Abnormally high number of root domains linking to root domains
-
My client runs a very small business hiring out space in a single warehouse and rarely adds content to his incredibly badly optimised wordpress site.
Can anyone make any wild guesses as to why my client has 2.9 million root domains linking to root domains? He also has a domain authority of 100. Strange when the number one competitor in warehouse space in this part of the world is Gumtree (equivalent of Craig's List) and that only has 9.25k root domains linking to root domains and site authority of 80.
Is there any way of finding out where these links are coming from via Moz?
Thanks

Is your client Google?
Seriously (I'm not as funny as I think I am) something is wrong here. Feel free to share the URL with me via private message me http://moz.com/messages/write or write the help team at help @ moz.com and we'll try to get this sorted out for you.

The only way I can see that this is a 100 DA is if the site is possibly a subdomain of wordpress or similar, hence the disproportionate links? Is the site self hosted and you have access to the server?
-
Now this is what I called a rear case J
DA 100 for small business sounds fishy to me! I agree with Chris… go to Open site explorer and dive in to the link details… it will not contain all the links but still enough data to make you day and see what quality of links are pointing back to the website and then decide why there are so many links pointing to your client’s website.
There are few possibilities that I would like to mention
- You client was previously involved in to Paid links to a greater extent and that is why the number f root domains are just huge.
- Someone is involved in the negative SEO for your client’s brand (very rear chances)
- Your client’s brand name is insanely amazing that even a superman wants to link to it… in that case the DA of 100 makes sense to me!
Hope this helps!

Tabitha, you should first go to www.opensiteexplorer.org and run a report there. It's not going to give you the whole 3M links though. You may also try Ahrefs.com and majestic.com.

What is your best technique of getting .Gov and .Edu links?
I'm looking for some great techniques to get .Gov and .Edu links. Please do not comment "Great content" because I know that. I'm looking for something beyond creating great linkworthy content.

What type of links to focus on...
Hi all Having just built a new site, I'm now looking at how best to SEO it. In past years, I gave into the temptation to outsource the backlinking altogether. For this project though, I am taking a much more hands on approach: I am either writing or working with good content writers I am posting to Twitter + FB more regularly With regards to backlinks, I am being much more specific as to how I go about it. I want to remain very niche specific and use only trustable sites. The question I have though, is how to know how to split the backlink types? I've looked at competitors using LinkDetective, but cannot seem to work out any common denominators. Some have more blogs than articles, while others have a lot of 'unknown' types (according to LinkDetective) If you're starting from scratch, what do you aim for? If you're aiming to build 100 backlinks (hypothetically), how would you decide on the breakdown (e.g. 20% blogs, 20% articles etc) Do Panda or Penguin updates this year influence choice? Thanks!

Search shows site links, but not hyperlinked?
2 of our competitors on Google have site links show in their results which brings you to that specific page. In our listing we show up with the same results a few spots behind them with our site links visible showing very similar content, but are not actually hyper linked. Is there a way to fix the issue and let people actually be able to click on our site links instead of just reading them?

Site in top 3 with a 1-day old domain and no backlinks
Hi everyone, I'm trying to understand some searchresults, when searching in the netherlands for 'online casino':
Competitive Research | | iwebdevnl
http://www.google.nl/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=online+casino&pws=0 You'll see as position 3 result this website: http://bit.ly/qhRsUT, it's obviously that this site is there because of blackhat. But how did it come there such high for a keyword with high competition? I don't see anything wrong in the website? It's not like Google did something wrong, because it happened already a few times for this keyword with different domains from that owner. Regards, Yannick0 -
50,000 Links From The Same Website
Hey Mozers, I was conducting competitive research for a client of mine and I discovered one of their competitors has over 50,000 backlinks! After removing my heart from my stomach I realized that 99.9% of the links came from a single website that doesn't have nearly that many pages. Has anyone experienced this in the past? And if so what exactly is going on? C
