Is it "correct" to welcome to my social community an authority figure?
-
Hi,
I just "earned" an authority figure as a follower on my company's twitter account (not a big account - 600 followers).
The authority figure is the founder of a very relevant and big niche news site.
Should I welcome her to my community? Is it correct putting her on the spot?
Will it offend other followers who I don't welcome?(Needless to say that I would love the opportunity to blog with them etc. - to have a relationship)
Thanks
-
I suspected that hence the original question.
About greeting everyone... not a possibility for me at this time (maybe a weekly welcome with no name dropping).
Thanks

BeytzNet, I would make every attempt to welcome everyone to your community, not just authority figures. Treat them just as if they're anyone else who has just joined.
If you owned a restaurant and a celebrity walked in, would you give them special treatment? I hope not. They're just there to eat, not be paraded around in front of everyone. Welcome them to the community, welcome them to your restaurant, and give them the same special service that you would anyone else.

No, it still wouldn't change anything for me, but remember, there are no rules around this, only etiquette.
Re-tweeting her Tweets is one of the points I mentioned above
I would keep it subtle and not rush to try and gain her attention. She isn't going to unfollow you because you didn't say welcome, but I would start to engage with her.

Thanks, makes sense.
How about just retweeting something of hers that correlates with my site?
This will also put me "on her radar" but in a more subtle way - wouldn't you say...Another last minute edit...
Going through her tweets I just noticed someone else (big with 10,000 followers) thanking her stating its an honor. The figure then favorited it and RT it in her line...Does that change the answer?

Hi,
There are no real rules around this and if you haven't said 'welcome' to others, I might be tempted to avoid doing so this time. People won't be following your Twitter account in order to have you welcome them; it is more about what you have to say and offer.
Keep up with the level of Twitter activity and if you wish to engage with them, watch out for their Tweets and start by commenting and re-tweeting what they say. It is a nice way to ease into making more contact with them.

High authority brand expanding product line, domain question
Hi MOZers, I've been given a handy little domain puzzle to deal with and would love insight from the community. Â Here's the situation: We're retailers of one specific, big, nationally known product. Â Let's pretend it's the Snuggee (IT'S NOT). Â People search for it and buy it from our site, or from Amazon or other retailers that we distribute it to. We're about to expand to carry a bunch of related, but different products - so from a one-product brand to 5 or 6 different items, relating to different keyword searches. Â Imagine Snuggee people want to start selling a whole bunch of products that solve the same needs of warming the front of your body and making you look silly. The owners want to change the main domain from [specific product] to [name similar to specific product, but is more general]. Â What concerns me is how to handle the fame of the branded product in terms of domain names. Â Current domain, based on that product, has a ton of links and a decent age. Â Owners are thinking to redirect everything to fresh new unestablished domain. Â While I know 301s will pass most link value, it will also be a home page that will be about a bunch of products - not just that main known one. Â In fact, we're considering making a URL for each product as landing page, of which old famous product would be one of 5 or 6 pages. Two main options we're considering right now: Keep old domain as a doorway page featuring just old product, with same look and feel, and from which any links would point to the new domain. Â Try to keep this as ranking for top result for this search, which should be easy. Unify everything under new domain, with old product being featured on a separate page / subdirectory. Â Hope that new home page still can rank pretty well for our old product, even though it will be talking about other products now as well. What we'd stand to lose would be the SERP for old products featuring too many big box retailers that sell our stuff and take a chunk out of our margins. Â The goal is to help us become known for many things, while still being always the best search result for what we're already known for. Which of those two options seem best, or is there another I'm missing altogether? Thank you!

Rel =" author" and/or Rel= "publisher" plugin
Has anyone used or know of a plugin for setting up authorship and/or publisher-ship? I have noticed that there are some plugins but I'm not sure if they are reliable. Would love to know if there's an easy way to set this up. We use All in One SEO pack, not Yoast, btw. Thanks for your suggestions!

Rel=author markup in head tag
Between Google's confusing instruction on implementing rel=author and the volumes of blog posts, I'm sufficiently confused. We have a bunch of writers on our site that we'd like to expose in search and connect with their content. I'd like their bylines to link to their author page rather than to their Google+ profile. Â So, I'm thinking this is what I need to do: 1. Have writers create a Google+ profile linking to their bio page on our site in the "contributor" section of their Google+ profle 2. Add the link rel=author tag to the of their author bio page like this 3. Link their bylines on each story to their author page like this John Public Is this right? Â I'm working with an inflexible CMS so I have to go through IT, which means I have to get this right the first time. Any feedback/ corrections/ improvements are much appreciated.

Do cuss words on social media sites affect ranking?
This is a hard one, I'm sure. In regards to search, I've read that Facebook pays close attention to verbs and that Google takes into account related words close to anchor text and search terms. Now I have the unique opportunity to work as the internet sales and marketing consultant for a company in serious need of brand reputation repair. The company has experienced a terrible fallout from a recent product recall. Unfortunately in this case, the company site has really strong reach, which means that our blog posts, product descriptions, and twitter comments can be found copied on hundreds of websites hours after they are posted. The most recent incident has associated our brand name with words like cheaters, scam, phoney, copycat, and other words that will certainly get filtered here. All my attempts to assure unconditional refunds and offer phone support get labeled as a desperate attempt to save the brand. No doubt, the company has issues but will surely overcome them in time. SEO Question: Should I close the Facebook page and set strong filters on a new page to delete the onslaught of negative comments or should we spend the time to clean up the current page? This is a difficult decision, as I know many companies like Hubspot, Mailchimp, and Rackspace actually look at Facebook pages to qualify business leads (no fans, go home). Damage control suggestions also welcome, but the crux of this issue here is how our brand name and product names will be associated with cuss words or negative terms and how this will affect our ranking in SERPs.

On the "new" YouTube" layout how can I select the correct Facebook page to connect to when my Facebook account has multiple business pages attached to it?
On the "new" YouTube" layout how can I select the correct Facebook page to connect to when my Facebook account has multiple business pages attached to it? My Facebook account has three business pages and the "base" user profile. I am trying to connect one  of the business pages to a YouTube channel but each time I attempt to do this YouTube selects the "base" user profile and I cannot determine how to switch it to the correct business page. I attempted to connect while signed in "as the page" but it would not allow that. Thanks for any help!
