Best option for Affiliate links on your website?
-
Hello!
I have a website which is completely affiliate based.
What is the best option for the links on-page?
Examples would be:
- affiliate.website.com/12901730?2=3532523=user12342901730?2=3532523=user?Whittie
- www.website.com/affiliate=user?Whittie=load-of-tracking=date=blah=blaH?blah
- And So on...
Which look ugly as sin when you hover over the Anchor Text.
Ideally I would like a 301 redirect to mysite.com/goto/affiliatename, which would then have a rel nofollow.
This way I could also track the exit pages via Analytics too guess, which I've not currently got set up and i'm desperate for it to be done.
Does this method effect anything on search engines though? I've seen mixed report, but going back to 2011 which is too long ago in the SEO world.
Another option is to use the likes of "Bit.ly" or use another domain and host 301s on there? The new bit.ly integration from moz might come in handy here.
Please advise on the subject, I really appreciate any help on this, as i'm at a brick wall. Thanks

Great thanks for that donford.
I've noticed a well ranked competitor is using 302 redirects to do what i'm after. Would this benefit me at all?

The sub issues,
I'll have to preference my response with I have no direct experience with sites that derive their income from solely affiliate clicks / impressions. I have been on the other side of the coin though, where my site was the one doing the affiliation recruitment.
Page load time, always a concern. Thankfully this has a myriad of ways to control it. Script optimization, less affiliates per search, using pagination, etc.
Image size this goes back to the page load time, is it possible to host the images locally? When you start pulling images from everywhere and their brother you end up waiting for their site to relay that information.
Tracking and Analytics, I have no good suggestions here. I know of course you want to compile your own data, but most affiliates sites provide you with inbound metrics.
Good luck hope it helps sort things,

Hi Donford,
I appreciate your reply, in reply to your points;
1 - Sorry I wasn't clear on this, and completely wrote Anchor text when I actually meant the URL usually in the lower left hand corner which you mentioned in point two! Doh!
2 - I see what you're saying, I guess I just want nice clean URLS! Other issues have appeared such as
- Page Load time - Links are tracked currently on the site for impressions, therefore using a script and slowing the site down.
- Image size out of my hands - Images are hosted on the affiliates site and can be up to 80-100kb (which starts to take its toll on the page loads, although it doesn't sound a lot)
- Tracking the links in Analytics - If the links stay as they are, do you know of any solution to track? Never had to add a goal to an outbound link before now.
I feel like moving them to mysite.com/donford/link1 i'd be helping the above 3 points. On the other side of things, i'm assuming Google would see it as cloaking / hiding the url?

Hi Whittie
My opinion would be to use the actual url, avoid using bit.ly anything.
What I am hearing is you're primarily concerned with the hover text on the link. If this is the case, this brings up 2 questions.
1. Are we talking about the Title Text which is which is what should be displayed when you hover over a link? If that is the case it is as simple as fixing/changing the title tag.
2. Are we talking about the browser displayed URL usually in the lower left hand corner? If that is the case, I think it is of little concern as long as the URL directs to a non-frightening website. Most people from my research, do not even pay attention to the browser displayed URL unless they are very security conscience or in the industry. As one of those people who actually look at links, it brings me back to my very first sentence. If I see something like (amazon.com/affiliate/AID=200282xx/Moreblah/Otherstuff=2222422) I am fine clicking the link. If I see any sort of obfuscation link like bit.ly I will not click the link unless I 100% trust the website I'm on.
There are other points that can be made about about SEO practices but I don't believe that is the core of the question being asked.

About DA of the Website
Hi There, I would like to know why one of my website - https://patnalocalguide.com Domain Authority is not improving. It is not going up and down but it is maintaining its score between 10 since last 5 months. Not going above 10 or below. Why is it so? I'm conitnuously working on creating backlinks for the website and the DR score on Ahref improving but the DA is not. What steps to follow to increase DA? How to find out whats going wrong with our present strategy?

