Repeated alt tags
-
So my client red about SEO and now he needs alt tags for each image on website.
There is like 200 products and each product has 20 images, i know he will not write alt text for each and there isn't that much to write (them are selling bricks).
So can all 20 images with in product page contain the same alt tag (product name)?
Example: alt="red brick". Wount google ban website for that?
Mybe better way would be alt="red brick 1", alt="red brick 2" and so on.

Ok, for images that are the identical except for the angle, it would make sense to have the same alt text. However, for the small wall image, it would make more sense to have an alt tag of "small wall with red bricks" or something to that extent.
Like I said in my original post, the best results without having to write alt tags for each product would be to identify some key products that your client wants to focus on and write alt tags for those pages and automate the other pages.

Chris Wilson

All 20 images are actual red brick, just from different angle. In some, there are multiple red bricks, like small wall.
This is for client and i know that he will not write alt tags for each product nor will i.
Thanks for quick response, i will give all options to client. At the end it is he's decision to make.

Hi Roberts,
It is my understanding that Google will not "ban" a site for having duplicate alt text, but the purpose of the alt text is to describe each image. Alt text is used for accessibility as well as SEO, so those with visual impairments or those browsing without images enabled will be given the alt text instead of the image. It would not be a very good user experience to have an image label of "red bricks" appear 20 times on the same page, just as you wouldn't use the same image 20 times.
From a keyword perspective, by using accurate alt text to describe each image, you can actually open yourself up to some additional keywords whereas you would be restricted if they were all "red bricks" on a given page. If you are extremely limited on time, I would recommend going in to the top 10 or so product pages and coming up with high quality alt tags, then automating the rest some how.
Hope this helps!

Choosing Between Alt and Title IMG Tags?
I'm in a bit of a conundrum. My client uses BigCommerce for their E-Commerce shop. Basically you are only allowed to either have: 1) Same alt and title IMG tags. 2) Only alt IMG tags. 3) Only title IMG tags. So far I understand that the hierarchy is alt > file name > caption > title? In this case should I get rid of the title tag and use only alt? Or if I use both should I make the tag like an alt or title tag? It's not ideal but I need to come up with the best solution possible.

Optimizing title tags for a different town then the business is located in.
I'm looking for a little help, because I'm stuck. I was taught that when doing geo specific title tags you must include the city the business is located in. For example,Dentist North Springfield, even if there is nobody searching for dentists north boulder because everyone is searching for dentists boulder. As in they are considered one in the same. Can I optimize for Springfield or will I be penalized. Thanks

SEO & Mass-Renaming of Images: Image Name, Alt Text, etc.
We are currently in the process of changing all of our image names and their alt-tags to be descriptive of their content. For instance, changing image names from image0001.jpg to blue-cell-phone-cover. We have hundreds of images on our site, would it be best to rename all of the images and update their tags in one sweeping change or trickle the changes, uploading changed images every other day or so?

Alt text in combination with images from another source / url
I have a feed that is parsed on my website. All images do come form another source( and url that differts from my site). However I can change the alt text. I concerns hotel mages worldwide. In order to relate the images with the different language I want to add a small phrase "airport hotel" translated in the laguages that are present on my site Example alt text will be alt="airport hotel: Mercure Schiphol Terminal" or in German alt="Flughafen hotel: Mercure Schiphol Terminal" Will this have a positive effect on my SEO despite the url of the images are not related to my site?
