Did Google change/eliminate rich snippets for videos?
-
For example, if you search "Whiteboard Friday" on Google, the only rich snippets are for YouTube videos. None of the rich snippets point to Moz.com directly
This contradicts this video from Wistia about video SEO - http://wistia.com/learning/video-seo
-
Yes, for the time being Youtube will be the prevailing video result. Since this is a recent change, I would imagine some of the information in the Wistia library is a little out of date. They more than likely aren't trying to mislead you.
Wistia still makes sense for a number of use cases.

Google AMP Cache - Does Google just crawl AMP pages and add them to their Google AMP Cache?
Is that all one needs to do to get AMP pages on Google's AMP Cache or is there more to it than that?

Switching to HTTPS YES/NO ?
Yesterday we received an email form GWT that our website does not have a valid SSL certificate. So google is now standard scanning on the https domain. Is this the beginning of an algo update on security, as Matt Cuts said on the SMX "At SMX West Matt Cutts gave the attendees a few tidbits, one of those items was that making your site secure, encrypted, i.e. SSL enabled, is an important trend for 2014. At the end of the session, I asked Matt if this means Google is looking to give sites that enable SSL a ranking boost. Matt Cutts shrugged his shoulders and explained that if it was his choice, he would make it so. But he said, it is far from happening and there are people at Google that do not want this to happen". So should we switch to https with SSL, what are the potential risks with this changes for websites with very good ranking on competitive keywords. Email we received: Site host name, https://www.sum.nl, does not match your SSL certificate Subject Name We have noticed that the host name of your site, https://www.example.nl, does not match any of the "Subject Names" in your SSL certificate, which were: *.example.com example.com As a result, many web browsers will block users from accessing your site, or display a security warning message when your site is accessed. Recommended action To correct this problem, please get a new SSL certificate by a Certificate Authority (CA) with a "Subject Name" or "Subject Alternative DNS Names" that matches your host name. Help Analyzing A Youtube Video
This youtube video dominates the top search phrases for my area. The problem is that this JUST happened. It wasn't there last week, and the video has only been uploaded a month. Also, this law firm has not been ranking for anything that I have seen until now. It's all just out-of-nowhere. I saw the WBF about Fresh Content, but there's not a lot of Google News or dates referenced in any of the other results. This video looks like a great outlier to me, but I'm guessing I'm just missing something. Any ideas? I'd love to mimic this success! As always, thanks everyone! Ruben

SEO Implications when domain ownership and branding changes
I have a couple questions for the SEOMOZ community - and/or it's leader, Rand, if at all possible 🙂 It is very important for us to have good information. Scenario: Company A: National established leader in a niche product currently receives 49% of their traffic from branded keywords. Company A wants to protect and further grow it's gains that have been made in SEO even after it is acquired by Company B. Company B: Is a much larger company that acquires Company A. 1. What could happen to Google rankings when company A is bought out and Company B changes the registered owner and whois record? Could Google see this as a signal that the ownership has changed and then re-evaluate the ranking of Company A's website? 2. What would most likely happen if company B were to change the branding of Company A's established website? Company A currently receives about half of it's traffic from branded keywords. The acquiring company may want to change some of the SEO titles, ALT-Text, H1 tags, etc to also promote itself on the acquired company's site. Thank you all in advance for your help!

Shooting Video: What hardware would you recommend?
I'm looking to start publishing basic video guides for the company website. Me, a whiteboard and some useful information.... maybe weekly, possibly on a Friday. Think I saw some guy do something similar once... 🙂 I'm looking to spend about $300 - $350 on the hardware - I'm thinking $300 on the camera and $50 on an external mic. Testing with iPhone videos and the video function on point and shoot digital still cameras came back with lighting and sound issues, hence the move to buy some equipment. I don't mind it looking simple, but don't want it looking (and sounding) too cheap. Does anyone have any recommendations? What (if anything) do you use? Any videos I can watch to judge the quality? Anything you think I should definitely not go without (tripod? etc) Thanks! Thanks for the tips guys. Am currently trying to get hold of a bigger budget. Lighting, boom mike and two cameras. Will post a few examples once I have them. Cheers!

Few questions regarding Rand's Over Optimization Video
I was just watching the Whiteboard Friday video and it was informative and good. Thank god, we always tried to stay natural and all of our websites are perfectly not in danger. Anyways, I do have few questions : He said about internal links on inner pages. One of our site has a sidebar with a list of 10 items, which are our main services and we want users always to have a access to it, so we have placed it on the sidebar and it appears on all pages. Is it wrong ? About the links, we have a list of social bookmarking sites, like 450 sites, and all of them are PR2-PR5 sites, etc. We submit each of our product to those sites . Is it wrong ? And how to know, which is a low quality site and we should not submit the link there ? We receive like 10+ link requests per day and we place their links and they place ours on resources page. Is it wrong ? We write eZine article for all of our products/keywords and submit. Is it wrong ? Looks like, the old school link building method are going to go down the pit hole by Google. Whats the new way to build links ? This is making me crazy.

Is submitting a single piece of video content to a lot of different video sites spam?
In the past I have been told that you can use tools like Tube Mogul to auto submit a single piece of video content to lots of different video sites and that it is not considered spam. After watching Rand's Whiteboard Friday I am more skeptical of this tactic. Here are my list of reasons why doing this would and wouldn't be considered spam. This is not spam because: These video sites are individual sites with an individual user base. This is spam because: Google does not want duplicate content of any kind in the SERPs. I leaning towards spam but have seen this be very effective in the local space. So I'm torn.
