Local Showroom Tel Showing Up in SERP for Branded Term Search?
-
We encountered an issue: when user search for a branded term in UK on Google UK, one of the showroom got listed in SERP under site links as a location with Location icon and takes over a few lines - their address and phone number are displayed. This caused confusion for user as it's only one of our showrooms and we don't want to direct calls to the showroom this way. I'm suspecting somehow the localization factor came into play but not sure how to remove the showroom phone number from being displayed. Anyone has any insight/experience with this?
Thanks

My pleasure!

Hi Miriam, thank you so much for the source and insight, really appreciate that.

Hi Wei,
If you created a Google+ Local page for each of your showrooms, then Google will sometimes choose one of them to display along with the branded search. Honestly, this often seems arbitrary to me - in other words, it's hard to say why they are choosing one location over another. Of course, if localization is happening and Google is detecting that the user is closer to a showroom than, say, corporate headquarters, this would make perfect sense that they'd show the showroom, but this doesn't always appear to be the case. One must assume that, for some reason, the showroom is outranking the headquarters as an authoritative source.
Here is a thread from the Google and Your Business Help Forum citing an issue similar to what you are describing, Wei:

301 re-direct affect on SERPS
Hi Moz Community, please can I hit you with a scenario and get your thoughts? We have a client site - clientsite.com - with reasonable rankings for some of our client's target search terms/branded terms. We have built language specific subdomains - it.clientsite.com, de.clientsite.com - which have been manually translated into local languages. These subdomains have robots 'noindex' as we only want to drive traffic to clientsite.com. We've installed a geo location tool on clientsite.com that 301s visitors to the appropriate subdomain, so content is served in their local language. clientsite.com will be the 'catch all' for locations where sub domains have not yet been created. If Google crawls clientsite.com and is 301ed to a sub domain, will we lose SERPS? The sub domains will have the same content (99% the same content anyway) as clientsite.com, but in local languages. Cheers guys. Steve

Ranking for a brand term with "&" (and) in the name?
Hello Moz community. We have a company that rebranded their name to "Bar & Cocoa" with the URL https://barandcocoa.com/. It's been about 3 months, and the website has yet to show up organically anywhere within the first 50 results foer their brand terms. It seems that Google pretty much ignores the "&" or "and" word when typing in bar & cocoa, or bar and cocoa in search. You'd think with that with the exact domain name, it would at least move the needle a bit, but it has not helped. Even being in Denver, I'm getting results for a "Bar Cocoa" business located in Charlotte, NC, and the secondary pages that belong to that business, and then a bunch of other companies, products and irrelevant search results (like a parked domain)! Any suggestions or ideas, please help!

How does Google select what ends up in the snippet before SERPs?
We rank on page 1 for some keywords. Pulling SEMRush reports, we discovered we were placed #1, and we thought it was out of the norm, then determined it was due to the snippet preview Google created before SERPS. Anyway to know how we can consistently be favored by Google to get the snippet preview? I've read up a structured data markup on schema could help. https://developers.google.com/structured-data/ All input is appreciated.

Natural Fluctuation in Search Traffic
This is going to sound like a weird question... I'm curious to know whether there is a natural fluctuation in the actual number of searches being made online each week. It would be great to relate this to the performance of my own organic traffic each week. For example, if organic search traffic is down 10% week on week, is that because search in general is down 10%? Has anybody ever looking into this?

Branding and Page Titles - Please Help
Hello, I have a question about page titles. How important is branding here? I'm not referring to the company name, but rather the terminology that's used as "branding language" for a company. For example, let's say that the it would be a good idea to target the keyword "Restaurant Coupons" based on search volume and competition. However, our branding adheres to the language "Dining Offers". Is it considered a bad idea to use "Restaurant Coupons" in the page title? Or is that considered inconsistent branding? Basically, I'm just trying to figure out the correct balance between the SEO value of words and adhering to a company's branding. Any help is appreciated! Thanks,

Shoing strong for last 2 years for search terms NOW GONE! What happened?
Hi All! I have a 9-11~ my website www.popscrap.com has been showing strong (top 2) for about 2 years now for many of the search terms we are targeting (scrap software; scrap medal software; recycling software; etc.), and I just noticed today that we are nowhere. What do you suggest for troubleshooting this to find the cause and fix? Thanks!

SEOMoz and Facebook Graph Search
Are SEOMoz looking to integrate Facebook Graph Search (the web search section) into the product? At the moment we can measure and track rankings for Google, Bing/Yahoo, but not Facebook graph search. What are the general thoughts among the community? Do you think it will be adopted as a real search engine? I'm not overly concerned - I reckon it will take a lot to change people behaviour and have them moving away from the other search engines. It's throwing up some interesting results though in searches!

SERP Experience After You Resubmit Your Site to Google
Hello Everyone, We suddenly noticed that our keywords fell off the map and discovered that porn had been placed (via.htaccess redirects and masking) on our site. The porn links caused Google to drop us.We scrubbed our .htaccess file and asked Google to reindex our site 3 weeks ago.Does anyone have experience with reindexing? If so, how long were you down and did your keyword positions return eventually? Thanks,Bob
