When rebuilding a site, when should you start building links?
-
We are in the process of completely rebuilding our web presence. We went ahead and started a blog using Hubspot while we are redesigning everything and writing all new content. The new site will be live in early August. The question is when do we start making a big push with Linkbuilding? I am currently trying to promote the Blog but I'm wondering about linkbuilding for the rest of the site? Do we wait until the new site is live or do we start doing it now? The new site will be completely different from the old site?

What are your thoughts one paying an SEO to do linkbuilding?
My thoughts on linkbuilding are different from those of most SEOs. I attack rankings with content and let linkbuilding happen naturally. That makes the links happen slowly, but nearly 100% of my time goes into producing permanent equity for the website.... and instead of paying a linkbuilder I would rather pay an author.
but sites that have a high domain authority will have to be manually done by someone in house.
I agree. Although we generally do not do link building we occasionally request a link from an authoritative website. I make all of those contacts myself. If they will be linking to us based upon the merits of our content then someone who can speak to the content will be the most qualified for making the request. The more technical in nature your content becomes the more important it is to have content area expertise making the contact.

Well the content and the UI will change dramatically for the better. The site looks ok now but it doesn't engage visitors. The Blog still has the old UI but we're posting new content to the blog everyday and we'll put the new skin on the blog when the main site goes live. So if I am reading your response correctly I could probably continue with building links related to the blog but should hold off on links to the main site.
One follow up question. What are your thoughts one paying an SEO to do linkbuilding? It seems that paid linking building is probably ok for getting a lot of links to lower ranking sites but sites that have a high domain authority will have to be manually done by someone in house.

The answer depends upon how much your content is changing and what type of links your are "building".
If you are getting links into articles that will be on the same URL before and after the rebuild then getting links into them now is fine.
If your content is going to move to new URLs then getting links after the move will have best results.
If your content is going to change significantly then webmasters who link to you now might not like what you have up later and it might be easier to get them to link to improved content.
As for methods of getting the links... if you are buying them or getting them from sites who have some partnership with you then you don't have to worry about editorial decisions... however, if these links are to be given on the basis of merit then you should wait until you have super design and best possible content before you spend time on linkbuilding.
See... the question is complicated.

I am looking for a software to keep track of the back links or link building
Hi Guys, I am very new hear. I just joined. I have a few websites that I need to manage. I am looking for a software that will allow me to manually add the links that I have been able to acquire. It would also be a bonus if it could search for the links to my site and to see if its still active. Because I have a freelancer working a few hours a week on link building and I need to keep track of the links. I am looking for something simple and good. Any suggestions? By the way, I used Raven Tools many years ago, and it had this feature. But since joining Moz, I don't want to be paying for 2 subscriptions. And I don't know if Raven still has this feature. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Ryan

Frequency of Manual Link Building Monitoring
Hey Moz! We're in the middle of performing a link remediation campaign, and had a question regarding new links. We do not acquire any links through methods that break Google's guidelines, but we recently discovered a suspicious link to our website that happened organically. What is the recommended frequency for manually checking all newly discovered links to our website in order to catch/remove toxic links? Monthly? Bi-monthly? Yearly? Thanks in advance!

Broken Incoming Links from External Site - What to do?
Our Google Webmaster 'page not found' reports consistently show two Chinese websites that have approximately 50 broken links each to non-existent pages on our website. One site is a PR5, the other a PR1. Two of our Chinese employees have contacted the site owners (even talking with them over the phone) to discuss the errors, where the broken links live on their sites, and how to fix them. They have contacted the site owners three times in the past three months, but still the broken links have not be fixed. What do you recommend we do?

Hi guys, I have just done a lot of link buillding and I thought I am just going to link build and I am not going to go after RELVANT links. I have property/real esate website and I have been any kind of link builidng and I have noteced some good increases in rankings.. So my questions is; Does it really matter if the link is relvant to property or real estate if I have got ranking increases? Or will it later harm my site?? Thanks Gareth

Where do I find the best link building company?
Hi there, I'm trying to find an ethical, honest, link building company. We don't want links on shady forums, or comment spam, or any of that black hat nastyness!. I want links, on proper sites, and I'm prepared to pay for them accordingly. We're also more than happy to write/have written/ quality content that can be linked to. (We already pump out about 15 x 400+ word, optimised blogs weeks) We spend hours on the various social media sites also. So I think the only thing we're really missing now, is decent backlinks and possibly some more long tail keywords... Over to you guys. Paul.

Why does Open Site Explorer list Twitter and Facebook links for one of my sites and not others
One of my sites has the nofollow backlink listed for Facebook and Twitter while 2 other sites do not. All 3 sites have had accounts for over a year. Does the amount of interactivity with the social media profiles have to do with it? I know it is a nofollow link but I was just curious as those profiles might help with the brand signal etc.
