Index.php and /
-
Hello,
We have a php system and in the MOZ error report our index.php shows up as a duplicate for / (home page). I instituted a rel canonical on the index.php because the / gets better rank than the other. This said, the error report through MOZ still shows them as duplicates. Should I be using a 301 instead? Please help! Also, I would love a good technical SEO book (for bridging the gap between SEO and programmer) if someone can recommend one?
Thanks in advance!

fix the links, so that they point to the correct url.
-
no use having the canonical as well.
iwould be looking for links within your site that point to https://findmover.in
also do you need to use https? if your site does not need to be encrypted, then it would run faster as http

Good Answer.

Yes you should 301 redirect instead.
but you must have links that point to the index.php url or the crawler would not have found it. fix those links so that they point to "/"
links that go thought a 301 loose a bit of link juice, if you can make your link go directly to the correct url you can save that links juice.
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.index.php\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(.)index.php$ /$1 [R=301,L]

Cross-domain / subdomain tracking in GA?
Hi there, My client has a site website.com and a booking engine, booking.website.com They are currently tracking the main site and the booking subdomain as two separate properties in the same GA account. The issue is we can't see where users are originating on the subdomain property; it's all being counted as referral. My understanding is we need to set up subdomain tracking using Google Tag Manager in order for GA to pass the user data between the two subdomains. This is fine, except for this one line I am reading on Google's guide to cross-domain tracking: Subdomains If you have updated your tracking code to analytics.js, then no additional configuration is required to track subdomains. You can use cross domain tracking to collect data from a primary domain, like www.example.com, and a subdomain, like www.subdomain.example.com, in a single Analytics account property. That last line makes it sound like we should be using cross-domain tracking for this purpose. Are we correct in setting up subdomain tracking and NOT cross-domain tracking to be able to track users across subdomains on the same domain?

Redirecting all URLs appended with index.htm or index.html
It has come to my attention with one of my clients (WordPress website) that for some time they have within their Landing Page report (of GA - Google Analytics) URLs that should all be pointing to the one page, example: domain.com/about-us, also has a listing in GA as domain.com/about-us/index.htm Is this some kind of indication of a subdirectory issue? Has anyone had experience with this in such wordpress plugins as Yoast SEO, or other SEO plugin? My thoughts here are to simply redirect any of these non-existent files with a redirect in .htaccess - but what I'm using isn't working. I will insert the redirect here - - and any help would be greatly appreciated. RewriteEngine onRewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html?

Understanding Source/Medium & Conversion Paths
I had always thought that the Traffic Source/Medium in all sections of GA shows last interaction, and the only way to see indirect conversions was through Multi-Channel Functions/Conversion Paths. However, the screenshots - shows transactions and conversion paths that resulted from an email campaign we've done recently. As you can see on the conversion path screenshot, there were 5 conversions (1 conversion type selected - ecommerce/transactions) 3 direct conversion or last interaction and 2 assisted conversions. However - according to the transactions screenshot - there are 5 transactions, all show up as email. I would have thought, that the transaction page would have only shown 3 email conversions - for the 3 direct/last interactions conversions seen in the conversion path. Any idea why this would happen? Was my initial understanding of traffic sources wrong? O7v3cTj.jpg aAPhd8e.jpg

Bing Won't Index Site - Help!
For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure out why my client's site is not indexed on bing and yahoo search engines. My Google analytics is telling me I’m getting traffic (very little traffic) from Bing almost daily but Bing webmaster tools is telling me I’ve received no traffic and no pages have been indexed into Bing since the beginning of December. At once point I was showing ranking in Bing for only one keyword then all of a sudden none of my pages were being indexed and I now rank for nothing for that website. From Google I’m getting over 1200 visits per month. I have been doing everything I can to possibly find the culprit behind this issue. I feel like the issue could be a redirect problem. In webmaster tools on Bing I’ve used “Fetch as Bingbot” and every time I use it I get a Status of “Redirection limit reached.”. I also checked the CRAWL Information and it’s saying all the URL’s to the site are under 301 redirect. A month or so ago the site was completely revamped and the canonical URL was changed from non www to www. I have tried manually adding pages to be indexed multiple times and Bing will not index any of the sites pages. I have submitted the sitemap to Bing and I am now at a loss. I don’t know what’s going on and why I can’t get the site listed on Bing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Google Webmaster Tools - spike in 'not selected' under Index Status
Hi fellow mozzers Has anyone seen a huge shift in the number of pages 'Not Selected' under Index Status in Google WMT, and been able to identify what the problem has been? My new client recently moved their site to wordpress - and in doing so the number of pages 'not selected' rose from ~200 to ~1100, It was high before but is ridiculous now. I am thinking there must be a new duplicate content issue which should be cleaned up in my quest to improve their SEO. Could it be the good old WP tag/category issue? In which case I won't worry as Joost is doing its job of keeping stuff out of the index. There are loads of image pages which could well appear as dupe as have no content on them (i do need to fix this), but Google is already indexing these so doesn't explain the ones 'not selected'. I've tried checking dupe title tags but there are very few of them so that doesn't help Any other ideas of how to identify what these problem pages maybe? Thanks very much! Wendy

Gah, unfairly hit by massive google penalty :/
Hi Guys, We're the folk behind http://wpmu.org and have just been hit by a massive fall in google referrals, see attached 😕 There's no reason in webmaster tools for this, were not engaging in any spammy or dodgy practices and are a massively established and well staffed news *& tutorial site for WordPress (one of the biggest, in fact!) We've upgraded WP, and requested a referral, but without actually knowing what's going on it's extremely hard to figure out what to do 😕 Maybe we're a wrong hit regarding this: http://www.webmonkey.com/2012/04/googles-new-search-algorithm-to-crack-down-on-black-hat-webspam/ ? At the moment pretty much the only thing I can think of is one of our authors being dodgy, but I don't think they would be, and I don't know how to go about finding out. Anyway, if you guys could take a look and let us know anything you think might be up, and share any advice that'd be super super appreciated! Cheers, James Screen-Shot-2012-04-27-at-8.39.32-AM.png
