AdWords quality score of landing pages and subdomains popularity
-
Hello,
I have an AdWords account whose landing pages point to (i.e.) http://www.domain.com/landing01.php
I've been using this account for ages, it has a good score and history, so I want to keep it.
The first question is: may I use landing pages on different subdomains within the same AdWords account (and in the same root domain)?
I.E. (http://cheese.domain.com/landing01.php and http://wine.domain.com/landing02.php)
2nd question: the www subdomain has good subdomain metrics (authority /trust and, generally, links) while the "cheese" subdomain has not (no backlinks at all).
Do I get any benefit in Adwords (like quality score or other) if I publish my landing pages under a subdomain with better subdomain metrics (or number of links)? Or should I just go with http://cheese.domain.com even it has no authority at all?
Thank you,
DoMiSoL Rossini

My experience backs up David's opinion. Google doesn't care if your NASA if you're trying to sell cheese & crackers. Since that's not what users are searching for it's not advantageous for Google to show people NASA ads. No one really wants astronaut cheese anyway (wait... is that string cheese? maybe they do)
Auction bids & quality score are based heavily on estimated click through rate, landing page experience, ad relevance, and ad formats. LP Experience can be measured in several ways and Google has always been really keen to keep that information under lock & key. There are theories that they look at time on site, bounce back rate, click through rate, conversion rates, etc. But there's no real answer - except that I am very confident that the specific page's authority is not a heavily weighted factor.
I know you came here for a customized response that's more in depth than static information on the web, but I'm going to direct you to this video anyway because it's seriously informative http://searchengineland.com/google-new-adwords-ad-rank-video-195049
It's legit. I see this happen every day.
There are many theories behind what goes into landing page relevance, but the authority of that page is insignificant. Thousands of companies use PPC specific landing pages that are excluded from robots.txt and have high QS.
I understand that 10% can make a huge difference when you're on the cusp of getting to an 8, 9, or 10, but overall there is more you will be able to do in the account that will impact QS than what you can do with your landing page. (that's not to say that CRO isn't beneficial, but that's CRO, not QSO - quality score optimisation)
I'd rather guide you in the direction of your negative keywords and keyword grouping techniques. the more specific your keywords are to your copy to your landing page the higher quality score you will receive. Note: I said specific. "Cheese" as a head term is not a specific query... "11 in bamboo cheese board" is a very specific query.
Got a little side tracked there. Hope this information is still useful to you!

Thats hard to answer - i personally dont believe the landing page authority etc plays any roll in bid price. I think campaign performance is all that matters not the domain its on but jasmin may be able to answer better.

Thank you David and JasmineA, because you've made me think, and I'd like to rephrase my question as it follows:
Do the so called "off-site factors" affect Quality Score in Adwords (which affects Cost Per Click) ?
Will I spend one cent less per click if I'd publish my same landing page under the NASA home page (rather than my ordinary domain site) ?
I know landing pages only play a small part in the QS system but even 10% could make a huge difference.
And yes, JasmineA, I have reasons discouraging me from publishing the landing pages under the www subdomain.
Thank you all again.

As far as Google reports, there is no connection between links a page receives, what domain it's held on, and how the URL is constructed. You can definitely go with cheese.domain in the same campaign if that's where it's located --- I'm sure there are other SEO specific reasons that you wouldn't want to have a subdomain but I'm not that knowledgeable about them
-
You can run multiple subdomains from one account using different campaigns
- should not affect you to much just go with http://cheese.domain.com

How to Tell Google About My Near Duplicate Pages?
For my Adwords campaign, I create a separate landing page for each Ad Group, but are similar enough to one another that they may be considered duplicate content. Should I use a canonical tag on the page to tell Google which page is priority? I don't care about any of those pages ranking in search, I'm just using them for my ads. I also don't want to redirect, clearly. Is the canonical tag the correct way to go?

