By changing the wordpress theme what need to take for seo consideration?
-
Hi guys!
we have a site that been using a theme for a year now and we decided to change to a new one, the question here is, does it affect seo? or it is possible to remain 100% for the seo?
What caution tips that you guys can share for changing the theme? Does just remaining the same URL works?

does moz cawel test tool is sufficient enough to crawl a whole site ?
-
so i assume the best way is use seo frog to gather all the links from the domain and redirect to the right page right?
-
Do not use your homepage 301 redirect default . You have to use the most relevant page for 404 errors in order to have any value from them and not create a spam he mess.
-
hi another question, is there anyway to redirect all 404, using 301 to the homepage? if doing so would it be better for seo?

I agree with everything BlueprintMarketing said.
I would add that you should back up your blog posts, just in case something goes berserk. If you're on a paid theme or going to another paid theme, normally their support might have some advice for you.
I second Genesis/Studio Press framework from Copyblogger Media. I have one, and never had any issues when I switched from a free theme to a paid one. Never used Woo Themes, but I've heard good things.
-
I am assuming this means you're keeping your content and everything else link structure at the same correct?
** If you are going to be changing URLs and things like that please let me know so I can answer this more appropriately for that.**
If you use a high-quality developer to make sure all the minor things that will be changing that make up the theme are handled properly you can get away without being touched by Google and may be going up. Although the opposite can happen if you do not take precautions.
The quality of the theme can hurt your rankings as well as boost them. Use a high quality developer to guide you through this. I would run “screaming frog seo spider” before the change then again after. Also pay close attention to Google Webmaster tools.
I know that there can be changes with JavaScript, CSS and many other things because of a theme change you'll want to be very conscious of these things and they can affect your site architecture.
there's a good chance that there will be other things inside the site that will be changing. You will want to look out for 404's you want to be certain that the theme you are changing it with his a high quality theme at least from WordPress.org I prefer studio press or Woo themes that these are my preferences.
you will have a lot of small things change inside your site you'll want to use the crawl tool to monitor issues and take care of them right away.
One tip if you use Genesis-based framework or studio press themes you get built-in schema which is a nice perk.
I hope this is helpful and remember to check your site for changes that most likely will occur when you modify your site.
Sincerely,
Thomas

I redesigned a clients website and there is a pretty massive drop in traffic - despite my efforts to significantly improve SEO.
Hi there, I redesigned a clients website that was very old fashioned and was not responsive. I implemented 301 redirects, kept the content pretty similar, website linking structure very similar - the only things i changed was making the website responsive, improved title tags, added a bit more information, improved the footer and h1 tags etc.. however although clicks are fairly similar search impressions have dropped about 60% on average over the past week. The old site had some keywords linking to pages with no new content so i removed those as seemed like black hat seo tricks and also there was a huge list of "locations we deliver to" on the homepage followed by around 500 citys/towns I removed this. Could this be the cause for the drop? as i assumed those would do more harm than good? Fairly new with SEO as you can probably tell. Looking for advice on what may be the cause and what steps I should take now. Thanks for reading! duGeW

Will Removing My Keyword from Breadcrumb Title to Simplify UI Hurt Page SEO?
Working on the UI of a new site and I would like to simplify the breadcrumbs so they do not take up as much space. They will still communicate the same message to user. See example below: Before: Home > Widget Dealers > Tennessee > Nashville After: Home > Dealers > Tennessee > Nashville The page title and/or menu item would still be "Widget Dealers". So my question is, if I remove the keyword "Widget" only from the breadcrumb could that hurt me in any way?

Preparing for Penguin: Delete or Change to Branding 25 small blogs, anchor text
Hello, This site has 80 root domains pointing to the domain, call it site X. 25 of them are tiny blogs the owner put up himself. The blogs consist only of 4 posts or so, where each post has a 2 keyword anchor text links to each one of his 4 sites. One link in each post goes to the home page and one goes to an internal page. Let's concern ourselves with cleaning up the anchor text profile of site X. All blogs are on private registration. Half of the blog domain names are furniture related and furniture is not relevant to this niche. But 3/4 to 3/5 of the content of each blog (2 paragraphs per post and 4 posts) is relevant. My concern is that even though the anchor text is varied and there's only 2 links going out to site X per blog, none of it is branded and so I'm concerned about Penguin type updates. Should we change these to branded or delete them? We're working on content promotion for backlinks in case we have to delete these blogs, but it's a small budget. What should we do? '

SEO problems with PR Newswires
Just been investigating PR newswires for the first time (despite having worked in PR for over a decade!) One of my clients has asked my to send out a news release via a newswire of my choice. I will not be posting the news release on my client's website, to avoid the most obvious duplication issue. Has anyone had SEO probs from newswires though? I just saw one which offered: "Minimum guaranteed number of media websites on which your release is posted" alarm bells!

Does publishing a white paper good for SEO? We are trying to decide to publish one or not for the purpose of SEO. If it will not help, we will spend money for other things.
