Looking to create a Press Release - Any decent sites out there?
-
Hey guys,
I'm wondering whether you could point me in the right direction of a reputable PR site to use?
I realise that many of these sites have been devalued over recent years but I wanted to produce something for a client after they struck-up a fairly notable connection with another company in their industry.
Or should I just avoid PR sites altogether?
Oh, and I'd prefer them to be free if possible

There are two ways to go about this project.
1. Send out a press release and do no further work. This, I assume, means you just want the press release duplicated, syndicated, and just basically reproduced as you wrote it for the purpose of getting links only. That's all sending out a press release will do without a good person with good contacts to follow up with key journalists. There are no more "major" PR news wires that are not having their link equity stripped, due to the fact that they are paid services. Any others that might be free would be smaller scale. I am sorry to say I know of no such places. But once Google/Bing find them, I am sure their ability to pass link equity will diminish as well. That update was not about the newswire services, but about press release syndication. If you just want your press release published, it will do nothing for the company. Press releases are not read, stories are read. There will be no link equity, Google is removing it from any syndicated press releases.
If this is really the route you want to go down, just avoid press release sites altogether like you mentioned before.
2. Now, if you mean to get coverage for the company on this story, which is what you should be hoping for, a story, not the publication of the press release, then yes, you will need a PR person. You might not need someone who identifies themselves as that, but you need someone that can talk with journalists, pick out people who might be interested in the story, and talk to them about covering the story, This is the right way to do it and what will produce the most benefit. The only benefit of a press release at this moment in time.
I hope that clears up what I mean.

I'd need to hire a "good PR person" to get a press release out? Seems a bit extreme.
I can write the PR in co-operation with the client. What I'm looking for is somewhere to place/promote it.

What are your goals in finding a "PR site"? To get a press release written? Released to a wider market?
I am assuming your goal is more centered around getting coverage over this new partnership. If that's it, I am sorry to say that doing that will not be free, and will not come from posting a press release to a site.
You need to find and hire a good PR person or company that specializes in your industry.

Is it feasible to try to compete with an established site with a fresh domain any time soon?
Currently I'm looking at a competitor who owns a site with the following metrics: Domain Authority - 39 /100

Page Authority - 49 /100
Spam Score: 1 /17
93 Root Domains

Facebook - 431 Shares, 17 Likes I'm thinking it would take 12 months+ to become a viable competitor, but thats a complete guess. What are peoples thoughts on undertaking something like this?0 -
Press Mention with No Link
Hey guys, I have a client who got a nice little mention recently in her local news online, but the news site (like many I notice) does not link any content in their articles. Anyone have a creative idea for leveraging this type of mention? She is an attorney and the article mentioned her as the defense attorney on the case. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Redesigning a Site - What Optimizations are "Must Haves"?
I'm psyched - a client has just approved a complete redesign of their site! Feel like a have a little bag of gold in my hand, and want to spend it wisely. My question to you, fellow Mozzers, is what elements would you make sure to include a site to make it as optimized as possible? A few details about the site: 1. It is an informational site, designed to generate leads for a medical product. No products for sale, no e-commerce functionality needed. 2. The site has approximately 250 pages. Last site update was in 2009. 3. Videos are an important part of their marketing strategy. In addition to shortening their URL structure (some URLs have 6-7 folders, ugh), I plan to utilize schemas and incorporate mobile responsive design. What other areas would you prioritize for optimization? Thanks, Allie

Drop In Rankings / Traffic... Can you find any technical issues with my site?
I haven't spammed the engines, if anything I haven't done enough link building. So let me start here: I split my old domain www.STbands.com into two separate domains - www.Suddora.com and www.CustomOnIt.com . The main site now goes to Custom On It and each page directly 301 as it was relevant. I knew there was going to be a little blow back... The first month went fairly well but last week we noticed a dip in organic search traffic and sure enough some of our main keywords are now suffering. I am wondering if this is because we haven't been building enough links to the new domains or if our new eCommerce CMS (magento enterprise) has technical SEO issues that is giving Google trouble. Nothing on GWT looks terribly wrong, should i be searching for something specific? Anything helps at this point, we are in dire need of some direction on what could be wrong. Any suggestions?

Do cuss words on social media sites affect ranking?
This is a hard one, I'm sure. In regards to search, I've read that Facebook pays close attention to verbs and that Google takes into account related words close to anchor text and search terms. Now I have the unique opportunity to work as the internet sales and marketing consultant for a company in serious need of brand reputation repair. The company has experienced a terrible fallout from a recent product recall. Unfortunately in this case, the company site has really strong reach, which means that our blog posts, product descriptions, and twitter comments can be found copied on hundreds of websites hours after they are posted. The most recent incident has associated our brand name with words like cheaters, scam, phoney, copycat, and other words that will certainly get filtered here. All my attempts to assure unconditional refunds and offer phone support get labeled as a desperate attempt to save the brand. No doubt, the company has issues but will surely overcome them in time. SEO Question: Should I close the Facebook page and set strong filters on a new page to delete the onslaught of negative comments or should we spend the time to clean up the current page? This is a difficult decision, as I know many companies like Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Rackspace actually look at Facebook pages to qualify business leads (no fans, go home). Damage control suggestions also welcome, but the crux of this issue here is how our brand name and product names will be associated with cuss words or negative terms and how this will affect our ranking in SERPs.

New Social Media Site + META Tags for User Profiles
I'm currently in the process of building a social media site and was deciding whether or not to add META descriptions/keywords for individual user profiles. After reviewing Facebook, I noticed that in the META Description field, user profile pages just inherited the values for Facebook (there were no META keywords); and, when I reviewed LinkedIn, there was no META description/keywords at all. After this investigation, I figured it might be a question best addressed to the SEO community. With that, what do you guys think? If you were building a social media site, would you have META description + META keywords for each user's profile? If so, what would be the best way to optimize the individual profiles so they rank highly within the search engines?
