For a website in portuguese what would you use? pt.domain.com, br.domain.com or domain.com.br

We are a company with a website in several languages, one of them is portuguese. Our market is 2 times bigger in Brazil than in Portugal, but obviously Brazil has more potential in the future. In domain.com we have our main site in English.
What would you use? pt.domain.com, br.domain.com or domain.com.br?
In the first case, it means just portuguese, in the second Brazil but it is not geolocalized, and in the third, you are almost ignoring Portugal users...
Duplicating content, doesn't seem to make sense... The content is basically international, so it is just the language that matters.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Go with the subdomain that is just targeted to Portuguese, the language. Use an HREFLANG tag to tell Google which pages are translations of an equivalent English page. This will allow you to get traffic from a number of countries that speak Portuguese. I am of course assuming that your content doesn't change other than the translation.
Don't geo-locate unless you mean to actually target a country. If you want to go after the Brazilian market with different content that is just for Brazilian citizens, then geo-locate. In that case you can use a ccTLD (those are only for geolocation), subdomain, or subfolder. That's up to you, but only when you are ready to actually geo-target your content.

I'd use subdomains for each, or even the TLD for each country if your name is available. Using .com.br is a bit more confusing (to me anyway). You can basically duplicate the content (translated) and tell Google what site serves what country with GWT or what language with "hreflang=..." https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en

Has any one seen negative SEO effects from using Google Translate API
We have a site currently in development that is using the Google Translate API and I am having a massive issue getting screaming frog to crawl and all of our non-native English speaking employees have read through the translated copy in their native language and the general consensus is it reads at a 5th grade level at best. My questions to the community is, has anyone implemented this API on a site and has it a) helped with gaining traffic from other languages/countires and b) has it hurt there site from an SEO standpoint.

How can I restrict the domains country by country?
Hello, I have Two Domains one is xyz.co.uk and other is xyz.com Now, my main target for .com is United States, and I don't want to open that .com domain in any other country especially India. The same with the .co.uk, I dont want to open .co.uk in other countries. I did it with some developer help but it gave me redirected error in Google Webmaster. Can anyone please guide me how I can do this the proper way ? And Other issues is, how can I implement ,if any user in United States open xyz.co.uk than he should redirect to the .com version. Thank you.

Spanish word as English domain name
hi anyine any issues with using Spanish, and other non English words, as domain names when trying to rank in Google uk. We launched a number of websites a while back but finding it hard to get much traction in Google uk. We are getting a reasonable number of impressions but cannot seem to get very high in the rankings. All the names are foreign words for their service. Our homeware website, for example, uses the basque word for furniture as its name. other than potential branding issues of having domains people might struggle to spell, is there any serp issues we would face with these names. thanks

E-Commerce - Country Domains versus 1 Domain?
Hi, Just wanted to get some feedback and opinions re the idea of segmenting our ecommerce site languages under various domains, like .jp for japanese, .it for italian etc... I do understand the geolocation benefits that this could bring us, but on the flipside, it would mean that we would need to grow our domain authority, link buiding per country domain, which is quite a bit of work. Has anyone ever considered or implemented this and any thoughts? Thanks!
