Losing traffic - What are we doing wrong ?
-
Hi, my ecommerce site has been losing organic traffic/ranks for the past 12 months. I don't have any active seo campaigns. after using link detox tool and submitting a disavow file for low quality links to google about 8 months ago, site has picked up some traffic may be about 10% but after few months it started to lose traffic again. there is no manual penalty on site. I would appreciate any and all suggestions at this point to help gain some traffic/traction. Anything that would point us in the right direction would be very helpful.
here is my url http://goo.gl/udynRR
thank you

On top of Dana's answer, it's worth looking here - http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change - to see if your traffic started dropping again after any particular updates.

You are very welcome Rick. Thanks for providing more details. Has your site experienced any other changes since the beginning of the year? I can see by looking at it in the free tools at http://ahrefs.com that you started the year with a lot of inbound links and many of those have been cleared out (most likely from Google algo) over the course of this year. Did you replatform the site, change URLs and/or change the architecture of the site since the beginning of the year?
Are you monitoring your Google Webmaster Tools account? There may be some clues there regarding potential site errors (503, 403 and 404 status codes) and duplicate content that could be getting in your own way.
Let me know. A thorough site audit would most likely get you some answers and give you some directions on where to focus your efforts to regain traffic.

Dear Dana,
Thank you for your reply. Basically the keyword phrase traffic is going down, our high ranking keywords are not ranking any longer, 2 or 3 phrase keywords have lost ranks one by one, dropped from 1st page positions to 2nd, 3rd and 4th page positions within this year. they were the main source of traffic and conversions for a long time (past 4 years) . they are still ranking on those 3rd and 4th pages but not getting any traffic through them anymore. We had quite a few of those high traffic / high volume keywords ranking top 10 positions and now we have only few left on top 10.
If you would please help us understand and guide us in the right direction on how to get those keywords and phrases ranking on top again and also rank for other keywords in our industry. We are actually looking for a professional help such as yourself who could work with us and help us recover our traffic.
Thank you

Hi Rick,
Have you identified which channels specifically are losing traffic, or is it everything equally across the board? The answer to that question would be crucial to evaluating things further. Can you let us know more details? The numbers don't have to be real, but perhaps percentages like direct traffic is down by 30% and referral traffic is down 20%, etc. Let me know and we can investigate deeper. Cheers,
Dana

SEO traffic + backlinks question
Let's say I want to write a guest post for a website that is relevant to my website. Should i guest post on a website with high traffic but the traffic country is not mine? (eg// My website sells products in Canada only, should i guest post on a high traffic site from India?) Or would it be better to find a lower traffic website to guest post on but their organic traffic comes from Canada? Thanks!

Does redirected traffic still contribute to SEO?
My company recently rebranded with a new website (and comparatively lower authority). We've built a bunch of backlinks for our old website, which now redirect to the new one, and I was wondering if these still contribute to SEO? Is there a difference in the SEO effect of a direct link versus a redirected one?

Why did I lose my rankings for a keyword "CRM" even after getting quality backlinks?
Initially my website is ranking on third page of Google.com for the keyword "CRM". So to improve rankings I got good number of quality backlinks by guest posting in various websites. But now my website is ranking on 6th page, which is a big concern for me. But for Google.in there was neither any improvement nor any fall in the ranking. I have following doubts in my mind 1. Does the sudden increase in backlinks (quality backlinks in the from of guest posts) effect rankings in a negative way? 2. Why did it effect on Google.com and not on Google.in? 3. What needs to be done on urgent basis to recover from this? Kindly help me with all your suggestions. Thanks

Is there enough national traffic to go after for this niche
Hello, For bobweikel.com my niche is hypnosis and weight loss. Most of the traffic is for local terms. Would you consider it useful to go after national traffic in an effort to gain phone clients (long distance) or do you think too many of the terms are going to be served up locally. The local traffic in my area for hypnosis, weight loss, and hypnosis & weight loss are real slow. Looking for strategies (including content strategies) to bring in national clients. Thanks.

Any benefits to having Wikipedia links now they are 'no-followed' (apart from traffic and natural link prof.)
I see that Wikipedia outbound links are all no-followed, is there any benefit (aside from the traffic) for having links here now ? For example is their co-citation and co-occurance benefits. I know there is without the links since from seeing previous Moz content about this saying Google getting good at connecting brand/s and topic mentions on a page (without any links) so appreciate Wikipedia is still good for that sort of thing. And a no-followed link is obviously good for the potential traffic. But is there any additional SEO benefit to having a no followed link on a wikipedia entry/stub too ? (aside from its contribution to your no-followed links which in turn contribute to a natural looking link profile) Cheers Dan

Losing the WWW?
My website is wildbirdfeeders.com however so far everywhere I link to it, I use www.wildbirdfeeders.com. There is a 301 set up to always redirect you so you always land at wildbirdfeeders.com Question. Is this okay to have this set up this way? Am I hurting myself? Also should I do link building using the url wildbirdfeeders.com or www.wildbirdfeeders.com? Thoughts? Thanks!

Inbound links – does the traffic matter at all??
So we know that links from highly ranked websites, pages with high DA, PR etc, matter. What about the traffic on these links? Do Google and others look at the traffic on the links and factor that into the algorithm? What do people think about this? Just wondering about this as don’t see it talked about much….Thanks
