Is Link Earning the same as Blogger Outreach?
-
Hello all - is there a difference between link earning (from Rand's WBF post) and blogger outreach?
Little confused

Would you still recommend traditional link building, or do you think that this is now redundant?
Over the past seven years I have spent a total of about two hours on linkbuilding. I have not hired anyone to do it and my employees have done none.
Instead, that time and that money goes straight into content. That gives me more content to appear in the SERPs.
I do use share, bookmark, email, etc buttons and lots of my visitors use them. My goal is to have good enough content that my visitors do the promotion for me.
I believe that doing some linkbuilding would move my rankings faster.. but I don't like asking people to do things for me.

It's all about earning the link these days (PR is an important part of that), and you need a balance of approaches too. What amazes me is how many SEO agencies still offer old-style link building services (I spend half my life clearing up the mess they've left behind them - ugh!).
Also, see this on guest blogging: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/guest-blogging/

Thanks both, very interesting takes.
Would you still recommend traditional link building, or do you think that this is now redundant?
Cheers!

One issue that keeps arising at the mo is the mixing of paid and unpaid content by bloggers. Keep an eye on that. I always ask bloggers whether they take sponsored posts. If they do, I check whether their sponsored posts carry nofollow tags on backlinks, which they should. If sponsored posts carry follow backlinks rather than nofollow backlinks, I go elsewhere.

Link earning and blogger outreach are parts of the same process.
Think of "link earning" as building assets for your website that will attract visitors. These assets could be interesting articles, valuable databases, useful tools, active forums, informative news. Keep in mind that articles, databases, tools, forums and news will not be link-earning assets unless they have those adjectives of interesting, valuable, useful, active, informative. Just because you have something on your site does not make it a link earner.
The outreach part is contacting bloggers who will value some of your assets and like them enough to say something about them.
Popular bloggers get contacted a lot. Lots of weasels, idiots and moochers are trying to get them to do something. If you have interesting, valuable, useful, active, informative assets your chances of getting them to help you are small.... but if your assets don't have those adjectives then you are just another weasel, idiot or moocher.

Are Social Links on Home Page Good for SEO
Hi, I have removed the Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and G+ links from the top of our home page so as to try and stop users leaving the page. Is this bad for SEO? Thanks

Blogger vs wordpress from SEO perspective
Blogger is under the google umbrella and of course will be in line with google's strategic moves in the future. That includes commenting with google plus accounts and any future integrations. (google plus will HUGE in the future when it comes to SEO)currently there is no way to host blogger on your own servers, which means all your images and video are not really yours from an SEO perspective. Wordpress however does not have as much technical restrictions, but eventually it will be a major competitor to blogger. You can host it on your own servers as well. So from an SEO perspective which one is better?

Social data for links
Hey can anyone recommend a tools out there, which can look at a list of urls (over 20+) and it will show the social stats for each url (e.g. number of Facebook Shares, Tweets, etc)? Or a tool which searchers within a certain category or niche (might be based on the keyword you entered), and finds the most shared content? Cheers, Chris

How To Use Followerwonk and Twitter for outreach link building
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with how to use follower wonk and twitter for outreach link building and offer any strategies. I'm using the following method but perhaps there are more efficient ways of doing it or other software that can aid the process. As I understand it it's a case of searching bios on followerwonk based on keywords and at the minute I'm selecting targets by social authority. (Is that the best metric or the there another one that's better?). I'm basically then following users in my niche and hoping that they follow me back. Those that do I'm then visiting their website based on the url in their twitter bio and running it through OSE to check the domain authority to see if the site authority is high enough to warrant listing them as a potential link target. If so I'm communicating with them by sharing their content, mentioning them or direct messaging them complimenting them on an article or such like. My aim is to build a relationship and eventually achieve a guest post or backlink somehow. Is this how the process should work?

How does Google handle URL shortening, do they pass link juice?
When I'm Social Book marking my websites I use a url shortening service such as bitly.com or onlywire.com. Do these services transfer link juice in the same ways as a direct link would do?
