Ecommerce and Secure Checkout
-
We made changes several months ago trying to become compliant with Google Trusted Stores. This change effects our secure checkout. Here is an example website:www.froggysfog.com once you go to checkout:
https://www-froggysfog-com.app-hosted.com/c=gbY1kT9hZx1OJrCN07bHz3tTy/s=www.froggysfog.com/checkout.cgis
Once you have gone to checkout all the links are changed:
https://www-froggysfog-com.app-hosted.com/category/10-fluid.10-fog/I know I can remove the session ID in webmaster tools, but I'm not sure what else I should be doing to ensure that these links are not indexed. We have the robot.txt set up to not index anything in checkout or that is on secure: http://www.froggysfog.com/robots.txt However, due to the entire url change when on secure. I'm wonder if I need to set up in webmaster tools to exclude any url with app-hosted.com or if there is a better option.
thank you

http://www.froggysfog.com/robots.txt
Does not control a separate domain name. You actually have to modify robots.txt file inside the other host name
You should be able to request the URL is no index & no follow
That's should take care of all these issues.
dont block https or your sight will not be found.

You should also check with your e-commerce company if you can use your DNS to cname this www-froggysfog-com.app-hosted.com hostname to cart.froggysfog.com
Or something like checkout.froggysfog.com
I would definitely verify this Google and your hosting provider prior.
Hope this helps,
Thomas

This is a result of using an e-commerce system that changes the links to hosted links on their server to ensure that they are secure https
This is in your source code
you are using http://blog.zoovy.com
divstyle="position:absolute; top:15px; right:10px;"class="toplnk"><a< span="">href="http://www.froggysfog.com/contact_us.cgis"style="padding-right:8px;">Contact Us<a< span="">href="https://www-froggysfog-com.app-hosted.com/c=qr6twP9hai0RWUxaUaY16ovYS/s=www.froggysfog.com/customer/"style="padding-right:8px;">My Account<img< span="">src="/media/merchant/froggysfog/_ticket_2921314/ff_icn_cart-16x13.png"alt=""width="16"height="13"align="absmiddle"/><a< span="">href="http://www.froggysfog.com/cart.cgis">View Cart (0 Items)</a<></img<></a<></a<>
My best advice if you want to pass certification on the first try this change your structure to all HTTP S & have it hosted on FireHost there payment Island PCI 3 pass the certification every time first time. Every time they are the bests in PCI compliance and you will never have to worry about set up or auditing issues in the future.
Why?
http://www.firehost.com/company/certifications/pci
http://www.firehost.com/secure-cloud/compliant/pci
http://www.firehost.com/secure-cloud/compliant
all the best,
Thomas

Main Site and eCommerce Site URLs for SEO
My client currently has a main website on a url and an eCommerce site on a subdomain. The eCommerce site is currently not mobile friendly, has images that are too small and are problematic - and I believe it negates some of the SEO work we do for them. I had to turn off Google Shopping ads because the quality score was so low. That being said, they are rebuilding a shopping cart on a new platform that will be mobile friendly BUT the images are going to be tiny until they slowly replace images over several months. Would you keep the shopping cart on a subdomain, or make it part of the main website URL? Can it negatively impact the progress we have made on the main site SEO.

Discontinued Product on a Ecommerce site
To create a better customer experience, rather then remove discontinued product from a site, we remove many links from the page, and remove it from the navigation of the site, but we keep the url and show that the product can no longer be purchased. This keeps the links, keeps the content, and gives customers the opportunity to find other products we have. But I often wonder if we should allow this items to just 404 and be done with them. Here is an example. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-dyn-bm5a-list. Any advice?

To many links on page. Big or small issue for eCommerce
On my site I have around 3k pages and about 90 categories. Most of which have a sensible number of products but some have only a few products and some have loads. if I have say 40 links on the page ignoring the producand is it a big problem if I have more than 60 products on the page? Assuming a link limit per page of 100 user wise we have filters and sorts for thme to find what they breed without issue. But simply from an seo point of view how damaging would I be to have the 23 "to many links on page issues? Worth fixing by making two categories and splitting out products even tho it would hinder the user.

Should I add SSL certificate site-wide? Or just on Checkout?
I'm setting up my SSL certificate and my programmer said it's smart to just apply it to the entire site. I'm concerned about how this could affect my SEO work. I've heard as far as SEO is concerned, applying it to just the checkout pages is the best way to do it. What are your thoughts? What are potential problems?

Same product in Multiple categories ecommerce store, best way to avoid duplicate content?
Hello All, Im building a magento store, with around 500 products. One thing is that I am going to have some products in Multiple categories. Do you think the best solution is to remove any category name from the url structure or would this devalue SEO? Also would the use of canonical links remove any duplicate content issues if the category name was left in. So overall what would get better results No category name in URL (e.g.phonename-model1.html) V category name in url (e.g. phones/phonename-model1.html / videophones/phonename-model1.html +using canonical links Any feedback or views would be great

Internal Links on eCommerce sites
I have been working on an eCommerce site; www.pretavoir.co.uk over the past year. Improvements in SERPs have been good with many top three positions. However, there are other important keywords of similar difficulty which refuse to behave in a similar way.... The site is PR4 and has a homepage PA 52. The homepage includes links to internal brand pages eg Prada, Gucci etc. Q Would it be worthwhile creating footer anchor text with eaxct text eg Prada sunglasses, Gucci Sunglasses?? Thanks
