Can I target one keyword with 2~3 pages?
-
Since my website is targeting a very specific field, there are not many widely searched keywords. So I'm thinking of targeting one keyword with 2~3 pages.
1. I've read Neil Patel's blog post on how to create dual rankings to make your search listings stand out on Google. So I assume it's okay to target one keyword with several pages.
(http://www.quicksprout.com/2012/07/30/4-steps-to-making-your-search-listings-stand-out-on-google/ Step #2 Create Dual Rankings)
2. But I've also read things on Keyword Cannibalism saying that if you target one keyword with several pages, they will compete with each other, and Google will get confused.
I'm wondering, is it okay to target one keyword with 2~3 pages? And is there any smart way to do it ?
Thanks.

There are a couple of thoughts that I have regarding this question and the reference you made to Neil's post, so I will try to organize my thoughts here for you:
- First, unless you are the food network... recognize that you probably don't have the DA or authority that the food network has.
- In his post, the Food Network did not attempt to rank both of those posts for the term "cooking". Google has gained an understanding of both of those pages with a relation to the term "cooking". Some of that would have been through on-site SEO, but a large portion of that would have been through links, social signals, DA, PA, etc... It isn't simply about optimizing 2 pages for the term "cooking".
- If you attempt to optimize two or more pages for the exact same keyword around the same keyword, you run the risk of self-canibalization. Read/watch more here: http://moz.com/blog/keyword-targeting-density-and-cannibalization-whiteboard-friday
What I would suggest is that either your website, or a category should represent the broad keyword/phrase/theme, and then let it's subcategories target other variations of that theme and how others may search it. For example, lets say I wanted to create a campaign around Rubics Cubes (I'm on a mission to solve one right now), perhaps I could create supporting pages that target supporting themes such as "how to solve a rubics cube", and "where to buy a rubics cube", or "Amazing rubics cube videos"...etc. The point is that you become a resource for Rubics Cubes, not just a page that ranks for that term. Be the end all be all for people looking for rubics cubes, and have your site hierarchically organized to help point all of those rubics cube related resources point to the main rubics cube page.
Now, back to neil's point, if you created a fascinating resource for rubics cubes that developed shares, links, and buzz, it is very possible that you could gain 2 listings on the first page of google, but they have to be amazing.
Hope this helps !
(I'm going to solve my rubics cube)

Unsolved Should I combine pages?
Hi, Im not sure of the correct route to take here... We are a training provider and I manage the website. The main course offered is the transport manager CPC. Currently, I have a "catch all" landing page which links to each different course option: Landing page > Classroom Online Self study Distance learning The main keyword revolves around "transport manager cpc" I want searchers to land on the online page is they search "online transport manager CPC" for example but I think its confusing Google. I'm wondering if I should de-index the store pages (although some perform very well) and increase the content on the main landing page to rank for every related keyword on that page. Initially, I wanted to devalue the landing page in favor of the store pages but I'm unsure if that's the right way to go. I've stripped out the bulk of the keywords and content and shifted it to each individual page. but as above, Im now unsure if that's the right route to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👍 Thanks

Ranking keywords
Is there a way to utilize our currently ranking keywords. I don't think editing the url would be a good idea. What areas of these pages should we improve? Or is it better not to do anything.

How can a page rank for keywords that it does not have on it?
I have a client that is ranking in the top 10 for several keywords on their homepage. Their site has no purposeful SEO in it, there is barely any text on the homepage at all and none of the text are the keywords it is ranking for.

Does the position of your main keyword phrase matter within the page?
The addition of a new grid type navigation within the body of our page could mean that the keyword phrase the page is optimized for could be pushed below the fold. Is this a bad thing?

Too many links per page? Double navigation on every page...
I have a client with navigation across the top of each page plus the same nav links in a sidebar on every page. Can that duplication (or the sheer number of links) on each page have a negative ranking factor?

Is it difficult to rank for a keyword phrase with an H2 halfway down the page?
If your competitor has a page that is optimized for a keyword (title tag, URL, content) and you target the keyword halfway down a page with an H2 and a short paragraph about the keyword, are you at a strong disadvantage?

SEO for One Page Websites
Hi Are there any SEO guidelines for "one page websites". I'm looking into the 'benefit' it might have in combination with exact match URLs. Many thanks in advance.
