Website Mods and SEO for Multi-Location Practice?
-
We're in the process of taking over a WordPress website within the next week for a 3 location medical practice. These are in 3 different cities. 1 location is in a pretty competitive market, while the other 2 are not.
The current site isn't bad for design and navigation and they don't have the budget for a full-redesign. Structurally, it is sound. It lacks a lot of content though and a blog. It is not responsive, should we convert to make it responsive?
At first glance you can't tell they have 3 locations and their content for each location and services offered is pretty weak. What other suggestions do any of you have for getting the main site to rank for all 3 locations? I know it'll take some time since they are no where to be found now, but just looking for any other tips you may all have. Thanks!! - Patrick

You're welcome

There you go again! Thanks for that suggestion and I'll check it out tonight

Great to hear, Patrick! Good luck at your next meeting with the client. You might want to check out Get5Stars as this makes review acquisition easier and actually kind of exciting for the business owner!

I can always take away a little nugget when you write an article or post a response! I love the "Review Acquisition Strategy" wording and idea behind it. I know they are important but getting clients to understand that can be tough, but just those words would help pack a punch to any client in any meeting. Thanks for that! - Patrick

Hi Patrick,
I'll just reel off some suggestions here for best practices.
-
Yes, do be sure there is a unique landing page for each practice
-
Link to them visibly from the top level menu as well as from the text of the home page
-
Be sure the first thing on these 3 landing pages is the complete business NAP, encoded in Schema
-
Be sure the content on these pages is unique and make it as helpful and awesome as you can
-
Build a unique Google+ Local page for each of the 3 physical locations
-
Build a set of citations for each of the 3 physical locations
-
Create a content development strategy so that the doctors, or a designated company blogger, can continue to publish local-specific copy over time
-
Implement a review acquisition strategy so that all 3 locations are earning reviews
All of these are sound techniques for establishing good local rankings for the client. Hope this helps!

No problem—best of luck, Patrick!

Andrew,
I agree with you about the Home page including content which targets their 3 locations as well as having dedicated "location" pages as well. Rather than do overkill, the Location pages would include Schema markup (NAP) and with creating links for those locations to their G+ pages which all need to be verified, thus letting Google know that they are a true local business.
This practice is super behind on things. No social media profiles, G+ not verified, no other lcoal listings verified/setup, no blog, weak/thin content in all of their pages, no backlinks... the list goes on. I do know I'll be using https://moz.com/local/search. I'm looking forward taking over and getting them ranked finally! Thanks for your tips and response! - Patrick

Hey Patrick —
I would start by making sure each branch has a dedicated page, and make sure each has its own set of directory listings.
Then, I'd make sure the home page had several mentions of each city that it's in (with exact match keywords including both the city and the type of practice they're in).
As you acquire links, I would focus them on one branch page at a time (pick the one with the most business value—maybe go with one of the low hanging fruit if it's worth it; or just tackle the big prize) until you rank where you want to be. That way your efforts are focused on each page.

Andrew, I updated my post. They are in 3 different cities. City A, City B, City C

Hey Patrick, wanted to clarify. When you say 3 locations, are you referring to 3 neighborhoods in the same municipality? Or 3 different cities?

Using the Onpage Grader for Local Business websites
Hey Guys, Curious how people use the onpage grader for optimizing pages for local businesses specifically, I'm interested if people use keywords with or without a geo modifier since adding a geo modifier will prevent more natural writing to increase the score. If you don't use a geo modifier do you have some general rules of the city that needs to be in the H1 and first paragraph etc. Any tips for using the page grader for local businesses would be great Thanks!

Correct Localisation of my website on Google
I have a website which services various countries, specifically the United Kingdom and United States of America. I am now expanding the target of my website to focus on Australian and South African customers. The structure of my website is www.websitename.com/us/ for the American audience. This is also what appears on a Google search when browsing in the USA. For the United Kingdom we use just www.websitename.com which works and shows in the UK. When I have created the new versions which are:

I have submitted the relevant sitemaps to Google Search Console. Yet still from Australia and South Africa the .com version of the website it what shows. Please offer any advice to how I can get the correct version of the website showing in the correct location?1 -
Schema training/resources for local SEO?
I am currently in the process of apply schema for dozens of clients (many are large retailers). Although I am not a developer, I do know the basics of schematic markup & structured data. I do work with a development team and I'm trying to provide them with schema application best practices. Obviously there are many good articles/blog posts out there about schema. However I'm looking for a more substantial training course, webinar or resource website about schema application. Does anybody have any good recommendations?

Best Practice for Inserting Keywords into Title Tag?
Hello Fellow Mozers I am looking to open a discussion for my question. I will give an example to clarify things. I have a keyword I want to rank "London Luxury Apartments" Which title would be best or what would you suggest in addition to the titles below: Option A) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury London Apartments | Brand Name Option B) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury Apartments in London | Brand Name Option C) London Luxury Apartments | Luxury Apartments for Sale in London | Brand Name Any other option not displayed above that you have extensively tested and know it works. Have in mind the following : I am aware of the 55 character limit so lets not make this discussion about the character Limit. I want to keep the discussion on the Keyword Format and Keyword Logic of using the same keyword just in a different order. The above is just an example in order to best illustrate what I wish to talk about. Round one... Begin!!

Hi I was wondering is there any specific rules for Local SEO for a service company which provides a service in a variety of cities but only has one physical location. For example is it ok to target the other cities in Title Tags or would this be frowned upon? Regards

Can anyone recommend small UK based SEO Consultancy companies?
Hi there, We're possibly looking for a small, completely whitehat SEO firm here in the UK to work with us from early next year. We've probably got a budget of around £200 - £300 a month. We're looking for top up work really, not a complete campaign. I've checked out http://moz.com/community/recommended but it's not broken down by region or budget. I had an embarrassing phone call with Distilled who it turns out charge £10,000 a month minimum! Can anyone recommend anyone to speak to?

Can a localization web design update hurt SEO?
Hi mozzers, Me and my team are having a major website refresh and update for one of our client's. The structure of the website can be divided into 2 types of pages: corporate pages(representing the core services of the company which rank nationally) and microsite pages(representing each and every 30+ franchise locations ranking locally). Right now when you visit the Seattle microsite page you have localization feel but the main nav(of corporate site) remains at the top on top of the subnav(orange under map) which is customized for the location where you are in. My colleague who is the main person in charge of this website update would like to create a better localization experience for users in specific cities by having one main navigation instead of 2 displaying exactly the same pages displayed on the actual subnav (actual microsite) (images are below of actual and potential look of the website). FYI: URLs will remain the same. I really like this idea of a more personalized experience but I am afraid that the local seo strategy we have done so far may be jeopardized because of this new design but i am not sure. Am I right? Are we going to lose national and/or local rankings? Will this fresh design hurt the SEO we have been doing for the past few years? It would be great to provide me "best practice" tips to follow for this case as far as what are the steps I should be paying attention... Thank you guys! ktJrsNx.png Boq4Pvt.png
