Tracking Clicks on a Global Header Across Multiple Sites
-
Hey All,
A particular client has multiple websites and we're planning on implementing a global header across 15+ sites. I've been looking for a way to track the clicks on this global header across all sites (that is that they are summed up), what's the best way to go about this if I am using Google Analytics (I know Adobe site catalyst could do this no problem with some advanced tweaking), any ideas?
I could do the general click tracking route and tag every link but that will only help me if I do that for each site (that being said, if the global header for all sites pulls from a single HTML, then tagging it would technically count all the clicks from all the sites, the only caveat being that I'd have to pick which Google analytics profile I'd want to track the header with). Thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi Evans!
If the global header links are just loaded as an include to all the different websites, then it should probably not be a problem with tagging up the links once, and then the data would just flow into the account for the website being displayed.
Have you considered tracking clicks on these as events? Taht would also make it possible to have some sort of generic tracking that could be similar across all the sites.
Best regards,Anders

Close, a property can also be part of a Google Analytics account. But you gave the answer. Then in that case it makes it more difficult as the idea I had before.
-
No they won't be on the same properties since each is an individual domain (each domain has a separate owner of the Google analytics as well).
I'm assuming that by property you mean each individual URL and by account you mean the organizational layer that Google uses (http://chrisburbridge.com/google-analytics-understanding-accounts-vs-properties-vs-profiles/).

Question: will they be on the same Google Analytics property (note, property is not account)?

Tracking Pop Up Form Submission Events with GTM
Hello, I'm currently tracking contact form submissions any time a user clicks 'Submit' on a pop-up form. Once the form is submitted, the URL of the page remains the same (there is no /thank-you page or such like), hence needing to fire the Event based on a click. Problem is, even if the form is not actually submitted and a user just clicks the Submit button without filling in the fields, the Event will still fire. I know there is a way to ensure the Event ONLY fires when the form is actually submitted for real, but I don't know how to implement that in GTM. Any help most appreciated 🙂 Cheers, Gill.

Tracking specific path and referral for unique session
Happy Monday everyone! We recently received a unique lead on our site and I was wondering if there was anyway to pinpoint the exact behavior flow and/or specific referral source they came from on Google Analytics. I know you can view the general behavior flow for all or segmented users based on what pages they viewed, but I wanted to see if I can track by unique sessions to see where this person exactly found us. Any insight is appreciated! Thanks

Universal Analytics & Google Tag Manager - Track URLs that include hashes
Does anyone have any experience tracking URLs that include hashes (#) using Universal Analytics and Google Tag Manager? Can it be done using GTM's container for UA, using the "more settings" options? Or building another tag to work with the GTM UA container? The fallback I'm considering is implementing the UA code in GTM for every page as Custom HTML with the "ga('send', 'pageview', location.pathname + location.search + location.hash);" solution, rather than GTM's specialized UA tag. I'm not yet sure what problems may arise from that, if any. Thanks in advance.

Why did my site go from 1,000 Impressions to 0 impressions over the past couple days
so we have been doing a lot of reconstruction our website the past couple days with our navigation and moving stuff around. Now bare with me because i am a noob to SEO and i am still learning. But we went from a steady 800-1000 impressions everyday to a 0 since the first. you can check out our site here: www.hidguy.net Not sure if its because we are moving stuff around or what. But we can notice that our conversion rate has dropped and we have had traffic but no conversions and no orders. Is what we are doing bad or is this normal?

Cookie tracking in Google Analytics
Hi How do I remove the "/?__utma=...." at the end of my URLs?We have a site http://www.jetonline.co.za/, if you click on one of the menu navigation links i.e. "fashion". A long "/?__utma=...." url appears. I understand this is for tracking as we have separate domains for each page but is there a way to remove this dynamic url and keep it hidden from users? Thanks in advance
