Does having backlinks with anchor text keyword1 negatively effect SERP position for keyword2?

I have recently been gaining a lot of backlinks which have anchortext that is not exactly related to the keywords we are targeting. I have no control over the anchotext used in these backlinks in this situation.
Given that we already rank in a certain position for keyword2 based on the existing backlinks we have with keyword2 in them.
Will adding another say 50 high authority backlinks with anchortext keyword1 hurt our rankings for keyword2?
What i am trying to ask here, is can you dilute existing backlink keyword anchortext by gaining backlinks with different anchortext?

When gaining links I find it affective generating various link anchor text, not all defined for the specific term I am looking to be found for. This is so the links to a given page look more natural and so not to hit the Google fuse for over optimisation. We are all individuals, so we all link in different ways and thus it is far better to have a variation in anchor links. This rule can be used for follow and no-follow links too. All the links that come into one page should be of various types.

From my experience in watching the links accumulate on my own sites, I have arrived at the conclusion that link value accumulates for all anchor text variations. And, If I already have ranks for KW1 and a ton of links come in for KW2 there is a very good possibility that rankings for KW1 will go UP.

thanks for your reply. it has helped clarify the situation in my mind a little bit. i didn't really think about the whole trust issue before.
I guess i am still wondering a little bit how google decides what keywords you rank well (strictly from anchor text in backlinks, if for a moment we ignore onpage optimization)
It would seem to me that if you had 50 links that said keyword1 and you ranked in 3 place for that.
and then you got another 200 links for keyword2, wouldn't this make google think your website was more abiout keyword2 than keyword1 and drop your ranking for keyword1 to account for this?

I believe that "high authority" links will help you for any keyword that you are optimized for. I believe that backlinks pass anchor text value, they pass link popularity and some of them pass something more powerful and that is "trust". Just personal opinion. But I think that I am right.

If the Pope links to you, the Pope has linked. Does not matter if a few drunks add their link, you if the Pope's link is still there. Just opinion.

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

Getting backlinks on a page using https
Our company got a backlink on a page with high DA but using https (https://developer.apple.com/internationalization/) more than 2 months ago. However, this particular backlink was never counted by Open Site Explorer or other backlink checker. I've contacted the Moz Helpdesk and they said they are having issues crawling https sites. So I'm wondering if anything I can do to make sure this backlink gets counted? Thanks.

Backlinks from archived content? SEO penalty?
I'm curious, if I go to webmasters and suggest a change to an article in their archives (convincing them that the new link offers more value to their readers), how would Google look at that? It seems to me that if a two-year-old article all of a sudden gets a new link, it might look fishy, and might even bring penalties with it. Thoughts?

Over optimization of Anchor Text | Consequences, Guidelines, Precautions
Hi everyone. I am really worried because of the constant penguin and panda algorithms. I hired two or three SEO agencies and they did some link building for my pages a while ago. And just this time, our rankings dropped almost sitewide some 7-8 positions. I checked our link profile in this site , and we do not seem to have spammy links. I admit that we do have some low link quality, such as directories, blog posts, etc. And it seems to have 10-15 links with overoptimized anchor text, such as keyword exact anchor text, etc. I have a couple of questions regarding this matter? - What entitles an overoptimized anchor text? I mean, i can´t control people linking to me out there, and many of them used the product or brand name. Added to the fact that my former agency used article marketing links with exact keyword. - If i "overoptimized" my anchor text, what is the best solution?, I could change some anchor text by asking some people. Should i disavow, delete? What is your best bet here? - What is (May 27 2013) best practice for anchor text or link referall. I know it will keep changing, but i want to engage in the right practice right now. should link with www.domain.com/keywordpage.html, or how would one look natural? -I saw some recent links that are really strange to me. Could the competition be sending me some bad links in order to augment the situation. Is that something normal?, it sounds strange to me. Thanks for your valuable advice. I know many people are frustrated with these penalties and hits. Because there are still many sites with Mass EMDs, 3-page content, flash sites, that are ranking better than a high quality and engaging one. I know after the Panda update it seems that back linking is a no no but its hard to believe that its not still effective. What about paid links? Are there any trusted sites out there? Thoughts?

Building backlinks
Hello all! We regularly create articles for clients and post them (along with links to their Websites) on their blogs. We then promote the blog article across social media and other networks to create backlinks / authority for the articles. My question is whether anyone has had any success with an automated submission tool for the articles that delivers good results to "many" directories, social Websites and so on. Vary Anchor Text for your internal links?
Something I had been pondering with all the new updates and signals Google is looking at, and also considering the fact that many website's overdo internal linking and almost everyone uses exact match anchor text for it. So my question is - is it effect or counter-effective to vary your anchor text for internal links? If you think its effective, what is a reasonable proportion for exact anchor text match to varied ones.
