SEO frustration...is my website too busy?
-
My real estate website, www.RiverValleyGroup.com, is currently not ranked in the top-50 for any of the keywords that I am currently targeting. I am targeting keywords such as 'Louisville homes', 'homes for sale in Louisville KY', etc....I am starting to think maybe my site needs to be revamped? I'm fairly new to SEO and have no idea how to get on the 1st page of Google for targeted keywords. Please help!
-
I'm not the business owner and part of my position is to get our website positioned as high as possible but not sure how honestly. Would you care to elaborate on what's wrong with the site? I feel like something is wrong but not really sure what and would love to an expert's point of view.
-
Trying to give you an honest reply here.
This website has the potential to be an important source of business to your company.
There is nothing wrong with trying to learn what is needed to fix it yourself and moving forward slowly.
However, in my opinion, this website has a lot of problems and the effort that you are putting into blogging on it right now is a waste of time.
You can choose between these:
A) to continue slowly and waste a lot of time
B) hire a pro to get the site up and running quickly and put your time spent blogging to better use.
Option A is the more expensive of the two, because the lost time could have been spent making money.

Thank you for the helpful response EGOL (I thought I had responded on this post and didn't mean to create a duplicate post...apologies!)
1. So I attempted to clean up the title tags on nearly all of my pages...does it look better to you?
2. Do you feel the design of the website needs to be changed to help SEO?
3. Google Webmaster Tools says that structured data is not detected...is this hurting me SEO efforts?
-
EGOL nailed lots of points here so I will quickly go though it again before going further.
- The title tag is not optimized. You should have to have around 65 characters of a title that that also includes your targeted key terms. Also craft your title in such a way that it pleases humans and not bots only.
- Meta description tag is not optimized as well. May be Google no more look in to it but still you should use it as a way to increase CTR from organic search. My advice would be to re craft the Meta description tag that encourages real audience to click to the link and get in to your website for more.
- Keywords tag is present but I don’t think there is any need of this here. Bing might consider this as a signal so having few keywords that you are targeting on the page is a good idea.
- XML Site Map is also missing
- Website contain good amount of duplicated content so the advice here is to create a content that is unique, original and focus the targeted audience.
Few other things you can do to get to the first page of Google for your targeted key terms are:
- Get yourself register to Local Citations and Yellow pages with the consistent NAPs.
- Make sure you are not getting a link back to some lousy or irrelevant websites. If you are, then you have to clean it up or penguin might attack you.
- Get some quality links from different relevant websites.
Also, my advice here would be to look for a SEO consultant and get the audit done for your website. Once you will have the problems at the front of you, next thing you need to do is to fix the problems and see how your website is getting better it terms of rankings from your desired key phrases.
Hope this helps!

If you want to rank for "Louisville Homes". The very first step is to have a page on your website that has razor optimization for that query. You want it in the title tag, you want it in the
, and you want it on the page. Not a lot. Once each and maybe twice on the page.
You currently have two pages about Louisville. Their title tags are shotgunning... here is one of them.
<title></span><span>Louisville neighborhoods cities nearby counties | Shop for a Louisville house | find Louisville homes | city information on Louisville Ky homes | Louisville Ky house prices | Louisville Kentucky house | homes Louisville Kentucky | Louisville Ky houses for sale | Louisville Ky homes for sale | Homes for sale Louisville real estate |downtown Louisville condos | Highlands | Lake Forest | Polo Fields | Prospect Ky | Oldham County | Hurstbourne | Springhurst | Waterfront Park Place | Anchorage | Middletown | St Matthews| Florence Ky | New Albany Indiana homes for sale | Jeffersonville Indiana homes for sale | Ft Mitchell homes for sale | Fort Thomas homes for sale | Floyds Knobs homes for sale</span><span class="webkit-html-tag"></title>
Let's make that page a finely crafted arrow with a title tag something like..
<title>Louisville Homes from River Valley Group</title> or something similar.
================================
I would also decide if I need two websites. Here is another one... http://www.rivervalleyrealtygroup.com/
=================================
There is a lot of duplicate content on the site. Could be causing a panda problem. See here.
This is common on real estate sites but it does cause problems. Google sees lots of duplicates out there and refuses to show all of them in the search results.
==================================
You could have an unnatural links or a Penguin problem. The southernindianahomes.wordpress.com site is a platform that has tons of links pointing back at your main site. Looks manipulative. On the heidi site the left navigation, a huge one, is nothing more than links pointing back at your main site.
==================================
The site has waaaayyy too many pages. Google suggests 139,000 pages. These might be a lot of old listings with a lot of them being duplicated from many other websites. You might need a way to keep them out of the index and focus on original content for the properties that you control.
==================================
Because this site has a lot of opportunities for improvement, my suggestion is to hire an SEO who can do a review of SEO basics. But who also knows all about panda, penguin, unnatural links, duplicate content problems... and clean up the main site and the satellite sites so that you are not doing things that will cause problems with google. Google could be holding this site back for numerous reasons.
==================================
I only work on my own sites. Just letting you know that I am not recommending hiring someone because I am looking for work. The site has problems from basic basic level on up. What I saw above is just from a really quick look. Digging deeper will probably find a lot more.

