Nice links.
Personal experience: I had a manual penalty on a "MFA" domain for unnatural links. I did not renew it on time and he has been offline for few days. When he came back online, there was no manual penalty in GWT anymore.
So, if only few days offline can waive a penalty, I would be very confident for a domain offline several years.

Here's a some info from Matt Cutts on a similar situation someone had back in December that may help to allay some of your worries about a penalty persisting from a long unregistered domain.

If the domain has remained unregistered for five years I don't think you need to be concerned about any lingering penalties. I feel confident that you will be fine, just get great content associated with it, earn some good links, promote it through social media and BAM. You are all good.

I'm deciding to open a new fresh site, so I'm looking for history of different domains (which are available), I was testing some of them in OpenSiteExp and no one link is pointing, also http://web.archive.org/ report pages (few) on Apr/2009 and from this point the domain is unregistered, I'm worry about register a penalized domain.
PS.: I check these domains in WOT and seems to be clear (no reputation at this time).
Do you recommends any tool to check it?
Thank you
Claudio

When you checked it in the way back machine did you see any on page issues on the old website that make you scared?
Can you run it through open site explorer or AHREFS to see what websites might still be linking to it?
Is there any content associated with the domain now?

Is it worth keeping a decades-old domain that's merely 301 redirecting to the main domain?
Hi fellow Moz SEOs, We have a bigger client who we just did an SEO Site Audit for, and it was discovered that they have several domain names that are simply 301 redirecting to their main domain name. One of their domains in particular is decades old, and the client is asking if there is any value in keeping it (and the others), or simply leaving them as-is. Considering the domain age, does anyone have any recommendations? Much appreciated, Zack Barton

Page Authority inherited by domain
Hi there, We (blog.fust.ch) created our blog at the same time as (blog.interdiscount.ch). We're both blogs of big brands in switzerland. But there is one big different. The interdiscount blog ranks much better than we do. But they not even optimize the blog for standard SEO points. Now i found the reason i guess. They get the complete page authority of the brand interdiscount.ch inherited. How is that possible, because we don't..? (Screens in attachment) Best regards Sandro K7zxz ndODO

Two Different Domains exact same content
Hello, I suspect I know the answer to this but would like to have it confirmed. I have been speaking to a company the last couple of weeks who have 2 domains with the exact same content. Possible a third but they haven't supplied a link. This from all I've read would be a huge problem for ranking and SEO. What would be the best way to deal with this ? I did do a search and found articles/questions on same content on the same site and in articles etc but nothing about exactly the same websites on 2 domains. Cheers David.

Using pictures from another domain
We are building several sites for several clients which will be using images from the manufacturer. Our dev team wants to insert the manufacturer's url for the images, instead of actually downloading the image and hosting on our server. There are thousands of images, so downloading images to our server will be time consuming, so we are looking for a shortcut.... however I'm concerned this will cause other issues. Is using manufactueresdomain.com/12345.jpg going to cause SEO issues? will this generate Google penalties? Since we are not able to control the image file name, we cannot optimize it. We will add Alt text and Title tag for each image, but the file name is random characters. How important is the file name for SEO?

PageRank vs. Domain Authority
A web-site has PR5 but in OSE I see that Domain Authority is only 26. I've also checked and the domain was registered in 2009. Is this normal?

Why does a site have no domain authority?
A website was built and launched eight months ago, and their domain authority is 1. When a site has been live for a while and has such a low DA, what's causing it?

Domain authority vs. moz difficulty
what type relationship do you see with domain authority and moz difficulty scores? i'm finding a rule of "tens' usually applies.... meaning if da = 45, then difficulty scores of 40-50 are generally within short term reach (3-6 months of simple onpage optimization and an appropriate # ofinbound links to the page). your thoughts/data? just trying to get a feel for a consensus 🙂

RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.co.uk [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.co.uk/index.php$1 [r=301,nc] which is better for SEO should i forward to www.domain.com/ or www.domain.com/index.php0
