Different page for each service at each location? Where does it end!
-
If we have 15 different locations and 10 different services, do we need to make keyword targeted landing pages for each combination? Is that actually the best method or is there some alternative?
For example, if we are a law office specializing in slip and falls and car accidents, do we need a page for EACH location for each service (ie. Miami Car Accident Lawyer, Miami Slip and Fall Lawyer, Orlando Slip and Fall Lawyer, Orlando Car Accident Lawyer) etc. to maximize our ranking potential in each location?
Is there a better way or are we left with this until Google gets "smarter"?

Hey Ricky,
Such a good question. As you can probably guess, the proviso here is that you can build all of these pages ... if they have genuine value. To be honest, most sites you see taking this approach are building pages that don't really have a purpose other than attempting to gain rankings for a laundry list of terms, right? After all, having a slip and fall accident in Miami isn't really much different than having one in Orlando. In the real world - it isn't different. But trying to please the bots can cause business owners and marketers to get into some pretty complicated contortions.
My honest preference is to have 1 page per service and 1 page per location and depend on building the authority of the brand so that the site is strong enough to rank for many terms. I think the Moz blog is an awfully good example of this. Search for a topic, and up comes a Moz blog post, and not because we've got "For Seattle, For San Francisco, For Boston" in the titles. The strength of the site, overall, helps with ranking for topics. True, Moz is not a local business, but the concept is the same to me - building the kind of authority that makes whatever you publish on your site seem important/relevant to Google for its topic. So, like I've said, 1 page per service and 1 per location would be my ideal preference.
That being said, the legal industry is cutthroat in major cities, and sometimes a Local SEO will find himself doing things that may not seem very sensible, just trying to keep ahead of the competition. If, in auditing your unique competitive scenario, you do feel you have to build a page for every service/city combo, I guess the best you can do is to try to make those pages as unique and helpful as possible. If you're the copywriter, I don't envy you, but it can be done with enough resources and creativity.

This is one of my biggest challenges too!
I'm sending you a response privately, because I don't want the answer publicized.

Ah, you've found forthepeople.com. Yeah, I don't envy your task. They're a pretty big deal and more than likely spend to get the results they have. I've watched them 'grow up' over the last five years.
Notice how they're very careful not to cannibalize Orlando Personal Injury Attorney? The domain was created in 1996. There's been steady improvement in ranking/traffic over the last five years. The last three years have been the most effective. Though there was a pretty good dip around the last Penguin update. They appear to have more or less recovered.
Your client may be a little newer. Your client may not have a domain of that age. Your client may not have the same budget right now. Morgan and Morgan has the budget and they've been around forever.
There's hardly anything in the PI space that isn't competitive. Specialization, differentiation and branding will be invaluable when faced with entrenched competition. What does the attorney or firm particularly specialize in?
- Wrongful Death
- Premise Liability (Slip & Fall)
- Workers Comp
You can focus on bolt holes within the personal injury niche, especially if the client doesn't have the budget of a larger firm. From there, you can set out milestones and spend. The Morgan & Morgan site wasn't built overnight. Notice how they kept tweaking it and adding to the site?
So no, don't go after every page under the sun just because a successful competitor has X amount of pages about X amount of topics. That's the road to disappointment.

I would suggest building a page for each location and service, as long as you can create value-added content for each topic.
The major issue here is, if you do not do it then a competitor will and I would bet on the unique pages with deep content ranking higher.

More pages on website better for SEO?
Hi all, Is creating more pages better for SEO? Of course the pages being valuable content. Is this because you want the user to spend as much time as possible on your site. A lot of my competitors websites seem to have more pages than mine and their domain authorities are higher, for example the services we provide are all on one page and for my competitors each services as its own page. Kind Regards, Aqib

Need Awesome Examples of Well-Designed Service & Product Pages
I'm looking for some examples of really well built product/service pages that have great conversion points on them. I find most small businesses do a terrible job at highlighting their features & benefits (the "why") for their services and wanted some inspiration from those that are doing a fabulous job.

