Is there an SEO benefit/drawback to streaming social media to your site?
-
I understand how streaming social media, especially if you have a great social media community, can be effective in terms of capturing customers. However, I'm purely interested in knowing what it does for SEO.
For example, does streaming social media make it look like your home page (or whatever page(s) has it) are constantly being updated?
Or, does streaming g+ have a positive effect but facebook not so much?
Or, does it have a negative effect for whatever reason that might be?
Thanks,
Ruben

Hi Ruben,
There are no negatives to streaming content like this (G+, Facebook or Twitter) that we are aware of, although it isn't likely that these will be seen as "constantly updated content", especially due to how some of these feeds are coded. Often, they use iframes or similar that don't actually show Google's bots what is in the streamed box: Google just sees that there is a Twitter widget or similar on the site. For other types of streaming, Google can read and index the content but will still absolutely understand that it comes from a third party. That said, good social interaction is a good sign (although not a confirmed "ranking factor") and thus can be considered a positive.

Hello Ruben,
In your question I would say you are correct that the Google + would be better than FaceBook feed. I can't think of any negative impact other than page load speed. Depending on your page speed now you may be O.K. with the added code. If your page is already a bit slow, adding more code / scripts to your page may not be a good idea. I would also consider what would be best for my website visitors ? Are they using G+ or FaceBook ? Do what's best for your visitors.
Here is an article we have done about a page speed test on our own website.
Hope that helps !
Joe

Calculating a combined follower score for social media
I'm working on a set of social media metrics for a client, and thought of doing a follower score - sort of like a combined influence rating of all the user's followers. Has anyone done something like this before on Facebook or Twitter? Also, what would be an effective way of creating this score?

Google & Social
Hi Folks It's been made very clear to us that Google is paying attention to social signals. My questions are: How would I check that Google is aware of my Facebook activity and similarly of my Twitter and Pinterest work? If Google is not aware of these what are some steps I can take to inform them that a particular account is related to a my business site? Finally any must read articles on this topic would be appreciated. Thank you for your time to help me out

How to reach beyond main social accounts
My blog is still very young - and I feel like a total newbie, but I'm working at it consistently. I've got 21 posts that I've put up since the beginning of January (except for 2 from October) and another in the pipeline and of course, plans to continue on this way. I've been building up my confidence and feel like it's just about time to branch out farther than my Google+, FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts (which I've been doing regularly). My hope is to gain more visitors by publicizing the posts in some other environments. I would so appreciate some suggestions on how I might do that. And also, is it too soon? I don't want to jump the gun before there's an respectable/acceptable amount of content.

Do forums still have any SEO value?
Hi All! I want to know what people think about having forums on their sites. Do you still find value on these, or are they mostly a waste of resources? Would it be better to use facebook's registration plugin or something along those lines? Any other thoughts or suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Margarita

First Attempt at Local SEO
Hi everyone, I've only been a member for a few days but this community is extremely supportive of one another, and I appreciate that very much. Here's my current project. I've done IM for awhile but now I'm helping a massage therapist with his personal brand here in Chicago. I've used the tools here to identify a few of the bigger sites and ten local keywords that he'd like to rank for - things like chicago massage, cheap massage therapy, and chicago reiki, his favorite. I'm currently getting him set up with Google Places properly so he shows up there. We have a Facebook and Twitter underway. We have a blog he can use if he wants - though I'm not sure how insistent he's going to stay. I'm planning a separate page targeting each of the keywords we're after. His competitors each have a couple local blogs talking about them, so I'm going to contact some local bloggers and offer them free massages in return for a review. He also is getting registered in some of the local business directories - mostly the ones I see the other sites already in. Finally, I was going to use some Build My Rank sites to bulk up his backlinks - maybe focus 10 on each keyword, with 5 going to the main keyword and 5 going to long tails. How does this sound for a simple, first SEO project? I'd love to hear some feedback, even if it's just "sounds great". I've never put one together for a client, and I'm thrilled/nervous. Thanks! Philip

Will you be adding +1 to your sites?
I logged into my Adsense account yesterday and saw a notification that I could have code to add the plus one button to my site. I currently have addthis on most pages, so I set it up so that the +1 button is floated next to my Addthis FB, Twitter and Share buttons. I'd love to hear your personal thoughts on +1. Do you think it will have a great effect on rankings? Are you likely to +1 interesting sites as you surf the web? Are you adding it to all of your pages?

Misplaced social media metrics comparison tool
Hello, I can't seem to find a social media metrics comparison tool that showed me the number of Facebook Likes/Shares, Tweets, etc. compared to a site's competition. Does anyone have any idea what this may be? I scanned through all of my SEO Tools and can't find it.
