YouTube hosting question
-
The "How it works" video that is embedded on my sites homepage is currently linked to an individual YouTube account not our company account.
I would like to change the ownership so that the company profile can enjoy the added views (currently 13K +). Is there a way to move the video to a different account without losing the views it has already accumulated?
Also, a related technical question - our R&D team says the video is slowing down the site. It links to YouTube but there is nothing in the source of our page about YouTube. Any suggestions for embedding it more effectively?
-
No, you can't migrate the video.
in terms of embedding - an iframe is super lightweight. Just embed a YouTube iframe and you should be fine.

I agree with Moosa I think you can probably move your account without losing the views however I would not understand why you would want to move it but regardless. I think a great tool for what Moosa he is talking about with the JavaScript is feed the bot's page speed if you follow instructions in this you can optimize your site for speed and see some pretty dramatic changes.

I think YouTube is very slow unfortunately even though it is an extremely powerful platform video is bandwidth hungry and without looking at your URL I could not tell you if I believed that your video embeds were slowing down the site however I doubt it. Sorry for the long post but this I think is relevant to your question regarding Site speed and video hosting.
as far is changing the ownership of your YouTube account I do believe that your views follow your videos to a new account.
I do not believe there is a way to move your videos to a different account without losing the shown views however if they are doing this well anyway you can move it to a video host like Wistia and simply let your customers know on YouTube that your new videos are at the link below the video you once had hosted on YouTube.
In Wistia you can show the amount of view's you may even want to talk to the company and explain your situation they may simply give you the credit for their views on YouTube on their service.
I do not know if you want to get traffic to your website or not but I would look at Wistia.com for the reasons described here
http://wistia.com/learning/advanced-seo-with-distilled
on top of that if you are doing things that teach people how to do things related to your business a good example would be whiteboard Friday and that is spoken about right here

definitely check out your sites weaknesses and strengths using the tools below.
You may also want to buy screaming frog SEO spider this will allow you to check for multiple problems but before you spend money on that in less you need it for something else definitely use these free tools below specially Google pageSpeed
http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
http://www.feedthebot.com/pagespeed/
http://www.feedthebot.com/tools/
you might just need to add a content delivery network or have your site audited use real user measurement to determine how slow your site really is Neustar , CopperEgg NewRelic & Pingdom are excellent for this purpose.
As far as speed up your existing infrastructure if you are happy where you are I would look at edge cast, Max CDN, cloud proxy and cloud flare though I do not think very highly of the last offer cloud flare.
I do not want to say it is not possible, but it sounds to me like you have an issue with their coding or with your hosting company.
Are you on a shared server? If so look at faster servers. If you want managed I like firehost.com their fast and they are safe There also around USD400 a month if you want to spend less than USD50 and get very fast hosting
check out speedy rails or Linode
https://www.speedyrails.com/ starting at USD15 a month for a VPS with SSD's and edge cast CDN that is a pretty sweet deal. There also throwing in DynECT DNS and all of this out of Peer1 data centers.
https://www.linode.com/ now has amazing SSD's
If you do not want to spend much money at all no worries you can get into a very fast host for under five dollars today
now if you do not care about managed hosting you can get excellent speed and service from both of these companies for prices starting literally under five dollars per a SSD VPS
here are a couple others of all types of prices that I know are good.
If you want managed hosting and a VPS will do these are in the $50 up range
http://www.servint.net/ssd-vps-about.php
https://www.linode.com/managed note this company was provided above as well they have both non-managed and unmanaged
http://www.liquidweb.com/StormServers/ssd.html
http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/servers/
if you want what I think is the best then take a look at fire host
I hope this answer was what you were looking for. I Tried to touch on everything with out knowing if you are talking about moving off of YouTube or not hopefully this is helpful to you.

I don’t think there is any way you can shift the video to a different account without losing the videos and shares on that video. I am not really an expert but doing this does not make any sense to me!
As far as embedded code is concern, if you are using the one that is available on Youtube, the website should not slow down as the video is not hosted on your website. My advice would be to check some other JS in the header or on the page and see if you can optimize them as this usually cause a delay in page load time.
Hope this helps!
Again, I never played with videos much so my comment can’t be considered as expert opinion.

New Subdomain SEO questions
I have a main site - mysite.com. I just created a subdomain - leadform.mysite.com I plan to use the leadform.mysite.com as a 1 page lead form only. I will link to leadform.mysite.com from mysite.com and also from other websites I own (myothersite.com etc.) - filtering all traffic to this form to capture leads. (Note - the leadform.mysite.com has CNAME to other server that hosts the backend of the form) My questions are: How should I link from mysite.com to leadform.mysite.com? With dofollow or nofollow? (mysite.com has 1000's of pages and would link from every page with "get a quote' type button) 2) How should I link from myothersite.com to leadform.mysite.com? With dofollow or nofollow? Any SEO risk linking to leadform.mysite.com from an outside domain? (myothersite.com has 1000's of pages and would link from every page with "get a quote' type button) Does it make sense to build links from outside sites to leadform.mysite.com directly to try to get that lead capture page to rank on it's own? 4) Does it make sense to link back from leadform.mysite.com back to mysite.com for seo value? With dofollow or nofollow? Thanks in advance for any help.

