Guest writer for a magazine that is .pdf?
-
I was asked to be a guest contributor to an online bridal magazine, but not sure if there would be any linking value on it, as it is a pdf. Of course, there would be readers who might remember me, and come visit our site.
But for linking purposes, I don't see any seo benefit. But I am a newbie, so I might be missing something.
The magazine's are in a pdf format. Here is a link: http://bridesclub.com/wedding-magazines/Spotlight-NW-Fall-2013.pdf
You can also view it online but they redirect to www.issuu.com/ And the links are no followed.
Anyone have any advice?
Thank in advance!

Hi Karl,
The magazine is reputable, but don't think it goes out anywhere except to their online members. I like the idea you mentioned, but seems the tough part of content marketing is the outreach part.
Man there is such a wealth of knowledgeable folks here on moz. Awesome having experts like you help small guys like me. Thanks so much!

Hi Moosa,
I appreciate your input! I like the fact about quality traffic you mentioned. And the idea of "co-occurance". I just watched a webinar where Ian Lurie spoke about that. Great point.
Thanks for helping me.

Hello Federico,
You are right about the relationship building. I have good info based on 25 years experience in wedding bands/rings that could be useful to them. AND as you mentioned it would be a good reference for my writing!
Thanks for posting!

Thanks so much for your helping. Sorry for delay in replying, been buried. Your information helped me a lot, great viewpoint - which I agree with.

Hi Ron,
Whilst the pdf would give you minimal SEO benefit, if the magazine is reputable then you could use it as link bait. You could turn your post into a feature on your own website with things you learnt from doing the piece then reach out to blogger/website owners to link to your website.
As has been mentioned, it's not all about SEO and what value a link has. You have to think of the long term effect and what knock on effect guest authoring for the magazine gives you. See if there is anything else you can do with them onsite, that may be something that is worth asking.

Ron, honestly speaking SEO is more than just link and Google in order to give rankings use tons of different signals… I mean, if we talk about co occurrence you don’t not need a link, just a brand mention will work!
- Google do crawl and index links from PDF files as well so there just because it’s a PDF you should not write for them is not really a good idea!
- Not all no-follow links are waste… Wikipedia passes a no follow link but I have witnessed people’s ranking goes up after they get a link from Wikipedia.
- Traffic is coming to the website and you can use that traffic ad encourage them to link back to you (somehow!)
So no link that offers quality traffic is a waste! If you think you are getting valuable traffic from that website just keep writing for that magazine.
Hope this helps!

I will surely do it. It's not all about SEO, but building relationships. You may not get a link from them directly, but you could indirectly!
There's when guest blogging becomes a spam technique, when you only do it for the link. Change your mind, watch it from another perspective!
Example: I once wrote for a small SEO blog, it had almost no value, then when I applied for a much bigger site, and showed them my work, it was a "Can you please write for us?".

I took a look at the site and at the PDF, and I agree, there's not a ton of SEO value in writing a guest post for them. While Google can index PDF documents, and even discover links in them, if it's no-followed… not going to help much.
PDFs are not really amazing for reading on a computer. They are great for printing out. Print designers use them quite a bit, because they never quite figured out this "Web" thing where the page looks different to different users based on their computer and browser.
If there's a different reason to guest blog, it would be that your target audience (who wants to hire you) might be reading it and find you online. Or, you might want to do it to prevent a competitor from taking that top spot.
If you're on the fence, I'd check to see their readership, and if there's a way to have your information online and visible to their 1.2 million registered brides.
The US Wedding industry is a bit crazy -- people spend more than $25,000 on weddings.
Hope this helps...

Influencers, links, guest blogging, content what really works ?
Hi there, I am scratching my head lately and wondering what is the best in order to increase the ranking of my website... I am sure most of you will say a combination of everything but what else... I know that if an influencer (someone who has a important Klout score) writes about you and links to your website is helpful but what about having a link on a webpage like that : https://goo.gl/YYy5f9 is it still worth my time asking for link on those types of webpages (not that they aren't considered spam according to moz spam score) What about having a link in article on the USA today, what is more important, the fact that the usa today writes about you and has a high DA or the person who writes it ? I am in tourism industry and work with hotels is it worth my time contacting hotels I work with for links or see that a hotel page is not related to what I do which is bicycle tours, or am I wasting my time ? Finally, can't I outrank my competitors by just being more relevant in my content than them know I have a DA of already 38...without chasing links and a website that is 10 years old. Thank you,

Should I change my product infomation (PDF attatchments) into additional webpages with links ?
Hello All, On our eCommerce site some products have additional information which we currently show via a PDF link next to the product. I am thinking, is it more beneficial from an SEO point of view , If I was to put this additional pdf information to a webpage and have a link going from the product to this . From what I read, google cannot read contents of pdfs so if I was to have this as webpage via a link , then the product page would get more keywords and strength around it which would help improve it's seo etc. Just wondered if this is the best way forward or not ? thanks Peter

Content Marketing: Use of the words "guest post" in outreach email
Hello, I'm marketing a useful article in our niche, appealing to the humanitarian side of things and I always show I'm a reciprocator. Should my wording in my outreach email be: ...to write a guest post around this article: http://... Or should I just ask if they want help with content and go from there? In other words, should I always call it a guest post for maximum conversions? Thanks.

SEO Problem with PowerPoint to PDF?
Can anyone think of any reasons why it would be a bad idea to use PowerPoint to create documents and then convert them to PDFs? Do you think this could cause any crawling issues for Google?

Where would you advertise for a quality Guest Poster
I'm looking to find a high quality writer who understands SEO and the art of Guest Blogging/Posting on really good quality sites. Sites like Life Hacker etc... My Question is... Where would you advertise this job? I have tried People Per Hour in the past and never really found anyone and I find My Blog Guest (Guest Blog - Whatever it's called) to only really have low quality sites on there. What would you do? Cheers

To "Guest Blog" or "Ghost Blog"?
To "Guest Blog" or "Ghost Blog"? I've been wondering which would be better given G's "authorship" tracking program. "Onreact.Com" indirectly raised this issue in a recent blog post "Google Authorship Markup Disadvantages Everybody Ignores" as : "Google might dismiss your guest articles. Your great guest blogging campaign on dozens of other blogs might fail because Google will count the links all as one as the same author has written all the posts and linked to himself. So maybe the links won't count at all." Assuming all other things are equal, would you use "Guest Author" with G Authorship attribution (if allowed) or just ghost the article and include an in-text link without attribution to you as the author?

Guest Blogging Tips
I'm just getting started in guest blogging, and had an idea I wanted to run past the SEOmoz community. I've been told that when guest blogging, it's only worthwhile to post one guest post per domain (if your intention is purely backlinks, which mine is). But I was wondering if it might be more effective to try and place a series of 4 or 5 related posts, and try to get the blog owner to link from one to the other (Click here for Part II of this series). Wouldn't all that internal linking give the pages with my bio links on them that much more authority?

Guest Blogging Funny Problem!
Well it made me laugh and then cry a little after anyway. I have a keyword which is ranking page 1 position 7, I created a really nice article with content relevant to the keyword maybe around 600 words. I spent maybe half hour researching blogs on myblogguest looking for one that was based in the same country, had really good mozbar stats, even checked out how quickly other posts got indexed. I put 2 anchor text links in the article and managed to get the blogger to post the article. Next day checked the rankings and the post on the blog is now position 7, and has knocked me to position 8. I'm tempted to ask the blogger to change the title tag not to include my targeted keyword. Anyone got an advice on this?
