Is the Search Love Conference worth the money?
-
Hi,
Thinking about going but just gathering a few opinions first.
Well, is it any good? Worth £1,000?
Anything to share? Info here: https://www.distilled.net/events/searchlove-london/
Thanks

I am entirely biased, as I help organise the conference and I am speaking, but yes, I believe it to be extremely good value for money.
I speak at conferences around the world on a regular basis and, truthfully, I don't think anywhere has matched SearchLove in terms of the quality and depth of the presentations. We are extremely passionate about providing the best possible learning experience for attendees and I think we get better and better each year.
Having already seen snippets of the presentation ideas from David Sottimano and Ade Lewis, I can promise the conference will be absolutely superb.

I recently started my own business offering SEO, PPC and SMM amongst other things so i'll be using it for personal business and putting that learning into effect with my clients.

That's a tough one since you work in house for an eCommerce website. The reason why it is so beneficial for an agency is that anything I learn that really works can help build a reputation, which leads to more customers. You won't get that from the conference.
You will definitely learn something from the presenters at Search Love. All of the speakers are by invite online, and they are the best of the best. There are also a couple of ecommerce experts speaking. You will get some of the latest information on product pages, and A/B testing at the conference.
-
I know its all about the experience and the networking and relationships you can build.
The issue I see is, will I gain £1,000 worth of information, networking, ideas etc.. when compared to something like BrightonSEO which is free?
As a small business, can I justify the investment or is the event a bit over priced for something you can get elsewhere for a much lower cost?
-
What service do you provide? Are you a SEO? Would you be interested in having other agencies out source to you?
Just being frank, the real value of these conferences are in the networking. You can buy the presentation video later, but you can't buy the experience. Do you have a group of people that you can email and get suggestions from? How many people do you know in the industry? Are they blogging? You can learn a lot, and meet a lot of people going to these things.
So, yes I believe that Search Love would absolutely be worth going. Just be ready to step up to the opportunity, and make the most out of it. Ask questions of the presenters, meet people and engage in the social gatherings.

Did you see Search Engine Watch remove links to sources on an article about websites scared of outbound links?
I saw this over on reddit and was curious if anyone else saw this article and noticed the same thing? http://www.reddit.com/r/bigseo/comments/38jgro/sew_quotes_me_and_others_on_a_topic_about_sites/ http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/opinion/2411268/the-collateral-damage-of-google-s-link-policy The irony here is pretty great. Thoughts on this?

Why did one of our keyword score an F but is first place on Google search? The key word is "Barista Classes Los Angeles"
We're working with an SEO company that provides monthly details on what keywords have improved and needs work. One of our keyowords (Barista Classes Los Angeles) climbed up to number one on Google's search box. However, on SEO Moz, the same keyword got an "F" under the On-Page category. Can someone help us out and define why this is happening? This way, we can adjust and see how we can improve. Thanks!

I have a client who when you type in their company name in Google there are some negative terms in the space that says "Searches related to this" ... Is there any way to eliminate these? We are not sure why it is showing up since it has nothing to do with their company but it does look bad...

Machine Learning - Randomness in Search Engine Ranking Algorithms
I believe, sometimes you may 'deserve' the first position, but get #3. And of course, sometimes you may deserve #3 and instead be #1. All due to a 'randomness factor' in search engine algorithms. I've been holding this hypothesis for quite sometime. Really, it started when I learned about SEOmoz using machine learning to better investigate SEO best practices. I suddenly found myself wanting to learn more about machine learning, and the implications of using it for SEO. I'm by no means able to utilize machine learning myself, but I it appears unsupervised learning would have a real chance of cracking search engine algorithms. Hey, even Stuxnet was cracked! Surely Google/ Bing would know (and account for) this, right? We can agree they'd obviously prefer a highly skilled mathematician not be able to crack the code. Therefore, I'm led to believe that search engines use some sort of randomness in their rankings. Maybe not much. Perhaps not all the time. But if a random percentage of search results, had a random variable of sorts included in their calculations... wouldn't that be enough to prevent the vast majority of cracking attempts? Thoughts, opinions, criticism? Thanks.
