Google+ pages in search results
-
I have a simple question - I've read a lot about how google+ pages are ranking well in google searches, and that it's a good idea to incorporate google+ into your strategy.
So I was on a call this morning, talking to a client about this. The client brought up the fact that in all his google searches, he's NEVER seen a google plus page in the search results. I realized that I never have either. After some searches, I still don't see any google plus pages, at least not on page 1 or 2. Am I missing something? Needless to say, the client was not convinced about the value of having a G+ page, and I came away not sure what I was missing.
So how do people measure the impact of using google+ on their main website?

Thanks for the answers all. I learned a new term - 7 pack!
My client is not geographically sensitive, so the "Places" aspect doesn't matter to them. So it sounds like going the G+ route is a bit roundabout for getting traffic to the site. I'm a little stunned that after all the hype about G+, the responses here mirror what I'd been seeing.

I was doing a search today around a client and immediately saw several listings in the 7 pack that had no website but show with a G+ page. See attached screenshot.
Interestingly, it would appear Google is serving these up and I am guessing they have no Local/Places listing with a hidden address as this should get you deleted if you also have the G+. This link is from Blumenthal. I just find it funny that Google would serve up a G+ page for a Service area business given the 'rules' around same.

EGOL,
I did not think of this. Most excellent. This is what I love about MOZ, helps me get smarter daily.
Thanks,

I see plus.google.com pages in the SERPs every day.
If you are logged into a Google service that shares your plus.google.com login and search for a query that is relevant to a person in your circles, you might see that person's plus.google.com page on the first page of the SERPs.
For example, I have AJ Kohn in a circle. When I search for "news" I always see one of his google plus posts on the first page of the SERPs. I often see two people from my circles in the "news" SERPs - and other SERPs.
I have a site that targets some queries that are searched for millions of times per day. Some that you might search for now and then. Someone who I respect told me that I should post on these topics to google plus, then go to out to get as many people in my circles as possible because my google plus pages would show in the SERPs (for people in my circles) and pull lots of traffic. Up until a really really smart person told me that I should do this I have had nothing but disinterest in Google plus. Now I am thinking about doing it but have not moved on it because I don't like Google plus and the way that google is shoving it at people. Do you think I am stupid?

James,
Given we are doing a fairly broad SERP study, I can tell you I have not seen a G+ in the actual SERP organic but regularly see them in the 7 - pack (or whatever number shows). I have attached a screenshot on a random search where we have no clients. You will note each of these in the Local have a site url as well, but we do see them where there is NO site for the business and a G+ page shows. (And the page is rarely beyond 25% complete). In this screenshot you will see where someone is using their G+ as a landing page for PPC which IMO is not wise.
I am not seeing a G+ show as I do FB for similar businesses within the 10 organic listings.

G+ results have been seen in the results pages on page 1, though I can't say I've seen much of this. Google+ Profile PageRank: The Real AuthorRank? - SMX Advanced 2013
Moz and SearchMetrics have both reported that a URL's number of Google +1s is very highly correlated with search rankings. Matt Cutts has said Google doesn't use that as a ranking factor. (And correlation doesn't equal causation, as we know.)
I don't know of a good metric (though I'd be very interested in hearing if anyone does) but at least for now, I consider Google+ an important factor.

That is actually quite interesting. I tested it against a few brand names, and whilst facebook and twitter are ranked highly, I don't see the google+ pages.
However, I do like Google+ better for providing social signals \ interactivity via the Communities than facebook (although I don't have any metrics to say whether it is better or not).

Google + and SEO
Hello, A couple of competitors that I keep an eye on over the last couple of months have been really going for the Google + links and according to Opensite explorer they have over 200 social page metrics for Google +. I was just wondering if there has been an update that I have missed that gives follow links for Google + or does Google + affect Domain authority? And if so can I just use my own Google + account to create these social page metrics or does it depend on someone else sharing my posts? Many thanks

Google+ Cover Photo Question
I am trying to set up a Google+ profile for a client with multiple locations. My design team came up with nice cover photos for each page, using the dimensions that Google recommends (a 16:9 ratio, max. 2120x1192), but parts of my cover photo keep getting cut off. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and do you know what size we should REALLY be using? Thanks!

Google+ What is up with results?
If anybody has followed me, they know I am not a big advocate of Social Media, but I understand when you must adapt. So we broke down and made our Google+ Page https://plus.google.com/113910385846996409142 The problem is, when you go to Google and search "Google+ Columbia Engineered Rubber" You get what appears to be 2 place pages (our company is in 2 locations) and one page that looks like something somebody tried to make, could have somebody here, or some auto generating thing..don't know. But our real page that we made (linked above) doesn't appear at all. Does anybody know how to go about consolidating these pages to the one I made, its quite confusing for one company to have 3 pages showing in results none of which are correct. Thank you for you time, Don

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

Google+1 on site or on google+ for SEO?
Hi Have just read an inspiring post by Cyrus @ www.seomoz.org/blog/tips-to-use-google-for-seo But before I ask my existing social media contacts and email lists who have a Google account to +1 my site, what offers most benefit from a search visibility perspective? Should I ask my contacts to +1 my homepage (there is a +1 button on there) or Click on the +1 button on my businesses Google+ page and also ask them to join my circles? Hope this makes sense? Many Thanks

Google+ Business Profile, Places, Company, or Brand
We have a company with 2 offices, 1 on each coast. I was wondering what would be the best way to create a google+ business page for this to maximize them? We'd like to show a nationwide presence with 2 offices. Are there any downsides to picking any 1 of these? To clarify, there are 3 choices: local business, brand, and company. Which of the 3 would you recommend for a company with a nationwide presence and 2 offices?

Google+ What account to use for business?
Ok, we have been pretty dismissive of Google+ but having read more and more about how it is now directly influencing search results (currently in the USA) we are going to suggest setting up accounts for business. The question is, which Google Account should be used for the business page? In the nice presentational video on Google+ the example business is a nice local bike shop, which is simple right? Just use the small business owners account. But what about larger clients? Who in the org should have the business page on their account? What if that individual leaves? Can the page be separated from that account? Should you use maybe a Google Apps for Business account? But the issue with that is you will obviously have no one in any circles to share that page with. It all seems to be too closely tied to the personal side of Google+ Any help would be great. Thanks.

Google Plus for Website - Should the button be available on the homepage or just blog posts and other sticky content?
I am trying to understand if I should add the Google +1 button to my client's homepages in addition to "sticky" content. Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.
