Huge increase in low quality links - how to get rid of them?
-
Hi! Can any one help me!
I have just discovered an explosion in back links to our site! we have gone from a few hundred to several thousands. They are not from sites I recognise, many are foreign language sites. How do I get rid of them. I'm so worried that we will get penalized by Google.
I would appreciate any help any one can offer on this
many thanks
Joanna

Thanks every one, I will see how I get on

Chris has mentioned the simplest but the most effective way
- Make a list of domains you want to get rid of (Txt File: Something like this: http://screencast.com/t/mDbkqYtjula)
- Add your website in Google Webmaster Tools if not done yet: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
- Upload that list in Google Disavow Tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main
- It will take 4 to 6 weeks and Google will disavow these links (Disavow never mean that Google will delete these links, Google will just not refer power of these links to your website)
I hope, this will help!

Sounds like negative seo. Get a list of links and email the webmaster to take them down (document in Google docs to help prove that your adhering to Google Webmaster Guidelines) and disavow.

Joanna,
Simply use your disavow tool in Google Webmaster tools and disavow the spam domains (vs. individual pages) that are linking to you. You shouldn't have to worry about them after that.

Should You Get Link back from Customers
In the SEO guide on Moz, it states as one of the link building strategies: Get your customers to link to you If you have partners you work with regularly, or loyal customers that love your brand, you can capitalize on this by sending out partnership badges—graphic icons that link back to your site (like Google often does with their AdWords certification program). Just as you'd get customers wearing your t-shirts or sporting your bumper stickers, links are the best way to accomplish the same feat on the web. We design websites for churches and non-profits, and put a link back to our site as the designer. We recently have been told this is spammy and not a good idea. However, from what MOZ says, it sounds like they are promoting you do this. Please comment. Thanks.

When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building, is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it?
When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building (i.e. pushing out content that my client has created), is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it? Or should I create a landing page with the whitepaper included on it? I’m not sure if the client will be ok with this b/c I know they use the whitepaper for sales purposes to gain leads. For example, my pitch email would include a line such as this, "the whitepaper can be found at LINK and I'd love if you could share it with your readers." I think it may be weird/a little wrong to ask a webmaster to include a link on his site to a landing page with a form to get the whitepaper. Does this make sense? What have others done with whitepapers as Push Content for link building?

How much time does it take for the links to be forwarded to redirected link?
Hi there,
Link Building | | MoeezLodhi
Thank you for taking out some time for this question; I have changed the permalinks last week for a website.. I forgot to redirect old permalinks to the new one.. So I did 301 redirection, it has been 4-5 days since I did that but the links are not forwarded to the new Permalink so far.
How much time should I wait for the links to be forwarded to the new permalinks? Secondly, I am sure I have done the 301 redirect correctly, as when I go to the old url / permalink it directs me to the new permalink. So I am sure 301 is done correctly. Do I need to submit the sitemap again?0 -
External links - link to third party sites
Greetings! Actually, got an doubt on linking to external site. The thing, i have working for roof marketers site. They have covered roof products. Each of the products have a page along with major keyword. Actually, i do link from other pages[internally]. Meaning,if i see any main keywords in different page then will link that to corresponding page/product[internally].This is what i am doing to get page rank. Now, my doubt. Some of the pages are having link with main keywords which directs to the third party site those who are really producing the products. But, i remove the third party-link which has with main keywords. Since already the site/my client site having pages for that main keywords. But client really want that link. meaning the links which they have given to direct to third party[product producer] site. So what should i do at this case. Can i just past RAW link like [http://www.thirdpartysite.com] or what do i do. But my client wants that link to be in content area. Hope you would understand my long explanation and case Please help us. Thank you

Pursuing Links on Sites You Have a Link From
Is it a bad idea to spend resources to get a second link from a site that already links to you? It seems like the marginal value of each additional link is much smaller than the first link.

How do I get my unindexed links indexed?
I've been building links consistently to our site for the past three months. At first, some of my tactics were rather shady. As I learned more, I started to get more quality links. I have noticed that a very small percentage of my active links are currently indexed. Should I do something to get these older links indexed or just keep building new links? Will building shady links to unindexed links get them indexed? Will this get my site penalized? Does pinging help? What resource should I use to ping these unindexed links? Forgive me if this is a really basic question. I'm still learning the ropes.
