What directories do you guys recommend to pay to be listed?
-
With so many in the web is hard to decide what directories are worth it... Anyone has suggestion?
Thanks!

Thank you to you both! The only reason why I am looking into directories is to get backlinks, I don't think people would be actually looking for me in them. So you guys don't recommend directories as part of backlinks strategy?
Thank you so much!

I like this article and would recommend your checking this out and follow when selecting directories because Google is very much strict when it coming to getting a link from directories (not all paid are good).
After doing all the quality checks, when choosing directories keep the users in mind, if you are paying any directory website to place your link, do you think that your targeted audience will visit the directory and find you? If yes, go for it otherwise just drop it!
Hope this helps!

Hi Elaine,
Here's an article to get you pointed in the right direction. Be careful with directories though, as I have a feeling google is going to get tougher and tougher on them as time goes on. http://moz.com/blog/web-directory-submission-danger

How important are directory submissions to my off-page SEO?
Hi Guys, One area of my link building that I carry out is looking for online directories and social bookmarking websites to submit my website to. I do this in order to gain some backlinks to my website. What I want to know is are they really worth my time, and if so, which types would you say are the most important? I have obviously been through many directory lists, both on SEOmoz and on other websites, and also performed various searches to find relevant directories to my website. I just feel that posting up a link that lies deep in a directory online that, more often than not, have very low PA and lots of outbound links will offer very little in terms of SEO. If anything, this could really bring down the quality of my links and be detrimental to my website, right? This is a subject that I have been thinking about for a while and especially with the recent algorithm update from Google and the attack on many web directories that are, lets say, 'not playing by the rules', I'm worried that this will have a negative impact for my website. Let me know your thoughts guys and if you have any tips on how to get higher quality links from these kind of submission then I'm all ears! Matt.

Listings, paid profiles and directories
Hi, In the industry I am working in (education), we do have a lot of portals offering paid listings (for example profiles featuring a school, the courses you offer, sometimes with reviews etc). Almost all big competitors and big names normally do have these kind of listings. Besides from having to decide if these sites really bring the relevant conversions, I am wondering about their impact on SEO. An example for an offer:

Our Top Picks listing is a 40 word listing and logo we put on any 30 pages of our web site, example.com for 12 months, for $595 US. You can choose the pages you want, or we can put you on all our [category] pages, or certain continents/countries you want to target. Now, I am wondering: Do I have to worry about my linking profile ? (All of sudden a bunch of links with the exact same anchortext and content embedding to our site?) Or can I just decide to go with a paid listing based on the link value the page offers me? Looking forward to reading what you think!

Suspicious Link Directory
I found a link directory with good PageRank and MozRank. The page I would be featured on has good page authority of about 41. Their editorial guidelines appear sound. However, I just discovered that they have a family of directories (about 7-8) that all look very similar in site appearance. I suspect that they are all hosted on the same servers and run by the same company. Would this family of directories be at risk of being flagged by Google as a link network and have all their links devalued? Thanks Mozzers!
