Self Hosting Videos in Wordpress
-
Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to host my own videos on my website in addition to uploading them to YouTube.
My site is Wordpress-based, and I use Pages for the main landing pages, Posts to create the different products I offer. Is there a good way to upload my videos of each product into those Posts for SEO purposes?
Maybe there's a specific plugin that I should be using?
Thanks in advance,
Shawn

You can try uploading your video to amazons3 with a link back to your site. I would recommend using <cite>**www.ezs3.com. **</cite>
However, there is nothing worse than seeing the same exact video on a SERP. Why not do different videos related to your topic so each video give usable information.

We gave you advice for what in our opinion was "best practice". That generally works best with Google.
Have you ever considered the possibility that the more strongly a YouTube video is promoted and used the greater its ability to get good rankings and pull traffic on the YouTube site and in the Google SERPs?
Your attempt to sneak a second video into the SERPs might actually be successful in getting you less total traffic.
I still vote for using the YouTube video everywhere to run up the popularity stats.

I guess I should have clarified my goals here. I do use YouTube, but I've also read that self-hosting your videos gives you the opportunity to have a second spot in the Universal Search Results. Ideally, on a search for one of my products, I'd like both the YouTube video and the self-hosted video to show up if Google shows video results in the SERPS.
Is this recommended?

I agree with the other guys. Simply add your videos to YouTube and then grab the embed code from your video and paste the code into your video. Just use the html tab and past the code and you're good to go.

Yep... I want to rack up the view count because that might influence how strongly YouTube promotes your videos.

I always have a tendency to use Youtube as well since they are owned by Google. I believe there is a good chance that makes Google have an affinity for the site.
One of the issues I found embedding Youtube code while using Wordpress is that many validation errors appear, which I despise.and Google doesn't appreciate either.
I would highly suggest using this plugin, which will correct to valid code:
In addition to this, make sure you have filled out all of the content, titles, and geo elements properly following the upload to Youtube.

I simply use the embed code provided by YouTube. Works reliably and they cover the bandwidth.

Product Videos and SEO
We sell high end products and we try to educate the consumer as much as possible. Since the attention span is short, we try and break up the features/functions into 5-6 videos. We post everything to Youtube and we have been adding it to our blog as well. I am currently tasked with rebuilding our blog from the ground up. This means getting rid of all the thin content, updating content, etc. We have many videos up there and Just trying to figure out what the best practice should be. The blog is wordpress based and I have the videos now set up in a category structure. Should I just add each video as a video custom post type? Should I have each video posted with a transcript? Or should I post each video with sub background text of the video? We have about 120 videos in all and adding more, but making them longer to reduce the amount of videos per product going forward. Thank you.

Where to host viral campaign content?
I'm about to launch a series of viral videos for a growing UK brand, in which the viewer will have control of the storyline (e.g. tippex bear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ba1BqJ4S2M). It will start with one theme (1 main 'landing page' video with a series of 'ending' videos). If successful, there will be more themes added in the same format (on-going campaigns). Each campaign will feature high volume niche keywords and will hopefully appear in the SERPs. The keywords will not compete directly with the main branded website but there will be some relevance. My question is, where is the best place to host the content? YouTube = max exposure, easier to get vid preview into SERPs but links to site are nofollow? must pay for customised page functionality - see this link http://www.quora.com/How-did-they-make-the-Tipp-ex-Interactive-YouTube-video **Microsite **= keyword rich domain for each theme with links to main site? more difficult to rank with new domains? Main website = (DA=44) easier to rank using existing domain, helps increase DA with new linkbait? Use video sitemap to appear in SERPs Blog = as above (blog hosted on main domain), but keeps main site focussed on core keywords I assume YouTube will achieve best reach/buzz, but would I miss out on any SEO benefits? Thanks.
