Effecting Domain Authority
-
I've taking an old brochure website and done 61 Pages and 10 Post pages On-page SEO and my Domain Authority is still a '1.' I've used Low Difficulty Keywords and gotten Grade A in On-page Moz reports. We've even keyworded 400 images - Alt text. My competitors have done nothing and they have domain authority at least in the 40s...... Am I doing anything wrong?

Hi Joseph!
It sounds like you have been busy and I'm sure you are ready to see the fruits of your labor! One thing that may be helpful to realize is how DA and PA work. There is quite a bit of delay due to crawl frequency and delays associated with the crawl and these metrics are delayed by approximately four weeks or so. This is the same reason that a recent article on HuffPo or TechCrunch will show a PA of zero. This could easily be what is going on here. I use a combination of more real-time metrics (i.e. AHREFS and Majestic) in addition to moz metrics.
That being said, to increase DA/PA you have to build high-quality links into the site. My opinion is the best way to do this is to make ridiculously good assets and content and then promote them to influencers in the nice.
Good luck with the site!

It sound like you have done some great on site SEO work.
However Domain Authority (DA) is based more on external factors, i.e. links pointing to your site. You might want to read http://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority
How you go about getting links is a whole different conversation. I would recommend doing it the hard and slow way. Trying to cheat Google / Moz will only get you penalised in the long run. DA is a Moz score, but Google will have a similar score, even though they will never reveal your score.
Try producing good content onsite that people in your niche want to link to. Once written instead of waiting for these people to find your content (they never will, or it will take years), be direct. Pick up the phone and speak with influencers in your niche.
There are two parts to SEO, technical and content / links. The content / link strategy is what was called PR 10 years ago and its all about getting mentioned and links in relevant areas. There is no point getting a link to your site from sectors which aren't relevant. Google will see through these.
Also never pay for a link, and never trust any of these emails you get offering to get you amazing links from PR6 etc sites. These never work in the long run and only will do more long term damage than help you.
I hope this is helpful in explaining why your DA hasn't improved and what you need to do to improve it. Also DA only updates around once a month, so any work you do now may take a few months to show. You have to wait for Moz to find the link, then wait for their next update. The more popular the site you get the link from the quicker Moz is likely to find it.
Thanks
Andy

Keyword in Domain AND Title. Yes or No?
We're working on a new buildout, and this one is really important to us. We've put a lot of resources into it. Before we launch, we want the structure to be just right... and this one question is nagging at me. How to structure urls? Consider these two options. The fictitious domain is "icesurfing.org". Including all 50 states in the keyword, there are nearly one million searches per month for "ice surfing [state]". We have a page for each state to focus on this traffic. But how would you structure the urls and titles? **icesurfing.org/state ** icesurfing.org/ice-surfing-state One concern is that the duplicate keywords in option 2 seem redundant, and a little spammy. When presented with google search, the matching tags are not as clean. Texas - IceSurfing.org Ice Surfing Texas - IceSurfing.org But Yoast automatically suggests option 2. Is this really the best practice? Is there are definitive article on this? THANK YOU!

How Do I Get Rel=Author to Work Via Wordpress SEO by Yoast?
I have read Yoast's tutorial and others on how to get rel=author to work properly on my site (http://injuryattorneyshouston.com). Here are the results I get from the Google Structured Data Testing Tool: "Authorship is working for this webpage." "rel=author markup has successfully established authorship for this webpage." "Publisher markup is verified for this page." All seems well except for this: hatom-feed | hatom-entry: | |

URL Domain Used in Meta Description
Today I was asked if using a domain url in your meta description can have a negative impact on your website. This description includes a list of the homepage url, but directs visitors to a different internal page of the website. My concern fell with directing visitors to a different page of the site, but promoting the homepage in the description/snippet. With Penguin 2.1 release on the 4th, I'm very cautious of my links/urls. What are your thoughts behind this? What are the possible, if any negative impacts this could have on a site? This URL does have a brand name as so the Title.

Author snippet image in results, question!
Hi, Quick question really, I can see how a Google+ profile picture showing up in the results can increase CTR and even trust but would this be a no no for a normal website? I mean if you had a website which offered personal training, so a brand rather than an individual would you not use this snippet? I've seen some website, even ecommerce sites using this tag to just increase their CTR.

Installing a site on top level domain directory VS deeper directory
How important it is for seo to install a site on a top level directory vs deeper directory? example: www.mysite.com VS www.mysite.com/catalog many eCommerce scripts such as oscommerce and cre loaded will install by default to /catalog and that's what I've been doing for most of my customer. does it mean it will be harder for them to get good seo results? Thanks in advance for the input...

Has anyone with a high number of home page tiles been effected by the panda/farmer update?
One of the sites I'm working on seems to have dropped a few spots in rankings. It has numerous home page tiles, but they are not really advertising; just links to different sections on the site. Does anyone think that might be a factor in the rankings drop?

Competitive Domain Analysis
In the competitve domian analysis my domain root (gpscity.com) is showing up as a 404 not found. My competition is showing up as 200. My site is live, index and viewable, but I'm wondering if this has an effect on my rankings? What can I do to test that it's not returning a 404 when the crawlers view my site?
