Rel="noindex in a guest post
-
I'm guest posting on some sites and one of them placed my back link as follows:
I'm not sure what he's trying to achieve with the help of rel="noindex"? The first that jumps into my mind is that Google will index the post but skip my backlink. So, there's no sense in such a bakclink, ringht?

Hi Vince
Not sure what they're trying to achieve there. That code will be ignored. The "noindex" command is meant to be used within a tag, such as: . It's not acknowledged (by Google anyway) as a directive in an <a> tag.</a>
<a>Would presume they're trying to use it in the same way you can use a rel="nofollow" tag, but this won't have the same effect.
Puts a little bit of doubt in my mind as to the integrity and quality of the site going forward, but that's probably a bit harsh.
In short, the link will be behaving just like a normal one would, at least for Google.
Hope this helps.</a>

As such, I think the link will be followed normally (it would be as if someone added rel="banana" to the link).

It would appear to me that this is an error on their part and that it should in fact be "nofollow", as far as I am aware the "noindex" rule should only be applied to the tag.

Looking for a Proof Reader for a Moz Blog Post..
Hello everybody, After being here for 4 years I decided to write a post for YouMoz. That was about 3 months ago, and while I have read, re-read and proofed this thing a dozen times since, I know my own limits. I honestly want the post to be the best it can be, and while I stand by my article, I know my forte is not with writing. My article is about Beginning SEO and Where to Start, yes it maybe cliche but I find myself answering many of the questions on these QA boards that I address in this article. It would be nice to have a post I could point to when such situations arise. What I'm looking for is one or two persons with a strong knowledge of basic SEO, the ability to understand me (a cluttered mind), and strong grammar skills. Credit will be given to those who want it. The article is basically in what I consider a finished state, I just need to add a compendium video for one of the sections. I have done my own artwork, research, and document design. I just need a keen eye to snuff out those grammar errors I always miss and somebody to tell me if a section doesn't make sense. If you are interested please let me know here, or send me a PM. I would like to have something to review to make my selection so if you're not active here, a link to where you are would be beneficial. I know that might be asking a lot; help and you also get vetted, but the idea is I don't want to send out what I think is a very good article only to see it appear on another site. Thank you, Don P.S. To the Moz staff. Once I make my selection I will mark at least one response as Good so it don't keep annoying you as an un-answered question.

Staggered Blog Posting
Hi, My client has recently launched a new site - while the site was under development (A period of around 6 months) they build up a large amount of posts for their new blog. I have advised them against uploading all the posts in one go (ie from 0 to 100 in one day), as I'm sure this would be viewed with suspension by the search engines. My question is (and I'm not looking for a magic number here), what would be the best way to publish these blog posts, and what possible penalties could be triggered if we do it incorrectly. I do believe the content is unique and unpublished elsewhere. My suggestion to my client was to create a content calendar and set dates on which the various posts should be published. Further I suggested it is stagged or random, i.e. not every 2nd day - but vary it - so for example, 2 a day then a break for a day or two then one post, then the next day another 2 etc. Any thoughts from the Moz Community? Thanks, Jason

Do I really need a "Blog"?
Hello Moz community, I have a question about creating content on a new website that we just launched. Do we really need an area called a "Blog"? It's a financial website and the network admins have some security concerns about placing a blogging application such as Wordpress on the server because of PCI regulations. Can an area such as one called "Resources" where you list articles or posts be just as effective as a "blog"?

Rewrite of blog posts
I have to admit. Sometimes, when i write a blog post, I'm a bit lazy. I don't concentrate on the on page optimization portion of the blog post. I used to. But, as of late, I haven't. I was wondering if it was worth it to tweak my blog posts just a bit with a few keywords to improve my on page optimization. Or, do you think that it is too late and not worth the trouble.

Related posts Wordpress plugin
Hi, I was wondering what Wordpress plugin you are using to add related posts to your blog posts. I would need one that allows you to pick the related posts manually and doesn't break the on-page SEO. Thank you! George

Show all VS show excerpt in a blog post
I saw that you recently changed your blog from "show all" to "show an excerpt" and then "read more", could you explain me the reason? It´s not supossed to be better for the blog readers to see the full posts in the homepage?

How to best implement "metered model" on a site
Hi, I'm scratching my head over how to best implement the "metered model" on a site without users being able to game it all too easily. Has anybody in this QA forums implemented one before and is willing to share his/her best practises and findings? Currently I think raising the bar to force everybody to login is a bad idea + we would still need to open the site for google and other engines and can be tricked that way. Also this might lead to some penalty (cloaking)? Using cookies might not be enought as I think almost every Internet user these days knows that this might be the #1 place to look and they are deleted in a second. Counting based on a users IP-adress is also a bit critical as this is not accurate enough. Should we just use cookies and hope for the best?
