Basic skills for correcting and tweaking SEO issues
-
Is there an online resource that has good video tutorials for the basic skills someone would need to make code corrections for SEO related tasks? We would like to make use of some of our internal resources in slogging through some of the tasks of making the corrections. Is there a good training resource online to achieve this?

Thomas,
You've shown great enthusiasm in this reply. If you could keep to answering the actual question, however, it would really help keep the answer on topic for the original poster. Thanks!

I don't know how much knowledge your person that's going to be doing the fixing has on WordPress.
I do know that to fix the issues that are going to be brought up in Moz reports; you have a lot of information here. https://moz.com/academy & https://moz.com/learn/seo
My best advice is to check out https://distilled.net/u/
Yes it is something they might have to watch they can learn from reading, and doing on the site and skip to whatever topic they need to brush up on in order to fix the issue at hand
Check out https://www.distilled.net/u/interactive-html/ That is used one of many modules found in https://www.distilled.net/u/home/ Distilled University they have some fantastic tips for both search and HTML.
Distilled U will give you the basics on HTML that you need for search engine optimization, and I would say that is one of the best resources and possibly have.
But if you're doing search engine optimization and you want to learn about HTML, they are an excellent resource.
If you need help with SEO
There is also a company called Credo https://www.getcredo.com/ Both Moz & Rands new company Sparktoro, recommend credo it’s owned by John Doherty They can match you with the right person or agency.
You may also want to want to chat with John himself https://www.johnfdoherty.com is available to hire for consultation at his website look.
For the development side of WordPress
Is a fantastic resource for WordPress and PHP all website development if you combined the resources along with the resources you have here at Moz
Depending on the theme that you are using you could use information from companies such as woothemes.com or copyblogger.com studiopress.com
http://yoast.com covers almost 100% WordPress
http://www. performancefoundry.com/
It is a true WordPress Development expert and offers the ability people to call in, and you will walk them through the problem.
http://www.evolvingseo.com/services/consultant/
Another true WordPress and SEO expert is Dan Shure
he offers phone-based consulting as well.
I can tell you without a doubt he knows what he's talking about I just ran into him at Searchlove Boston a fantastic conference that is worth its weight in gold. Dan also has a series of videos with search and WordPress tips.
https://www.distilled.net/events/searchlove-boston/schedule/
I also offer similar consulting for WordPress and search engine optimization.
https://www.blueprintmarketing.com/contact/ You may also, of course, contact me here via my information on my photo.
I don't mean to sell you because everyone I've listed is fantastic because I love the subject are talking about I threw my hat in the ring.
One thing you can do that will save you a lot of money is using a managed WordPress hosting company.
By utilizing a company that specializes WordPress as well as hosting, you get access to people that have an extensive knowledge of WordPress.
I would recommend looking at Pagely.com Pantheon.io ,Presslabs.com ,Getflywheel.com WPengine.com Kinsta.com or Pressidium
The lowest cost starts at $15 a month with Getflywheel and is a great deal. The average cost is around $24 to $30 a month Pressidium offers a lot for $25 a month all of them have the ability to save you a lot of time and money with WordPress specific questions. One of the very best is PressLabs.com their prices start at $150 a month however they are extremely good answering any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Thomas

One more thought that might clarify better what I have in my mind...to your example Oleg - say we have a client website that is on Wordpress and we want to assign someone the task of fixing a series of specific issues uncovered with moz reports. Would be really nice to assign the task, here's what needs to be done to correct them, point them at a resource that shows them the steps to follow to carry out the task. In that scenario, they wouldn't necessarily need to go through a bunch of classes that teaches everything about PHP. They just need to know how to get to the file, open it, make the edit, save it and so forth. See what I mean?
-
In our case they would need access to information about various types of sites as needed - that's why I was thinking some training site, so there could be a variety. I was hoping for some paid resource we could subscribe to or something similar since the specific needs would vary from one situation to another.
I see thousands of sites that explain to business owners what they can do to enhance their sites, I'm really surprised the next step in that process isn't also in abundance. Once a person is told what to fix - seems there would be a series of resources that walk through the steps of exactly how to fix it - step by step. Well, it seemed like a good idea anyway...maybe there is no such resource. No easy button today

As Linda mentioned, you'd probably want HTML knowledge and know how to use FTP to access your files.
But unless you are only going to use a plain HTML site, you'd probably need to familiarize yourself with the language of the site. PHP is very commonly used and is what Wordpress is coded in (and if you do work with Wordpress, you need to learn how to modify themes)