I can't get my page to rank. What am I doing wrong?
I'm new to this forum and this is my first question. So if I'm not supposed to ask this type of question, please forgive me. I'm trying my best to get http://www.westcoastflenterprises.com/#!roofing/bbb1e to rank on the first page in Google for "roofing contractors" in the following SW Florida cities: "Naples, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers." Our company has a physical address in Fort Myers only so I understand it's going to be harder to get it to rank for Naples and Bonita Springs. But I can't even get this page to rank well for "roofing contractors in Fort Myers." The page authority is 25 and our domain authority is 27. Our home page authority is 39. Our primary category in Google is building restoration & preservation. But we have divisions in our company: Roofing Concrete Ornamental metals I would love it if our roofing page could rank higher than the third page, which is where it currently sits. I worked really hard to get each of our roofing-material manufacturers to link directly to our roofing page, not the home page. My hope is that you can help me because I'm really discouraged. Thanks in advance.

What is the effect of CloudFlare CDN on page load speeds, hosting IP location and the ultimate SEO effect?
Will using a CDN like CloudFlare.com confuse search engines in terms of the location (IP address) of where the site is actually physically hosted especially since CloudFlare distributes the site's content all around the globe? I understand it is important that if customers are mostly in a particular city it makes sense to host on an IP address in the same city for better rankings, all things else being equal? I have a number of city-based sites but does it make having multiple hosting plans in multiple cities/ countries (to be close to customers) become suddenly a ridiculous thing with a CDN? In other words should I just reduce it down to having one hosting plan anywhere and just use the CDN to distribute it? I am really struggling with this concept trying to understand if I should consolidate all my hosting plans under one, or if I should get rid of CloudFlare entirely (can it cause latency in come cases) and create even more locally-based hosting plans (like under site5.com who allow many city hosting plans). I really hope you can help me somehow or point me to an expert who can clarify this confusing conundrum. Of course my overall goal is to have:

1. lowest page load times
2. best UX
3. best rankings I do realise that other concepts are more important for rankings (great content, and links etc.) but assuming that is already in place and every other factor is equal, how can I fine tune the hosting to achieve the desirable goals above? Many thanks!

Local SEO - Adding the location to the URL
Hi there, My client has a product URL: www.company.com/product. They are only serving one state in the US. The existing URL is ranking in a position between 8-15 at the moment for local searches. Would it be interesting to add the location to the URL in order to get a higher position or is it dangerous as we have our rankings at the moment. Is it really giving you an advantage that is worth the risk? Thank you for your opinions!

Sub domain for geo pages
Hello Group! I have been tossing the idea in my head of using sub domains for the geo pages for each of my clients. For example: one of my clients is a lawyer in a very competitive Atlanta market http://bestdefensega.com. Can I set his geo page to woodstock.bestdefensega.com? Is this a viable option? Will I get penalized? Thoughts or suggestions always appreciated! Thanks in Advance

Hi Mozers! So I watched a video about Matt Cutts he talks about creating multiple web pages just for one keywords is an absolutely no go. So I was wondering we serve a clients in NZ Australia and USA, If we target phrase like Psychic Readings California, Psychic Readings San Diego etc (USA) Psychic Readings Melbourne, Psychic Readings Sydney (AU) Psychic Readings Auckland, Psychic Readings Wellington (NZ) What is the best practice or right way to go about structuring my pages to do this without going against googles guidelines. Local seo landing pages and proper keywords to optimize and showing up for generic keyword localized results
looking for advice. I have my site built into landing pages for each city I service. Would it effect my seo in a negative way if I built other landing pages with "keyword + zip code" as well as the city ones I already have or do you think it would make my city rankings worst? Also how do you get a seo city landing page to show up for the "keyword" or "keyword near me" in the city of interest? Is making landing pages with "keyword + city" sufficient way to accomplish this or is there a trick I am unaware of?
