NEW LINKS
-
Hi
If you plan to add new links to a site which currently has very few inbound links what is the maximum amount you could add in any one day before it is deemed by Google to be suspicious and unatural. I am referring ot manually added links, not robotic.
Thank you

Sure, if the site already has 100's of links, can you now start adding 40+ a month. The idea is to not have 100 link in June and 3 links in July through September, then 100 links again in October. (unless there is a large PR release, or another reason for large volumes of inbound links to occur)
I would first say to start looking at pages that do not have these number of links and build them up.
Home Page: 1,000's of links
Product Category Page: 100's of links
Product Page: 1-5 links
Build links to this deep page first if you can. (make sure you have a 301 plan in place for dropped pages)

Hi Richard
Thank you for coming back - no I didn't reword my original message, I just clarified it in a second message - my original query wasn't crystal clear.
You confirmed my concerns - however, I did go onto to ask - when a site has a a couple of hundred links or more can that increase that number as the 20 new links would become a far smaller percentage of the total sum than when you start out. (I hope that makes sense to you)
Thanks again
PH

Did I totally miss the question, or did you reword it?
Inbound links should grow over time and in general 20 or so per month is good.

I'm afraid I can't give you any specific number to aim for. Perhaps there is somebody else with experience on what a truly natural amount of new links is for your type of website (which we don't know yet by the way)?
What you could try to look at: Would (any) of these links have occured if it wasn't for your manual effort? Without your effort, at what rate would this particular domain have acquired links?
For example: if this is a site about one specific type of highly niche screwdrivers, it would be far less likely to attract a significant number of backlinks per day than a tech blog that regularly has big scoops.

Hi Theo
Thank you for replying -and sorry I wasn't clear
I was referring to inbound links  - are we talking about 10 or less, or 50 or less (for example) - or is it a matter of percentages so at first it might only be 10 or 20 a days but once you have a few hundred links it being no more than 20% for example
What do you suggest?
Thank you again

Are you referring to incoming links or to outbound links on a page PH292?
Assuming it to be incoming links, there is no magic number. As you said yourself: natural is best, and considering you're worried about too much links too fast I doubt this process will be 'natural'. You could try monitoring the results for your domain on majesticseo.com and see if the increase in links shows a natural curve (when compared to other similar websites in your niche).

No more than 100 links per page. However, with that said, it is more important to consider the visitor rather than Google in this. Too many links gets people lost and confused.

Buy domain, redirect, get all the good links (+link juice) and disavow the spammy ones?
There is a domain for sale that has a quite nice profile and a lot of good backlinks, but also quite a few spammy ones. This domain has a Spam Score of 14% acc. to Moz Link explorer, ours has only 2%. My questions: 1. The domain and the good backlinks are related to or close to our content/keywords. But we are worried whether the "spammy" ones will hurt us. Does anyone has experience with this? 2. Would it help if we disavow the spammy backlinks afterwards? And if so, how do we do that? Add new domain to search console, disavow the bad links and then redirect the entire domain to our domain or redirect the domain first and then disavow from our property? Many thanks for your help!

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

I am getting links on people's wordpress blogs but are not showing up on the just discovered tool. Is it true that wordpress links are no-follow links that do give off any link-juice?
A blogger told me that "wordpress.com does not allow blogs to show advertisements or use links to sites that sell merchandise of any kind" is this true? Am i wasting my outreach time trying to get links from wordpress operated blogs?

Old links
I am looking to remove some old directory links that now look spammy. Some years ago the site was redesigned. The links are all to the old pages url, which is 301 redirected to the new. If we remove the 301 and let the page 404, will that suffice in Googles eyes?

If I write a PR release on a site such as PRweb with anchor-text links that is picked up and published by other news sites, do the engines consider this duplicate content or additional, beneficial links?
I recently wrote a news release on PRweb that was picked up identically by 8 other news websites, with the same anchor-text links as the original. Is the reproduction of duplicate content and links across different websites like this to the benefit or detriment of SEO and ranking power? Some of the links are: http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/view/pressrelease/eventa-new-eventa-christmas-parties-website-is-launched-648923?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=Alert&utm_content=pressrelease http://www.prweb.com/releases/christmasparties/neweventasite/prweb8562064.htm Many thanks!!

Should I unify my links?
Checking at opensiteexplorer.org I can see that: mydomain.com has has DA 26, linking root domains 1, total links 22 www.mydomain.com has DA 26, linking root domains 31, total links 89 The 22 links to the non-www domain come from the same site, which I would be able to convince to change to the www domain. Is it worth doing it? Will it add up to better DA? Thanks J PS: with only 32 root domains I think I have to do some serious link building...
