Neglected Blog SEO help
-
I am wedding & sports photographer in San Antonio. I've been busy with photographing sports (lots of them) & totally neglected SEO work for nearly 2 years. I know it's a broad question but what is the best way to get back on track? Should I create a strong landing page with keyword wedding photographer? Should i make separate websites - one for weddings, one for sports? Is PPC good way to jump start? Do I have website structure problems etc? If anyone can comment, that would be great. I am willing to hire SEO experts so if anyone knows anybody, please let me know
My website is www.soobumimphotography.com
Thank you in advance

Hi there,
I would stick to one high quality website with separate sections for sports and weddings. My only hesitation is the vast difference in the subject matter and the fact that wedding photography is such an important niche unto itself, but from an SEO point of view, one website is definitely preferable. You'll need to work on site structure and the branding of the wedding and sports sections to differentiate them and not confuse / alienate your potential clientele.
For the home page, I would go with the part of the business that is most profitable (I am guessing weddings?) and use navigation and SEO to optimise the sports photography page. PPC is a great way to get an influx of new traffic, especially if you want to do some conversion rate testing in the early stages, before you have a good amount of organic traffic.
I would consider creating pages for specific genres, even within your chosen niches. For example, a basketball page, including all the basketball content you've created like http://www.soobumimphotography.com/basketball-floor-remote/ and http://www.soobumimphotography.com/2013-nba-finals/
This section would sit under sports and be linked to from http://www.soobumimphotography.com/portfolio/sports/, along with a section for football, soccer, volleyball, boxing...
In terms of conversion, the contact form should be specific to the page it sits on - there is no need for a generic form with engagement and wedding options on the sports page, for example. I would tailor that to ask about the sport, the teams, the league (NCAA? High schoo? Pro?). I'd also really consider reviews or recommendations from your former clients, especially for weddings. They add trust, especially when paired with the people's actual photos. You can use Rich Snippets to include star ratings, and those star ratings can show up in search results: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/146645?hl=en

I hope this provides some ideas for now. Let me know if anything is unclear.
Cheers,

Hi
Whoever you choose to run with, be sure that they...
1. Have a complete "health check" identifying if you been hit by any algorithms. Once the company has this report, they can get to work on removing any poor quality links, duplicates etc. If this is not carried out, any good work you do in terms of future digital marketing is probably going to be a waste of time
2. On-page SEO - Make sure your webpages are optimised. From looking at your site I can see it's a little starved off content, and also i see so much opportunity for new content.
3. On-page SEO - this will also allow you to develop a blog, generating "read worthy" info.
4. Getting registered for Google, Bing LOCAL BUSINESS SEARCH!
This would be a good start for you. PPC is good although I can see some "call to action" elements to add. Remember organic SEO development should be the core of your online marketing efforts, not PPC. I believe PPC should compliment you marketing efforts should you have the budget to do so.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Gary

Product Tag Value on SEO
Do product tags for ecommerce sites have any benefit to SEO? Or are they redundant? i.e. thespacecollective.com/astronaut-moldavite-pendant (tags appear below the product name on the right)

Should I spend time going back and optimizing old blog posts for SEO or just write new posts?
The site I manage (Boutique Estate Law Firm) has at least 350 old blog post archived that were not well optimized for SEO. Would it be valuable to go through and optimize those old posts or just write new optimized posts even though they are on the same subjects? My boss loves to churn out 300 word posts.

Page Title in Local SEO Title Tags?
Hi All, Still working on my title tag usage for local SEO, and I was hoping for some more feedback. My question is this: In Local SEO titles, I'm using location + keyword combinations, unique on each page. However, since each page has a specific title for the client, I figure I should be placing that at the front. My thought here was that this helps with the overall usability to the reader of the website. Ex. Contact Us page for Pizza shop Contact Us | Springfield IN Gourmet Pizza | Moe's Italian Pizza Anyone have thoughts on this one? Thank you!

Which Blog Platform to link to an eCommerce site is best?
I just hired a content writer to blog on my site, but I want to make sure I have the right blog set up properly before doing so. I currently have my blog on my own domain. http://alturl.com/ixd7p It's a pretty crappy blog, to be quite frank. (The link to the blog is in the footer). It doesn't allow me to change category titles so it's throwing duplicate content - not good. I am seriously considering getting a self hosted Wordpress blog and linking that to my site instead at 3dcart- so it will be blog.domainname.comMy CONCERN.... I always heard that it's best to have the blog right right on the eCommerce site (just as I have it now) because it keeps feeding the domain fresh content. If I have a self hosted Wordpress blog and have it linked to my site, will it still feed my site fresh content?

What is the best way to integrate our blog into our ecommerce website?
Hi all, We run an eCommerce website at www.oursite.com plus a blog (including news / articles / reviews / how-to guides etc.) at blog.oursite.com (those aren't really our site URLs, BTW ;-). For SEO reasons previously discussed on here, and for ease of use for our customers / browsers, we now want to integrate the two more closely. This will mean: Our blog will move to www.oursite.com/blog We will try to feature the blog content in places where it is relevant to customers (so e.g. news and blog posts about shoes would appear on our shoes category page, a review of some Adidas XL1000 shoes would appear on the Adidas XL1000 shoes product page) The blog is currently run on a wordpress.com site, so we'll need a new CMS (or wordpress.org) to get more control of the data. My issues are that, although it's good from a users point of view, having blog articles appear in lots of different places on the site might cause issues with duplicate content from a search engine's point of view. Has anyone got any pointers on how to integrate the two in a way that will make most use of the good original content coming out of our blog, while not "watering it down" by spreading it around too much? Can anyone point to examples of shops that do this well? Is there any software (other than Wordpress) that people would recommend using? As always, any help greatly appreciated! Alex