Yellow Pages advertising and ad sources
From experience I've always been telling clients of mine to stay from Yellow Pages advertising. It has been several years now and it seems that Yellow Pages not only offers just priority listings but also SEO and their own version of Adwords it seems. I received a call from a Yellow Pages sales rep today saying they can promise me 50k impression views for $500/month which is a campaign managed by them and they'll even create the ads as well. When I questioned them on their 9 million sources they have for generating these impressions, if these impressions are local or national they mentioned it works like Adsense in a way. I eventually declined their offer and figured I'd do some research. If I were to create an Adwords Display campaign with that kinda of budget and do it locally by my city, Adwords forecasts are no where near that kind of impression count, expanding the campaign out to all of Ontario would be closer but still not quite that high an impression count. I'm assuming YP doesn't have as large of a network compared to Google either which also makes me more doubtful. What I would really like to know is has anyone had any success with YP advertising compared to Adwords recently especially with their high costs for such services? And does anyone know where exactly YP, Google Adwords, Bing Ads get their web partners and sources from? I know there are ad revenue agencies like Metroland that sell their ad sources to such companies and was curious.

Broad Match Modifier - Adwords Experts
Hi All, Looking for a little feedback from anyone running/managing ppc campaigns. I'm trying to decide if Broad Match Modifier search terms are actually helping. I see many instances where they have a low quality score, high cpc and low CTR. This leads to me think that these terms are actually bringing all my other ads down due to these negative signs. I have most search terms as "Phrase Match" and [Exact Match] so i'm not sure why i need the Broad Match + Modifier terms as well. Looking for some advice from the experts ... Do you guys agree with my assessment and what is your overall opinion on the usefulness of Broad Match Modifier terms. Thanks

Does anyone know if there are any adwords guideline restrictions against naming a product with the term "Clinically Proven?"
If you do a search for something like "protein powder" there are the sponsored ads where you can shop. Does anyone know if there are any guidelines against naming a product with "Clinically Proven." For example, "Clinically Proven Protein Powder." Any guidance, insight, or links helping to answer this question would be appreciated.

Trademarked words in in Google Adwords ads - Why do competitors get to use them?
Hi, The keyword I want to use in my ad is trademarked, so they disqualified my ad. The trademark was specifically cited as the reasoning. I tried this across maybe 5 different ads. All disqualified The thing I don't understand is that there are like 10 other advertisers who are actively using this "trademarked" word in their ads. It's not like 1 scooted past Google, there's a ton of advertisers doing it. So how do I get past them or were they grandfathered in or something? FYI... I tried dynamic insert to see if that could my "trademarked" word in the back door, but no luck. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Google Adwords Clicks v.s. Google Analytics Visits
Hi Guys, This question has been asked several times before but after doing some research, I haven't really found the right solution and/or explanation. I'm currently seeing a 30-50% discrepancy in Adwords Clicks and Analytics Visits, where there are more clicks than visits in most situations. E.g. 74,127 clicks v.s. 46,845 visits (34 add-to-carts, 67 initiated orders, and a revenue of $12,000). Can anybody in the forum help explain this? Thank you, Jurgen P.S. I've also looked at all the tracking codes and everything seems to be alright, I've checked if any internal redirects are stripping off parameters but to no avail. Lastly, I'm not sure if this is a behavioral issue here in SEA--will first click (Adwords) and last click attribution (Analytics) be the only explanation? P.S.S. I'm seeing the same discrepancies with Facebook ads and Analytics.

Your Google AdWords account has been permanently suspended for repeated violation of AdWords or Landing Page and Site policies in this or a related account.
My client nor I received any warning. We even had a google adwords team optimize the account and my rep does not yet know the reason for the ban. Not sure if its related but their google organic rankings dropped significantly at the same time. https://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=164786 Any advice here? Do these Questions get indexed by google? I will ask my client if I can disclose the domain. Is there any way around a permanent ban? They were spending 50K per month. Is this enough to have any clout?
