We can't figure out why competitors have better position(s) in Google
-
We are using MOZ analytics for some days now, and it really helps us with important information about our rankings.
I hope you guys can help us out with the following particular case;In google.nl (dutch) we rank position #18 with the following searchterm 'sphinx 345' one of our competitors rank position #3.
We used the MOZ On Page Grade tool to find out some details about the two pages:
Our page #18: http://goo.gl/cTsbmI
Competitor page #3: http://goo.gl/qk21sMOur page hits an A and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 52
The competitors page hits an A too and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 45About the link structure; for our page there is no link data found in Open Site Explorer. The url exists about a year and a half now.
I'm also very sure we have many internal links to this url.
Does Google and other crawlers have a hard time to crawl our site?(it's a Magento site, our competitors do have custom-made e-commerce systems, maybe that has something to do with it?)As i were saying;we can't figure this out. I hope you guys can help to get us any further.
Regards,
Wilco

hi Oleg,
We fixed it. We edited the textblock and added some prominent links. Now we wait for G;)
Also we will continue to edit other page the same way. -
We had some issues to edit these textblocks above the brandpages, but i just fixed this problem and we will start to rewrite some of those text and add some popular/important links to these textblocks asap. Thnx!
-
On http://www.badkamerxxl.nl/f/merk-sphinx/, in the top paragraph.. maybe mention the 345 series and link to it? That would be a strong prominent link.
You'll need to give G some time to reindex structure/links and adjust rankings.
-
On our home/root domain we already have links from brand logo's to the most popular brand pages.
We just fixed our canonical problem as you can see on this page: (other pages are still in page cache, they will get primed this night)
http://goo.gl/d4f2OQAlso fixed alternate rel's and prev/next in head meta.
We also reduced the amount of filters on the brand pages:
http://goo.gl/DXIZAw which should increase the link authority. We already had ALT tags on the product images on page(s) mentioned above.
Maybe you guys have more tips/tricks for better rankings?
-
Hi again Wilco, as Olleg accurately says you must link from authoritative pages, also doubt about this link which you mention as they are very diluted and behind a tab, actually opensite doesn’t detect it nor majestic Seo. NO LINKS AT ALL....
Start linking as Olleg proposes from your root domain as featured article or promote it, or blog on it, put images with links and alts... construct a strong internal link structure and you should see immediate results. Let us know how this works and good luck!!
Cheers

Google considers link location for link authority (e.g. header links get more weight than footer/sidebar links). Maybe try adding a "Featured" sidebar widget above your filters and link to your hottest selling sections (would prob improve conversions too )
-
i think you click the first link; which is the 345XS serie, you should scroll down and click the Serie 345 link. (see attached image)
-
Doing what you mention I arrive to another url
http://www.badkamerxxl.nl/f/merk-sphinx/serie-345_xs/
which is not the one you are asking for...
-
Hello Claudio,
We always doubted the internal link structure.
We do have internal links to that particular page on these pages, two examples:http://goo.gl/SRTtn8
Click on second tab 'Specificaties' and look under the specs table.
Maybe the tabs is our problem? Does google have problem with content/links in tabs?http://goo.gl/arxcR5
On the left side you see a 'Serie' filter (checked attached image)
This filter is also in a css div, can google have problems with this also? -
So there are a lot more links on your sphinx page than your competitors so a lot less link authority flows to it (you have way more filters).
As Claudio mentioned, you should get more direct links to that page from your site... "featured products" on your homepage, link from a post in your blog, mention it on category pages (i.e. alle douche).
In addition, you should add rel="prev/next" on pages that have pagination.
-
Hello Oleg,
Thanks for your response. We will fix the canonical problem asap, this is important.
About your first question;
There are many ways to get to that page, for example you can get there by homepage, there are links in the footer. (check attached image)
Once you are on Sphinx page, you can select the Serie 345 link on the left navigation. -
Hi Wilco
Having a quick look I believe you have hit the nail about internal links, I believe you are lacking on those, check if you are linked with do follow links from pages inside your domain that transmits some authority from your root domain and other authoritative sections.
Your competitor has 32 internal links from his own domain, you have none...
In a quick glance I believe that’s your problem and it should quickly solved, maybe you´ll be touching your competitors back in a short time...
Let us know how you manage with this and your results when making a correct internat link building.
Cheers from a very rarely rainy day in southern spain.

