Homepage SEO

Hi
I have designed my site with about 10 pages which focus on my main keywords.
My question is what should I do about the homepage?
Do I focus on a keyword on just my brand name?
The homepage is a showcase of all my services and a bit about us.
Thanks

I suggest you optimize your home page for high search volume keyword in your category / business (site's category/business as a whole).

Hi Jamie,
"I have designed my site with about 10 pages which focus on my main keywords."
You may want to be careful not to over optimize your site now you've created a site with a focus on keywords but don't forget Google's focus is users, if you focus on users you're already on the same page as Google - so you can have some great content that users will love and if users love it Google will, there is nothing stopping you from slipping a few keywords in there either.
Now onto the Homepage, think of it like a Tree, the homepage is the trunk that all your users will navigate to all the different branches, so you want to make sure its easy to get to the branches and then easy to get back again. It's a good idea as you said to have a bit of an intro and make sure its got some good navigation.
I really recommend taking a look at a nice Moz guide - http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development
If you're still unsure take a look at some of your competitors see what they've done get some ideas.
Hope some of that helps and best of luck with your homepage.

Hi Jamie,
If the product pages are strong enough off and on-page to rank for their keywords, the home page can act as a catch-all for brand traffic - you see large corporations rank like this often. For instance, say Aviva insurance ranks with its car insurance page for [car insurance], health insurance page for [health insurance], etc., its home page ranks for the brand name and maybe for some general insurance queries that do not specify what the person wants to insure.
On the other hand, there was a time when confused.com ranked first and second in the UK for some insurance terms, once with its home page and once with its specialised insurance page. This isn't ideal and Google usually puts a stop to this pretty quickly, and it's usually only very strong sites that achieve rankings like that, albeit temporarily.
For an extremely weak site, sometimes focusing on the home page is better, but Google would prefer to rank specialised pages for specialised queries as they serve the needs of the searcher better.

Lost SEO contract, new SEO wants us to do the following - can you explain why?
1. Make prokem.co.uk the master domain rather than prokem-corrosion-protection.com 2. Ensure each http URL is 301 redirected to its https counterpart via htaccess rather than in plesk 3. 301 redirect each www.prokem-corrosion-protection.com URL to its co.uk counterpart via htaccess. I can provide a list of pages to redirect as there are a number of duplicate pages that will need removing. It probably makes sense to implement these other changes at the same time: Remove all of the canonical tags currently on the site. Leverage browser caching by following Google’s page speed recommendations - https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/LeverageBrowserCaching Losslessly compress all of the website’s images. Combine and minify the website’s JavaScript

Only homepage in Google
Hello SEOmozzers, A colleague of mine started up a site here: www.wikiboedel.nl. Sadly only the homepage is indexed in Google. It's a wordpress install. Robots.txt seems fine, all pages are on index and follow. Can't see why only the home is indexed in Google. Do you know whats going wrong? Please tell me. Tank you.

Content placment best for SEO?
We currently have a scroll bar box at the bottom of our page with information in but from what I can see scroll bar boxes at the bottom of websites looking a little spammy (a lot of over optimized websites using them) would we be best in using a strategy like this site www.solopress.com/ which implement a show more link that drops information down would this be read as good information for Google or look just as spammy?

Drupal SEO Question
Still trying to get a handle on all this...a lot to figure out! My site is Drupal and a few weeks ago I had my developer install an SEO Module so I could add a meta description and keywords for my pages. I have done that for the majority of the landing pages and the product pages as well. Earlier I posted a question about the use of adding the meta description and keywords to each product. The answers were mixed and pointed out the problem of the duplicate content which I am trying to figure out how to fix. BUT...when I went through my On Page Analysis grading for my campaigns one of the reasons my grades were low were because of the use of meta keywords tag. That the search engines ignore them and competitors can use them against you. So now I am thoroughly confused. I should optimize each product page with the meta description and keywords or i shouldn't? Keywords should show up in the title tag and the content....anywhere else? Help! Thanks much, Shara

Re-write homepage url for non EMD for SEO
Hi, A lot of talk about EMD's lately not just here but all over SEO and affiliate forums. I've dabbled in emd's but have decided to go against the grain and use a non emd. I think I can optimise hard enough to rank and at the same time build a brand, which is where most emd's fail. But my question is this: If you are targeting lets say the term 'running trainers' and the domain is runyoursocksoff.com would it be more beneficial to rewrite the root domain to this: runyoursocksoff.com/running-trainers/ It does look messy to me and more then likely I would not use this but I have seen it a few times and was wondering if its a work around for non emd's.
