Site wide content like "why choose us" just above the footer on every single page

Hi Guys,
I know that is not good having any kind of duplicate content on your site, but SEO is above all "competition", so I have to see what my competitor are doing to find the best way to outrank them.
So this is my question: is it good or not having site wide content like "why choose us" just above the footer on every single page? At the moment, I can see many - too many - of my client competitors having the "Why choose us" as site wide content above the footer. The funny thing they don't use a couple of sentences, they have placed many words and 10/20 internal links, in other words, they have enough stuff to put down a stand alone page.
What do you think: this is just a bad SEO practice or it may work, as I can see so many sites ranking well with this kind of piece of junk on each page.
I am not going to recommend this to my client, but as am trying to detail every decision I make showing what the competitors are currently doing, my concern is that my client finds it and therefore will ask to have the same shiny piece of garbage above the footer.

Hi,
We have a 'Why Choose us' section on most pages of one of our websites, and it hasn't affected our SEO in the slightest. It helps inform people as to why they should choose our company as opposed to the competition.
I don't believe it's 'garbage' - SO LONG as it's well executed. It drives conversion for us, so I think it's worth having.
I don't think it's worth having if there is nothing to differentiate yourself (or your client) but that's a different topic.
As far as SEO goes, it does no harm - so long as the rest of the content on the page is unique and useful.

I understand what you mean here, sometimes these business folk just get in a rut of so and so is doing this we must do it too. I can't tell you how many times I have asked companies a question about a specific detail and offered opinions and their response was "well what are our competitors doing"?

I am agreed with you, but unfortunately what I have got from the creative brief the client gave us, is that in this market all the players have an awful poor idea of what marketing, targets, benefits, features etc meanings.
After I have analysed some sites I can say they don't do anything to separates from each others. They all offer the same services with fees that change of a couple of pounds. I can tell you that there are two kind of sites:
- populated with thousands pages, hundreds internal links and the "why choose us" footer.
- clean, neat and very stylish. With thin content and funny site structure
To be honest, I have an idea on how to make outstanding this business from the competitors, but it's more like developing a new service than marketing the current services. We will see what they give me a feedback on my idea.

That all depends on what you are using it for. If you are in a market where your service or product can be found anywhere, than something that sets you apart from your competition should be highlighted in as many places as you possibly can. Best practice would be to incorporate this on an about us page, or add a tab to the top nav bar that would allow your customers to see it and then go to a page for the details. I do not like the idea of duplicate content on every page. I don't believe it increases the user experience and it definitely loses its SEO value.
For the purposes of standing apart from the competition, I would create a page highlighting what separates you from your competitors and then add it to your top nav bar. Call it "Why Choose Us" or "About Us", or even "What Makes Us Different". Something to catch the Users eye and give them an idea of what separates your company from everyone else selling your product or service.

Unique Pages with Thin Content vs. One Page with Lots of Content
Is there anyone who can give me a definitive answer on which of the following situations is preferable from an SEO standpoint for the services section of a website? 1. Many unique and targeted service pages with the primary keyword in the URL, Title tag and H1 - but with the tradeoff of having thin content on the page (i.e. 100 words of content or less). 2. One large service page listing all services in the content. Primary keyword for URL, title tag and H1 would be something like "(company name) services" and each service would be in the H2 title. In this case, there is lots of content on the page. Yes, the ideal situation would be to beef up content for each unique pages, but we have found that this isn't always an option based on the amount of time a client has dedicated to a project.

Duplicate Content for Event Pages
Hi Folks, I have event pages for specific training courses running on certain dates, the problem I have is that MOZ indicates that I have 1040 duplicate content issues because I'm serving pages like this https://purplegriffon.com/event/2521/mop-practitioner I'm not sure how best to go about resolving this as, of course, although each event is unique in terms of it's start date, the courses and locations could be identical. Will Google penalise us for these types of pages, or will they even index them? Should I add a canonical link to the head of the document pointing to the related course page such as https://purplegriffon.com/courses/project-management/mop-management-of-portfolios/mop-practitioner. Will this solve the issue? I'm a little stuck on what to do for the best. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Kind Regards Gareth Daine

Duplicate Content with ?Page ID's in WordPress
Hi there, I'm trying to figure out the best way to solve a duplicate content problem that I have due to Page ID's that WordPress automatically assigns to pages. I know that in order for me to resolve this I have to use canonical urls but the problem for me is I can't figure out the URL structure. Moz is showing me thousands of duplicate content errors that are mostly related to Page IDs For example, this is how a page's url should look like on my site Moz is telling me there are 50 duplicate content errors for this page. The page ID for this page is 82 so the duplicate content errors appear as follows and so on. For 47 more pages. The problem repeats itself with other pages as well. My permalinks are set to "Post Name" so I know that's not an issue. What can I do to resolve this? How can I use canonical URLs to solve this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Why does Google pick a low priority page on my site?
Hi Guys. One of my pages ranks quite well for "mid year diaries 14-15" on Google. The problem is it's a really specific product page (A4, Hardback, day-to-a-page diary I think). It would be much better for the user to land on our mid-year diaries category, not really deep into the site. Why is Google prioritizing this product page over our general 'mid year diaries' category? Especially when the category would relate to the search more accurately? How to fix duplicate page content and page titles?
Apologies in advance if this has already been answered (it probably has) - I'm just not seeing it. Is there a guide on here for how to fix the issues brought up by the crawler - specifically, things like duplicate page content, or duplicate page titles? A lot of these seem to have been created by wordpress.org combos that I didn't anticipate - i.e., category pages, author pages, etc. The crawler brings up the problems, but I don' t know where to start to go about fixing them. Also, any guide on best SEO practices or fixing optimization problems, specifically for wordpress.org blogs, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What's the best practice for implementing a "content disclaimer" that doesn't block search robots?
Our client needs a content disclaimer on their site. This is a simple "If you agree to these rules then click YES if not click NO" and you're pushed back to the home page. I have this gut feeling that this may cause an upset with the search robots. Any advice? R/ John
