USA appears in search snippet
-
Buongiorno from 14 degrees C very cloudy Wetherby UK,
When I type "Dartex Coatings" in Google i get a search snippet with USA in the description. See illustration: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/usa-indescription-2_zps42296e0a.jpg I cannot see where this is comming from on site http://www.dartexcoatings.com/ . HAving checked the souce code there is no reference to USA
So my question is please..."where is Google picking up USA from"?
Grazie,
David -
Yes that was the only line i could see with a src link to USA. Thank you

Well when I look at the Dartex coatings site I can see it has no meta description, which means you are forcing Google to create their own description for the page. The page does have an image with USA in the source:
src="/Dartex/media/Dartex-usa/General/dartex-home_1.jpg?width=940&height=300&ext=.jpg" title="New Care Range" />
This has lead Google to the association with the US site:
I would put in a proper description for the page and see if Google then picks that up.

Search by popular terms
This may be a simple question and possibly already answered to death - but I think i'm not asking or googling the right question so I haven't been able to get a good answer for it. Some websites have a feature at the bottom of their page where one can "search by popular terms", consisting of keywords linked to the search result of that term. Some websites do this: http://www.kogan.com/au/search-terms/ This must be obviously an optimisation technique, but how does this benefit ranking? Are there any down sides to this? Is this still a current good practice?

Infinite Scrolling in On-Page Search Results
We have a website being built that will effectively function like an e-commerce site. When customers search within the site, we will display the results (sometimes hundreds). We were thinking of implementing infinite scrolling, but with so many results which all function as links to product pages, would this look funny i.e. having too many onpage links? Would the links at the bottom pretty much just be ignored (which is fine) or would they bring disrepute to the results further toward the top of the page? Thanks!

Missing new pages in Search
Hi, We are on wordpress platform with category permalink structure site.com/category/categoryname. To pull in more SEO traffic, we created pages with structure site.com/categorynameand pulled in all the content from category pages to these new pages followed by applying no-follow on category pages within robots.txt. While it has been a week we applied these changes, we still see old category pages on google search with weird description ( A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt... ) How could we make search results to replace old categories links with the new pages? thanks in advance

Should I put on a black hat and abuse Rich Snippet ?
What do people think about abusing rich snippets? I have a competitor who has started using the author tag on product pages. I guess this will be giving them an unfair advantage in the SERP. I had considered doing the same but was a bit worried about getting banned in the future. Should we go down the same path and is it likely that Google will eventually hit us with a ban?

Search engine friendly URLs
I'm going to create some new content for my site, I'm trying to decide on the best search engine friendly format. Namely, is it ok to use a subdirectory or should I keep all content on root level? Is the SEO effect of either of these URLs superior to the other? domain.com/cooking/lasagna.php vs domain.com/lasagna.php
