Yahoo Local Basic Listing Verifications Failing
-
Hey everyone,
Over the last few weeks Yahoo Local's Basic Listings have been failing left and right for me. When working to verify a business listing, I have been trying the phone, snail mail and email verifications specifically, and am 100% sure I've been inputting the correct code, yet no matter how many attempts I make, I get the following error:

This is for multiple accounts, not just a single instance. Seems Yahoo's just got an unfixed, prevalent bug. I've reached out to their Support for information, but they have been unresponsive.
Anyone else running into this issue?

We're actually in the middle of this problem and found a work around. If you get the invalid pin message:
- Login to your Yahoo biz dashboard, navigate to your client's listing and click edit.
- Make a quick edit (doesn't matter if you change it back before hitting submit).
- After hitting submit, it should take you right to the verification screen to either a) send a new pin, or b) enter your pin.
- Use the PIN you already received to verify the listing.
We've done this a couple times already, and it seems to be working.

I have been trying also to verify a business. I have had the give me a PIN 3 times to no avail. Each time I recieve a "The verification code you submitted was incorrect. Please enter the correct verification code." message. I have tried to copy and paste the pin as well as manually enter it. I have also tried logging out and back in. Nothing works and I'm getting frustrated as heck with their obvious glitches. To make things worse I read that yahoo won't provide support to their free listing service. What a scam.

Have only tried phone call verification, but experiencing same issue and error message. This happened on 6/11/14. Several clients, different accounts, same error message that the verification code is incorrect. Opted to use postcard method. Not expecting different results but wanted to at least try.
This has happened in the past with Yahoo. We've had postcard PINs repeatedly declined as "incorrect." This was around the time they were making changes to the Local Directory. Another problem we experienced during this time was that listings were not being saved under the dashboard. So every time we tried to claim a listing we had to go through the process of identifying and editing it.
There is definitely a strong correlation between Yahoo updates and Yahoo services being inoperable during these times.

Hi Jackson,
Glad to hear that. I do hope others will comment if they're having problems with Yahoo Local verification. Posts like yours make we wonder about bugs.

Thank you for the response, Miriam, that's very helpful!

Hi Jackson,
While I do see people reporting recent verification problems (https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130519195150AAFcNr8) I don't see anything about your specific error message anyplace I would normally look.
If you can't get the phone support to help you, a possible workaround is to ensure that you clients are listed on Yelp as Yelp is now distributing listings and reviews to Yahoo! Local. Here's more on this:

I wonder if Yahoo is having wonky issues as of this new deal with Yelp. I haven't had a chance to test this, but I believe it should work out if the client is listed on Yelp that they will eventually appear on Yahoo! Kind of early days on this.
If anyone else in the community is experiencing the problem Jackson is describing, please chime in!

SERP Business Listing
Hello, While searching on mobile I was testing keywords to see if my business listing would appear. I noticed for certain keywords it would trigger a competitors business to come up in the knowledge panel. I'm running adwords so my business typically always appears in the top ad panel but my business listing isn't recognized for particular keywords. Is there any reason why a competitors business listing would appear in the SERP over our business? It seems random. Is there maybe something I could add on the google business listing? Does anyone have any tips for this? Thanks!

Google is indexing pages but they do not list on a brand search
One of my websites does not display sitelinks when using a branded search on mobile. Desktop , it is fine. Moz tells me I have no crawl issues. What could be reason for sitelinks not showing on mobile? Any thoughts?

GMB Listing Radius for Areas Served
I know with the google my business listing that if you have someone provides services at a customer home you can include the radius or specific cities. I just came across a listing that seems to have a different way of showing this on the map - https://goo.gl/maps/f1xgEvYnPqF2. Does anyone know how this is possible?

Website with higher domain authority and good content not ranking locally?
I've got a client that has a higher domain authority than top ranking sites, is pretty well optimized from a content perspective, has good local reviews but still isn't ranking well at all... often not at all in local results. We don't show in map pack or even regular organic listings in a pretty small city. They are a local sign shop- so they make business signs/church signs etc. Have you seen anything negatively impacting local rankings that is worth digging into as possible cause? A few historical insights: They had some spammy backlinks (we think a competitor was being shady) that I've sent disavow files into Google for They had a previous SEO person create 100's of orphan pages for every possible city + offering combination you can think of- I've cleaned those up via 301 redirects Should I just keep waiting, doing content optimization or am I missing something else?

Transferring ownership of a listing and renaming it - what can happen?
Hi All, We have a local business with multiple store fronts. We've recently bought a competitors store front, that store front has a local Google listing. We would like to do 2 things: 1. Transfer the ownership of the listing from their accounts to ours. 2. Renaming and re-branding the listing (and of course the office) My questions is, what can happen once we do that? Transferring the ownership is a simple task as i've seen it on Googles guidelines so is renaming it (technically speaking). Will this affect the listing itself? Rankings/Verification and anything else that may come up? Thanks a lot for the answers!

Local search results question
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. I have a client who is based outside the main city that he is wanting to rank in. The address on his website is his own home which is about 20 miles from the city. However, he services the city and the surrounding area. His ranking for the very competitive keyword is on page 2 and won't budge. We have made his Google+ page show the servicing area to include the city. We add new content regularly. The onsite SEO is strong and the city name is in the Title and H1 tags. We have lots of local consistent citations for him. This usually results in movement in the SERPS in my experience. But after 3 months this keyword is stuck whilst his other less competitive keywords are moving up. He is ranking 1st for the local area to his home address for the competitive keyword. So my question is - is this purely a result of his local address. Does Google rate him less local than his competitors who have addresses in the city even after we do a lot of citation building etc for him? Will it be possible to rank him for the city? I know 3 months isn't long but still would expect to see some difference. Anyone got any thoughts?

Google Places - not physical location, but listed as we are (e-commerce)
Hello Mozzers, We have specific situation with google places. We are e-commerce store but google display us as local business where people can come in. (with directions button). This creates problems for us, since we do not want and we are not setup to receive customers. On our website there is address in the footer and also we have About Us page with the address (this is the address of facility from where online orders are shipped.) - is this a problem and is google concluded that we are physical store because of this? Is there any way to change this or we should contact google directly and explain the situation? And if we should contact google, is there any risk involved? (like: why you have the address on site when you are not physical store? ) Thank you, Nenad