Merging two sites to one Rel Can Question
Hi All, We have 2 brands (1 main 1 product as a satellite domain) that we're merging into our main brand. When doing a 301 redirect - should we redirect everypage of the product satellite to the new site or is 1 main redirect fine? I'm Confusing ....yep. Ill do an E.G www.nike.com & www.air-jordan.com we are now shutting down www.airjordan.com and will be migrating all the content to www.nike.com/air-jordan Just of course there will be other pages like air-jordan.com/order-now . Should i do a rel can from air-jordan.com/order-now to www.nike.com/air-jordan/order-now ? Or is simply a 301 from www.airjordan.com to www.nike.com/air-jordan sufficient? Cheers!

Questions on Google Penguin Clean-up Strategy
Hello Moz Community! I was hit with a REAL bad penalty in May 2013, and the date corresponds to Penguin #4. Never received a manual spam action, but the 50% drop in traffic was very apparent. Since then, I've had a slow reduction in traffic, to where I am today... which is almost baseline. Increases in traffic have not occurred regardless of efforts. In researching a little more, I see that my old SEO companies built my links with exact keyterm matches, many of them repeated over and over, verbatim, on different sites. I've heard two pieces of advice that I don't like 1) scrap the site, or 2) disavow all the links. I would rather see if I can get the webmasters to change the link to something generic, or my brand name, before I do either of these. To scrap my site and start new will be damn near impossible because I'm in an extremely competitive niche, and my site has age (since 2007), so rather work with what I have. A couple of questions, for folks who are in the know about this penalty, if I may: This penguin update, #4, on May 22nd, was it ONLY because of the link text? Or was it also because of the link quality? None of the updates before it harmed me, and I believe those were because of the quality? Could it be for links linking from my blog to my site? My blog (ex. www.mysite.com/blog), has close to 1,000 blog posts, and back in the days I would write these really long, keyword stuffed links leading to www.mysite.com. I've been in the process of cleaning these up, and shortening them, and changing them to more generic (click here's), but it is a LONG and painstaking process. If I get webmasters to change text to just the url or brand name, that's better than disavowing, correct? As long the linking site has a decent spam score and PA/DA on OSE? Is having SOME exact anchor text okay on these links? Is it just the abuse that's the problem? If so, how many should I leave? (like 5 max per keyword?) Or should I just change to the url, or disavow altogether, any and all links that have exact keyword matches? I've downloaded my link profile from OSE and Majestic, and will do so from Ahrefs (I believe it is)? Does Webmaster Tools have any section that can help give me insights into the issue? If so, can you point me in the right direction? Can I get partial credit, for some work done? For instance, say a major update, or crawl, happens, and I've only fixed/disavowed 25% percent of the links by then, is there a possibility that I get a small boost in traffic? Or am I in the doghouse till they are all fixed? Say I clean/disavow everything up, will my improvement be seen in the next crawl? Or the next Penguin update? As there may be a substantial difference in time there. 😎 I see AHREFS, has some information on anchor text... any rules of thumb as to percentages of use of a certain anchor text, to see if I'm abusing or not, before I start undertaking all of this? Thanks! Could the penalty have "passed" altogether, and this is just where I rank? Thanks guys, but the last thing I want to do is ditch my site... I will work hard on this, but need some guidance. Much appreciated! David

Question about Syntax in Robots.txt
So if I want to block any URL from being indexed that contains a particular parameter what is the best way to put this in the robots.txt file? Currently I have-
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DRSearchEngOpt
Disallow: /attachment_id Where "attachment_id" is the parameter. Problem is I still see these URL's indexed and this has been in the robots now for over a month. I am wondering if I should just do Disallow: attachment_id or Disallow: attachment_id= but figured I would ask you guys first. Thanks!0 -
Question on Moving Content
I just moved my site from a Wordpress hosted site to Squarespace. We have the same domain, however, the content is now located on a different URL (again, same base domain). I'm unable to easily set up 301 redirects for the old content to be mapped to the new content so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a workaround. Basically, I want to make sure google knows that Product A's page is now located at this new URL. (www.domain.com/11245 > www.domain.com/product-a). Maybe it's something that I don't have to worry about anymore because the old content is gone? I mean, I have a global redirect set up that no matter what you enter after the base domain, it now goes to the homepage but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something here. Really appreciate your help!

The content will differ but the structure / templates will be similar across both sites. Any recommendations or suggested reading to ensure both sites appear in Search? Many thanks in advance!
