Losing traffic - What are we doing wrong ?
-
Hi, my ecommerce site has been losing organic traffic/ranks for the past 12 months. I don't have any active seo campaigns. after using link detox tool and submitting a disavow file for low quality links to google about 8 months ago, site has picked up some traffic may be about 10% but after few months it started to lose traffic again. there is no manual penalty on site. I would appreciate any and all suggestions at this point to help gain some traffic/traction. Anything that would point us in the right direction would be very helpful.
here is my url http://goo.gl/udynRR
thank you

On top of Dana's answer, it's worth looking here - http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change - to see if your traffic started dropping again after any particular updates.

You are very welcome Rick. Thanks for providing more details. Has your site experienced any other changes since the beginning of the year? I can see by looking at it in the free tools at http://ahrefs.com that you started the year with a lot of inbound links and many of those have been cleared out (most likely from Google algo) over the course of this year. Did you replatform the site, change URLs and/or change the architecture of the site since the beginning of the year?
Are you monitoring your Google Webmaster Tools account? There may be some clues there regarding potential site errors (503, 403 and 404 status codes) and duplicate content that could be getting in your own way.
Let me know. A thorough site audit would most likely get you some answers and give you some directions on where to focus your efforts to regain traffic.

Dear Dana,
Thank you for your reply. Basically the keyword phrase traffic is going down, our high ranking keywords are not ranking any longer, 2 or 3 phrase keywords have lost ranks one by one, dropped from 1st page positions to 2nd, 3rd and 4th page positions within this year. they were the main source of traffic and conversions for a long time (past 4 years) . they are still ranking on those 3rd and 4th pages but not getting any traffic through them anymore. We had quite a few of those high traffic / high volume keywords ranking top 10 positions and now we have only few left on top 10.
If you would please help us understand and guide us in the right direction on how to get those keywords and phrases ranking on top again and also rank for other keywords in our industry. We are actually looking for a professional help such as yourself who could work with us and help us recover our traffic.
Thank you

Hi Rick,
Have you identified which channels specifically are losing traffic, or is it everything equally across the board? The answer to that question would be crucial to evaluating things further. Can you let us know more details? The numbers don't have to be real, but perhaps percentages like direct traffic is down by 30% and referral traffic is down 20%, etc. Let me know and we can investigate deeper. Cheers,
Dana

Zemanta for Links and Traffic
Has anyone used Zemanta for their clients. Would appreciate feedback on their service. What got our attention was the sales guy using Rand's testimonial below in their email signature. _"I'm not just a fan, I'm a believer — Zemanta is a remarkable way to build great links." _

Any benefits to having Wikipedia links now they are 'no-followed' (apart from traffic and natural link prof.)
I see that Wikipedia outbound links are all no-followed, is there any benefit (aside from the traffic) for having links here now ? For example is their co-citation and co-occurance benefits. I know there is without the links since from seeing previous Moz content about this saying Google getting good at connecting brand/s and topic mentions on a page (without any links) so appreciate Wikipedia is still good for that sort of thing. And a no-followed link is obviously good for the potential traffic. But is there any additional SEO benefit to having a no followed link on a wikipedia entry/stub too ? (aside from its contribution to your no-followed links which in turn contribute to a natural looking link profile) Cheers Dan

Is a lot of inbound traffic coming from site a problem for SEO?
We have a site which is going to deliver content to a big news site and in return we will receive a lot of traffic from the news site. Estimates are that it will be about 50% of our daily traffic. Before this we have about 2000 daily visits, where 50% is from organic traffic. How will this affect our rankings? (It should be pretty obvious to Google that an increase like that in reffered traffic is bought - which I assume will ahve a negative impact on our organic rankings) What is the best tactic to use - regarding SEO - if (when) we proceed to deliver content/recieve traffic from that news site? (we have a lot of decent rankings on several branch keywords, and we don't want to risk those rankings. On the other hand - if we could improve our rankings from this deal - we would like inputs to that as well? Best regards, Chris

Site received penalty, Traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour
Dear all We received a penalty notice at webmaster tools 2 months ago, in that stated "your pages violate our quality guidelines" and "contain some inorganic links to your site". Ours is a Coupon website and tried to follow all quality guidelines given in webmaster central. Also we tried to identify and remove spam kind of links and still we are working on that. Suddenly from yesterday website traffic restricted to 3-4 visits/hour, but website main keyword SERPs are not changed much and still ranking at good positions. my question if any website is under manual penalty, it's traffic will be restricted by Google???. Every link we build manually and not gone for any paid links or reciprocal links. But the sites given some links as sitewide, example we tried to get a back link & submitted url at once only, but it was showing in webmaster Total links 468 and linked pages 1. Can any one please explain, how it can happen?. We are trying to remove these spam kind of links, but from directory owners response is a bit disappointing, kindly any one suggest that, will Google Disavow tool help in this regard and how much time it will take to nullify the links?. Kindly help us..Thanking you all in advance

Why would I lose 300 links in 19 days?
Hi, I have recently discovered a loss of 300 links in the space of the last 19 days. What would cause this? Is there a new algorithm in place that I am unaware of? I'm totally baffled, as the links should have increased, not decreased? Thanks,

Higher Traffic Numbers?
Recently we have been getting higher organic traffic number than usual? Some of them are keywords that I have not been working on? How is this possible? When Google gives you a bump is it gradually? Most of them long tail words. If our backlink/content building is slowly beginning to work would this explain it? I did submit my site to BOTW and Yahoo, not sure if this could also be why we are getting a boost? Thank You

How long does it typically take to see a boost in traffic after a strong increase in links?
Suppose you have had a great month of linkbuilding and significantly increased the number of linking domains (say by about 10%). How long does it typically take to see a noticeable uptick in traffic based on your experience?

Inbound links – does the traffic matter at all??
So we know that links from highly ranked websites, pages with high DA, PR etc, matter. What about the traffic on these links? Do Google and others look at the traffic on the links and factor that into the algorithm? What do people think about this? Just wondering about this as don’t see it talked about much….Thanks