Sort of as far as learning basics of HTML - I was thinking of a basic overview of how site structure works, how the web works along with the basic html that comes into play as far as SEO is concerned. Not looking to train someone to build an entire website, just give enough understanding so they can associate the whys along with the "how-to" drill downs of specific tasks. I did a search for such tools as well, there are dozens, actually more like thousands . I was interested in recommendations for some of them to sort out the quality. I certainly can't try them all.
For example: if a person was told to execute certain steps to fix duplicate content issues - that's one side of it. I would also like to have a resource that tells them precisely how to edit code - specifically. We have a mixed variety of talent and I think it would be valuable to have some of them learn these basics and fill in the parts they don't know. Does that make sense?
As it is, it's like having different chapters of a book sprinkled among different people - some know part of the story while others know different parts but none knows the whole story - or I guess in this case a good detailed outline of the whole story would be enough

I assume you are talking about learning basic html? Codecademy.com is good for this, but it is not in a video format.
Lynda.com has lots of videos, including one called "Optimizing your page for search engines" from "HTML essential training with Bill Weinman" (I know nothing about that video in particular-- I just did a search on the site).
Lynda.com costs money, but they do have a free trial you could take advantage of.

What is a good forum or resource to contact fellow SEO professionals for SEO partnership opportunities i.e. link trades?
While Moz is an excellent resource, i get the impression that it is for community-based SEO questions that can serve as a knowledge database. I am looking for a forum or resource where I can contact other SEO workers to explore link exchange opportunities. For example, i want to reach out to those who do SEO for audio/visual, technology, and event-planning companies so i can offer them links in exchange for some recommended links to my site. Before anyone dogs on link trading as being spammy and not best practice, it would only be done in a useful, relevant, and non-spammy fashion with other high authority sites. Thanks! Ryan

Two months into SEO and I have a few questions. Read on.
Hey Moz Community Basically, I have been suspended from my job in November (with pay) on railway. Since I have nothing to do. I came across SEO, and since then. these past two months I've been addicted! firstly, I read up on how to make money buying and selling exact match domains. I failed miserably! newbie error and I still have around 10 domains in my godaddy account 😕 Anyway, I came across moz and a few other sites i read -backlino & quicksprout. I decided to go down the root of just starting a blog on one of my domains based at the health and fitness niche, the sites alot like bodybuilding.com. So this site and SEO has kind of became my hobby as I learn. I am now a MOZ pro member and have my site on there getting weekly reports. I do alot of keyword research and I try my best to write posts on what I have researched and by using the yoast WP-pluging. I optimize my article/post. this week I had a report back from moz saying one of my keywords are #31 . So i put the term in google and go along to page 5 I think it was and there I see it. My post! yesterday I check again and its on page 3, then i see it on page 4, around a few hours later. it is back on page 5 and today. it is back on page 3?? Can somebody explain why it is doing this? Also, the keyword difficulty was 38% and theres over 3 million results for that term.. so to see it there in the top #51 was a shock, as all I have done is On page SEO. No social shares yet or Links pointing to the page. So does this mean with social shares and Links. this could easily end up on page 1? I have around 5 articles on the site so far.. all are around 1000 words each and are all optimized the same way but are not in the top #51 on google. one post has even had around 60 social shares and even flooded over 3000 visits in 2 days and still isn't ranking?? and My final long question is this.. I train at my gym and have mentioned to a few of the fellas about my new hobby and it's all I talk about. Then a week or two later, I have this Guy tap me on the shoulder as I'm working out and puts his hand out to shake mine. "hi I'm Tim. One of the lads mentioned to me that your learning SEO and your passionate about what you do". Anyway, too cut a massive story short. He told me he owns a catering company over here in the UK and really wants me to put what I'm learning into practice for his company. He's offered me a wage and commission if I start making sales through his site. Thing is I'm still new to all of this.. I said I will look at his site, his products and pick out low competition keywords. See what the keyword difficulty score is on moz, and create a blog - writing posts the same why I do on my fitness site... optimize the post, share through social networks etc, find who links to his competitors and reach out etc for links and do the broken link tactic to. Can you guys give me some advice? as i'm no big seo company. I'm also thinking of spending the next few days digging deep into google adwords and facebook ads. As I think getting traffic this way will also be good to start off with, even if it is paid. I know alot of you guys work or own an SEO company. So can you give me some points or link me to some good information on how I should do this process for my first, should I say Client? I know this Is one big Q&A.. but I'm trying to explain everything. Thanks Again. Carl

Good technical SEO resources for a newly hired front end dev who has no SEO experience
I am a SEO/product manager for a big online publisher. I work with several front end developers who have great technical and design skills, but zero SEO or social media knowledge. I end up answering a lot of SEO 101 questions and/or making them redo things with SEO and social media in mind. What are some good resources for them? I was already going to send them these SEOmoz links. http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/how-usability-experience-and-content-affect-search-engine-rankings Can anyone recommend other, more thorough, more technical reading and reference materials (print or online)?

Online SEO staff Tests
Hi, I've got a number of staff in the office that I am trying to get to learn SEO. I want to be able to test them on their ability and have already set them the SEOMOZ test: http://www.seomoz.org/seo-expert-quiz . Does anyone know of any other decent online SEO tests I can set them - I haven't really got the time to develop a test myself, so I am looking for some pre-build online testing. Thanks