On your competitor's site, to reach that page I...
http://www.badkamerconcurrent.nl/ > Click "Sphinx" link on bottom > Click '345' in left navigation
How do I get to that page on your site?
In addition, that page has the following tag: rel="canonical" href="" /> [you should either remove it or use the correct url]

Google's ability to crawl AJAX rendered content
I would like to make a change to the way our main navigation is currently rendered on our e-commerce site. Currently, all of the content that appears when you click a navigation category is rendering on page load. This is currently a large portion of every page visit’s bandwidth and even the images are downloaded even if a user doesn’t choose to use the navigation. I’d like to change it so the content appears and is downloaded only IF the user clicks on it, I'm planning on using AJAX. As that is the case it wouldn’t not be automatically on the site(which may or may not mean Google would crawl it). As we already provide a sitemap.xml for Google I want to make sure this change would not adversely affect our SEO. As of October this year the Webmaster AJAX crawling doc. suggestions has been depreciated. While the new version does say that its crawlers are smart enough to render AJAX content, something I've tested, I'm not sure if that only applies to content injected on page load as opposed to in click like I'm planning to do.

Why are my URL's changing
My rankings suddenly dropped and when trying to understand why I realized that nearly all images in Google's cached version of my site were missing. In the actual site they appear but in the cached version they don't. I noticed that most of the images had a ?6b5830 at the end of the URL and these were the images that were not showing. I am hoping that I found the reason for the drop in rankings. Maybe since Google cannot see a lot of the content it decided not to rank it as well (particularly since it seems to happen on thousands of pages). This is a cached version of my site I am using the following plugins that might be causing it: Yoasts SEO plugin, W3 total cache. Does anyone know what is causing ?6b5830 to be added to the end of most of my URL's? Could this be the reason for the ranking drop? Thanks in advance!

How to remove entire directory off Google's Cache
The old version of Webmaster tools used to allow you to select whether to remove a single page from index or an entire directory.

No Google cached snapshot image... 'Text-only version' working.
We are having an issue with Googles cached image snapshops... Here is an example: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:IyvADsGi10gJ:shop.deliaonline.com/store/home-and-garden/kitchen/morphy-richards-48781-cooking/ean/5011832030948+&cd=308&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk I wondered if anyone knows or can see the cause of this problem? Thanks

How can I tell Google, that a page has not changed?
Hello, we have a website with many thousands of pages. Some of them change frequently, some never. Our problem is, that googlebot is generating way too much traffic. Half of our page views are generated by googlebot. We would like to tell googlebot, to stop crawling pages that never change. This one for instance: http://www.prinz.de/party/partybilder/bilder-party-pics,412598,9545978-1,VnPartypics.html As you can see, there is almost no content on the page and the picture will never change. So I am wondering, if it makes sense to tell google that there is no need to come back. The following header fields might be relevant. Currently our webserver answers with the following headers: Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0, public

Pragma: no-cache
Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Does Google honor these fields? Should we remove no-cache, must-revalidate, pragma: no-cache and set expires e.g. to 30 days in the future? I also read, that a webpage that has not changed, should answer with 304 instead of 200. Does it make sense to implement that? Unfortunatly that would be quite hard for us. Maybe Google would also spend more time then on pages that actually changed, instead of wasting it on unchanged pages. Do you have any other suggestions, how we can reduce the traffic of google bot on unrelevant pages? Thanks for your help Cord0 -
Just relaunched a website - why did it fall in Google's SERPs?
I work for a marketing agency that just redesigned, rewrote and relaunched a client's website. They used to rank #4 on Google for the company's name (which is a fairly common one, for what it's worth). Now they're at #10 and want to know why. I'd like to explain to them what happened but don't know myself. Can someone explain it to me? And can I tell them if/when their ranking might go back up? In case this matters, I can tell you that it looks like Google hasn't yet crawled the new site. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Title Tag won't update
The Home page Title Tag on my Wordpress CMS Website doesn't update. It has the Thesis Theme and All in One SEO plugin. I've updated it exactly the same on the Home page, for SEO plugin, and in the Thesis Theme - but still it displays the old one.. The site was last cached about a week ago - 3X since I've been attempting to change it. The other page's Title Tags update instantly when updated, but not the Home page. I've been digging for a solution and can't seem to find an answer. What could be the problem? (www.austinfitnessgyms.com -It should be: Austin Gym | Kickboxing in Austin | Impact MMA Fitness)