Link building
ok mozers i have a few questions. I am starting a new seo campaign and i want to target traffic for "how to make money on autopilot" Question 1. when it comes to link building i have seen some articles saying that i should not send all of my links to my landing page at once but to send links to my backlinks then index then using tiered link building. Is this a must or not? will i get penalized if i build 20 targeted links to my landing page in 1 day, lets say 20, pr7-9 domains? or should i tier it out and link maybe 5 pr9 domains to my landing page, then link 10 pr5 domains to each of those 5 pr9 domains and maybe link 20-pr1 domains to each of those tiered 2 pr5 domains? eq: Tier 1 = 5 PR-9 Tier 2 = 50 PR-5 Tier 3 = 1,000 PR-1 Question 2. Is their a certain amount of backlinks i need to use in order to out do my competitor? or does it just matter on the metrics of my backlinks? and when it comes to indexing these links do i need to index just the 5 pr9 links? or do i need to index all of them? or should i just index the landing page through google webmasters tools and hope it indexes all connecting pages? will doing any of these get my landing page indexed faster in order to rank faster? Question 3. Types of link building. Ok i am targeting guest blogs, wordpress sites, etc to put a link on. Should i focus on smm 'social media marketing' as well? or can i just focus on the traditional seo tactics first? Question 4. Keyword research. ok so my blog post is 'how to make money on autpilot' and from my keyword suggestion tools it picked up a list of keywords suggestions to target. Competition ranges from low to high, search volume ranges from 10 to 1900 visitors per month, after organizing the most relevant keywords to add to my campaign should i target each of the these keywords by creating a link building campaign for each one and target it to my landing page or use it as my 2nd or 3rd tier? those are the questions i really have for now. Here is my blog post http://www.vemomedia.com/how-to-make-money-on-autopilot/ Please feel me in on what i am needing to do in order to get some ranking and on how to run a link building campaign the correct way. Thanx in advance!

Link Building Strategy?
If I use unique content written from writers & post it to good sites (free blogs, bookmarking, directory, articles sites, etc.) having nice good cache, good PR, different IP's do i still have a chance of get hit by Spam actions of google? Planning to do like just 30-50 a month all with unique content or say 1 unique content then re-written & used not more than 3 times. If not this then What else would you suggest? One more thing to add up, like i have 1000+ pages out of which i have like 80-90 pages that matters to me (important pages) then how do I spin the anchor text between all the pages. Should i spin them between 1000+ pages or use only 80-90 IMP pages. If the content is 300 words let say then how many anchor tags should i have?

350 (Out the 750) Internal Links Listed by Webmaster Tools Dynamically Generated-Best to Remove?
Greetings MOZ Community: When visitors enter real estate search parameters in our commercial real estate web site, the parameters are somehow getting indexed as internal links in Google Webmaster Tools. About half are 700 internal links are derived from these dynamic URLs. It seems to me that these dynamic alphanumeric URL links would dilute the value of the remaining static links. Are the dynamic URLs a major issue? Are they high priority to remove? The dynamic URLs look like this: /listings/search?fsrepw-search-neighborhood%5B%5D=m_0&fsrepw-search-sq-ft%5B%5D=1&fsrepw-search-price-range%5B%5D=4&fsrepw-search-type-of-space%5B%5D=0&fsrepw-search-lease-type=1 These URLs do not show up when a SITE: URL search is done on Google!

Link Building
I have to develop a strategy for link building. The SEO guy I have been speaking with has started putting links on .edu sites etc . To me - this "stinks" of manipulating the search engines - which I know we will get stung by at some point. I hope this isn't standard practice - but I don't know what the best way to improve rankings in terms of links etc. We sell health products and are starting to put out 3-4 high quality articles per week. Ideas? Kind Regards Martin

.GOV Link - same impact on my site's rankings whether link to home or Gov related category?
I own a job site and I am about to get a link from a .GOV. My site has a category called "State Jobs". Should I ask the ".Gov" to link to my homepage or to the state job page and use the anchor text "State Jobs". I understand "State Jobs" page would get a big kick by that being the anchor text and linking to that specific page, but the question I have is this: for my site as a whole (homepage and various categories) would they get around the same "push up" whether the linking is to 1) my homepage with anchor text being my site's name or 2) to the state job specific page and in this case the anchor text would be "State Jobs"? thank you

How do I get the best from our Blog and build quality links and drive traffic to our site?
We have recently setup a Wordpress focused blog (blog.towelsrus.co.uk) which is very much work in progress. Because of financial constraints we had to host this on a separate sub domain. I need to get to grips with blogs is new to me (only been doing SEO this for 3 months now) and have have read may posts on the forums here that this is one of the best ways to build links and engage the audience. How do I go about getting people to read my blog, and should I use this to pull in traffic on keywords we cannot through the main site or should i use this to re-enforce and build traction on those keywords we are trying to rank for on the main site?
