Local SEO: How many consistent citations needed to rank
-
Hello,
Can you guys analyze this site and see how many (quality, consistent) citations they'll need to rank 1st (in local results) for the two following local terms:
weight loss salt lake city
hypnosis salt lake city
website:
The Brain Trainer LLC
Thank you

Hi Bob,
If there's NAP consistency issues that you've discovered, they are almost certainly harming the business' ability to rank well locally. If the client has a very small budget, perhaps the best thing to do would be to offer her an hour or two of consulting to teach her how to find citations and correct them on her own. If a business owner doesn't have budget, they have to be able to invest time if they want to have some ability to compete, right? So, offering to train her to discover and correct her citations wouldn't require much of your consulting time and would really empower her to take control of her presence on the web. That would be my thinking on this.

Thanks Mariam,
I didn't know you'd have to do a full analysis to give me a number. Sorry about that. As I continued to look at her citations, they're all over the map - 2 addresses, 2 business names, 1 phone number.
We haven't started the on-site optimization. I don't know if I can help her on her budget. What do you do when someone has a low budget and has citations all over the map? I don't know how to quote her, or if it would be worth it. I was not planning on charging her a lot since I'm still learning about local SEO.
Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Bob,
Within the space of the forum, I can't offer to do a full analysis of all of your client's competitors, which is what you'd need to do in order to begin getting a picture of the competitiveness of the citation building going on in her city and industry. It can be good to do this type of research for your clients, but I don't really think you can hit on an exact number, because the situation isn't static. More importantly, perhaps, remember that number of citations does not equal where a business ranks. It's only part of the picture.
I took a quick look at the website you've linked to and it does not seem very well optimized for Local SEO - and this is such a BIG part of the ranking picture.
So, my advice here is to use a tool like GetListed.org to be sure your client's core basic citations are built in the 10-20 basic places. Then, look at articles like this one, http://www.leanmarketing.ca/lean-top-50-best-local-citation-sources-in-the-usa/, for additional citation building ideas. Look at the competitors' citation profiles to see if there are additional opportunities you've missed. And, don't forget to look for hyperlocal sites and professional sites that will not be listed on these top 50, top 100-type articles because they are too niche-focused.
But be sure you're covering your other bases, as well, including great on-page local optimization, review acquisition, content development, social, etc. Local rankings stem from a variety of factors and you've got to be on top of them all. Hope this helps.

How do I rank inside the knowledge panel in the "people also search for" section?
Hello fellow Mozzers, In Google's knowledge panel there is a section at the bottom that says "people also search for" and a list of competitors is displayed. I'm hoping to get some information I can use to get my client listed there on top of the local organic results. The more SERP presence, the better. Attached image should provide clarity to those who are confused. I suspect I know the answer to this question, but since I can't find a source to verify my beliefs, I'm crowdsourcing. Thanks in advance! NhoihY1

Scoot local links
I've been approached from Scoot trying to sell me their local directory links.
Local Listings | | LaurenGT
Its a one-off price of around £80 to be listed on all of their 500+ directories and £20 a month to be able to do any changes and to keep the web links active.
The list of the directories are here - http://submittrackz.scoot.co.uk/directories The question is, are the links of much benefit for local seo?
I was thinking of reselling this so the cost is not the problem so much, its just the quality of the links in question.
Thanks

Local SEO: Special charakters in brand name?
Hey guys, we run a local gym in Germany located in Nuremberg called: "STUDIO N°1 - natürlich fit". Our domain is: www.studio-no1.de We are currently working on a new website since our current Website isn't really SEO optimized. Until then I would like to start optimizing some off-page attributes. As far as I know one of the main points in Local SEO is that your firm is registered at important directories. In our case we are already registred in most of the important german directories. The problem is that our oficicial company name has a special charakter included. This means that in some cases we have "N°1" and in some others "No1! Our Google Business name for example has "N°1", facbook not (no special charakter allowed). Germanys most important site for listings: Gelbeseiten, doesn't even allow special charakters in brand names.... On which name should I focus to get all the business listings to have identical NAP informations? Does it even matter? Schould I focus on "STUDIO No1 - natürlich fit" or "STUDIO N°1 - natürlich fit"? I hope you could understand my problem. Big Thanks Jonas

How to keep local citation solicitations away
Is there a way to get a client good citations for local SEO without them being badgered by solicitations by the citation sites, or at least minimize it. I realize once a company is listed they are on the telemarketing radar, but in specific keeping companies like manta , yelp etc. I am finding when I list manually for my clients that they are receiving an onslaught of 'your listing doesn't count unless you upgrade' kind of calls from the companies who I verified with. Does this happen when you list with an automated listing system such as Moz Local or any of the competitors? Thanks.

Can We Outrank The Google Places Local Listing 7 pack in 2015?
Hello everyone, I would like to know if it's possible and if any of you had success outranking / ranking above the Google Local Listing 7 pack? I am in Canada and every time I search for something like (city+dentist) (toronto dentist) I do not see any organic result above the 7 pack. I searched for like 10 city and every searches the local listing are the first to show up and the organic result under it. So I did not see any organic result outranking the Google Places and I look at like 10 different city if not more. So I would like to know If i can rank above them for organic results with no Google places, with no physical address, local phone number and/or citations even if there is currently no organic result showing up above them ? What do you guys think ? Thank You

Swiss SEO Companies
Hello Moz Community! My name is Colby. I work with Comit Developers here in the US, but I currently have a client that is in need overseas. My client is looking for SEO work in Switzerland. We've never worked in this country, but we are willing to outsource to get a little help. I am looking for some smaller SEO companies in or nearby Zurich. Does anyone have any ideas? We are looking for companies who can charge fair prices. I'm not sure how expensive the Swiss market is for SEO, but I'd love some insight. Can anyone help me?

Paid Yahoo Listings - I Need This, Right?
With the help of a 3rd party contractor, our company has been claiming and curating local listings for several months across dozens of advised platforms. After months of nightmares with Yahoo support, I see that they no longer support free basic local listings and you must buy enhanced listings at $9.95. I'm correct in proposing this to my supervisors, right? We have 70 locations so that's a pretty penny (and have already dropped some funds on our initial efforts), but isn't this a necessity? Not just because it's a top 3 search engine, that it's a major part of the local ecosystem, but that they also have partnered with Yelp and are ramping up their local search efforts? I know there are new tools out there right now (Moz Local, Yext, Locu, etc.), but I only need Yahoo and they don't fit in with our needs at this time. Please advise - thank you!