If I want to update the title of a page on my website would that negatively impact SEO?
I want to update a few page titles on my website. Some are duplicate titles, and some titles are just too long. Will my website be negatively impacted at all if I update these? I read somewhere that once you have created a page you need to stick to the title you have given it. So I am not sure if I should leave these pages be and make note of utilizing better SEO practices for the future or if I can go back and edit them. Any insight is much appreciated!

International SEO Options?
Hi we currently have a site which is a example.com domain in the Australian market (we have geo-targeted to Australia within search console). We are looking to expand to United States. I have added the potential options down below, just wondering which one you guys think would be best from a SEO and practical standpoint? Or if there are other options i should consider? Option 1 The Australian domain is strong so this option takes this into consideration. Keep example.com (Australian) Add on: Sub-Directory for US Which would be: example.com/us/ In Search Console set the sub-folder to target US and also setup hreflang tags. Setup the US site on the sub-directory. Option 2 Add sub-folders for both Aus and US example/au/ (Australian)

example/us/ (United States) Setup hreflang targeting. Cons
Need to set up redirects for the current site to new location which is .com/au/ might also see drop in performance due to redirects. Cheers.0 -
Is Building a Local Directory of Businesses on a Subdomain Good SEO?
Hello Fellow Moz'ers: I own a small digital shop in a major US city. We had a marketing idea which I'd like some input on the soundness of. We are creating a professional services directory of 'digital professional services providers' in our hometown. The directory's membership will only be open to firms located within our city limits. The directory will be curated and maintained, ongoing, by us. Our motivation is 75% selfish and 25% benevolent. The idea is that, by building the directory on our subdomain, we hopefully will collect links, which ultimately will enhance search visibility. But I'm concerned about the devaluation directories have incurred in recent years and I've even seen advice given to the effect that listings in some directories might be harmful to a site's link profile. It is not our intention to harm those who might list in our directory. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Website not properly listed on google organic despite SEO efforts
Hello, I have worked thoroughly on my website tags including HTML titles, URLs, H1 headers and text on each section. The problem is that despite this effort, my website does not seem to improve in terms of ranking (the onsite optimization has been done 6 months ago already). We have a sitemap, we have done link building and everything but still no tangible progress. The anomaly I am experiencing is the following: If I search on Google.com.lb for "aparment for sale in lebanon" I don't get the section on my website that is optimized for that particular query (which is the Buy section located here http://www.ramcolb.com/apartment-sale-beirut-lebanon). my site appears only on page 6 but the Homepage appears which is very counter intuitive because it is not optimized for the "apartment for sale in Lebanon" keyword. And this anomaly is present on almost all sections and their relevant queries. The relevant section for the particular query never appears, it is always another irrelevant section that appears but far in the listings (beyond page 6). It is as if Google hasn't indexed properly my website and is mixing up the sections... Has anyone experienced this type of problems? what can be done? Thanks in advance

Website not being indexed after relocation
I have a scenario where a 'draft' website was built using Google Sites, and published using a Google Sites sub domain. Consequently, the 'same' website was rebuilt and published on its own domain. So effectively there were two sites, both more or less identical, with identical content. The first website was thoroughly indexed by Google. The second website has not been indexed at all - I am assuming for the obvious reasons ie. that Google is viewing it as an obvious rip-off of the first site / duplicate content etc. I was reluctant to take down the first website until I had found an effective way to resolve this issue long-term => ensuring that in future Google would index the second 'proper' site. A permanent 301 redirect was put forward as a solution - however, believe it or not, the Google Sites platform has no facility for implementing this. For lack of an alternative solution I have gone ahead and taken down the first site. I understand that this may take some time to drop out of Google's index, however, and I am merely hoping that eventually the second site will be picked up in the index. I would sincerely appreciate an advice or recommendations on the best course of action - if any! - I can take from here. Many thanks! Matt.

SEO from links in frames?
A site was considering linking to us. Their web page is delivered entirely via frames. Humans can see the links on the page, but it's not visible in source. I'm guessing it means Google can't detect the links, and there is no SEO effect, but I wanted to confirm. Here's the site: http://www.uofc-ulsa.tk/ Example links are the Princeton Review and Kaplan on the right sidebar. Here's the source code: view-source:http://www.uofc-ulsa.tk/ Do those links have any SEO impact?

SEO Link on Clients Site
Hey SEOMozzers, Quick question. In light of the possible 'over-optimisation' penalties pending from Google should we be looking to remove the SEO links to our site from our Clients websites? I appreciate that including a link to our site from an anchor text that includes 'SEO' in it may be like waving a flag to Search Engines saying we are carrying out SEO on our Clients sites. Obviously we would sooner risk a drop in our SEO keyword rankings than risk a penalty of any kind for our Clients. What is the recommended practice here?

Redirecting multiple websites to a single website
I've been trying to run several truck accessory affiliate websites for a quite a while now. I've recently decided to combine all of my affiliate websites into a single community website. This way I'll be able to focus all my energy and link building into a single place and build up a single brand. My question is, how many websites do I try to redirect to the new website at a time? Do I need to spread this out? Or is it ok if I move all of my content and websites at a single time? I have around 30 websites that I could move to this new domain. Thanks! Andy
