How long after making changes will position on Google be altered?
-
I'm curious as to how long Google updates take these days? I'm just getting back into SEO after 9 years and I recall back in the day there was a monthly "dance" during which page results were updated. Is it more frequent now? Thanks

I agree it depends with the crawl rate on the site.Updating a new sitemap helps if you are adding new URLs and posting new content on Facebook, Twitter, Blogs gets the attention of Google, so if it seems to be going slow, try getting social.
I think this question is already answered, unless you need more clarity?

Thanks, I started using sitemap.xml pages about a year ago on my sites and am also a believer in this process

That makes sense that it varies based on the size of the site. I'm dealing with page rank 3 and 4 sites (moderate to small)...so I'm guessing I'm seeing up to two weeks. Regarding the crawl indication at webmaster tools, if I see a crawl there can I assume the actual pages at google have been updated shortly thereafter? I haven't equated the crawl and the viewable results as the same but maybe I should?

Submitting a current sitemap and help the process, at least to get the ball rolling. We tend to see a spike in crawl rate after doing this.

Hi
This can vary depending on how often Google crawls your site, but I've seen Google crawl and update the rankings in just a few days on some moderately popular sites. I've heard the most popular sites, like the NY Times, are being crawled and updated many times a day. For some really low traffic websites I've seen it take maybe 10 days, but never longer than two weeks, which is just my personal experience of course.
You can go into Google Webmaster Tools to see how often they crawl and how many pages deep they usually go. If the content you're trying to get updated is deep into your site it could take longer. But the homepage much quicker.
Hope this helps.

The "Fetch As Google" limit has been decreased - what now?
Since Google decreased the "Fetch As Google" limit to ten pages per day, we've been a bit stuck. We're publishing 20-30 content pages per day, targeting a huge range of search queries. Circa 40% of our traffic comes to us through these pages. Since we're now heavily restricted on submitting these to Google, who's got other ideas to get the pages picked up quickly? I'm slightly concerned because although the pages link outwards to other areas of the website, no other areas of the site link to these pages. They're purely top-of-the-funnel. We can't be the only people with this concern. How would you address it?

What do people think of Google discouraging guest blogging
Google is recommending that websites nofollow any links from press releases or guest blogging. Do people think this is really the new standard and sites could get penalized for guest blogging with follow links? Is anyone changing their strategy after hearing this announcement? Where does this leave people who work in difficult niches (such as gambling)?

Goods where in top 5 positions or even higher, but after email newsletters we didn't find them even in top 100. We suspect service provider of email sending is in blacklist? Could it be reason? If yes, how could we check that?

Why Does OSE (Open Site Explorer) have such little backlink data on russian sites in the google.ru index?
OK this seems v strange, but google.ru are indexing far more BLs in their SERPS for a widget than OSE reports. Very little data is found in OSE for russian based sites. Is this the marketing intention? (I could send raw data if needed!) What is filtering this vast google.ru data list out? Is OSE only catered for US/UK?

Google Products / Google Shopping
My client has a site with products a lot of which are so similar in function that for usability reasons we have combined some products on the same pages. We want to get into Google Shopping, but on the face of it the Google feed seems to want unique urls per product. I guess we could have products on the same page then have single pages as well, though that could generate duplicate content. We could also try pointing several products to 1 URL, does anyone know if this would work? Or can anyone suggest any work arounds? Justin

How does recent Google update affect e-commerce sites:
Most ecommerce sites use the original manufacturer product descriptions in their content. The product features and specifications are the content made by the manufacturer. Sometimes manufacturers insist that the ecommerce sites should use their original content and it is impossible to change what available in the original content and rewrite it.
