Linking Root Domains www and non-www
-
I just ran our site through Open Site Explorer. If I run the non-www version I get 30 root domains, if I run www I get 177. Is it wise to try and contact those sites using the non-www version and ask them to update the links to www version? Will that make much of a difference?
-
Thanks. Our domain has been set to www since it launched last year in GWT. That is fine and working as it should. Hopefully some of these guys will be willing to change to add the www.

Definitely try to get them to point to the www version. You never know...one of those links could be a heavy-weight. It's just good practice to pick one and stick to it.

If you have a 301 redirect in place pointing the non-www to the www (or vice versa) you won't be losing link value from either link. You should also put both versions in Goggle Webmaster Tools and set your preferred domain there to further cement which one is the defacto URL. See: http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
Contacting people linking to you can be good in and of itself if as that can further the relationship. They might have ideas for more content they'd like to see on your site, or insights into what they like.

My Domain has a couple of badlinks decreasing my rankings, will disavowing them reduce my Domain Authority on Moz?
Good day Every Body, I have a heart aching issue, my site (nightwatchng.com) amassed a number carnivorous backlinks, I have lost rankings, i studied my search traffic and discovered that I have been hit by Google Penguin Algorithm Penalty, I was forced to believe that those backlinks were built to my site on purpose just so my rankings will drop, I know the importance of link building and thats why i follow the white hat technique. Now the big question is, IF I DISAVOW THESE TERRIBLE LINKS FROM GOOGLE SEARCH, WILL MY MOZ DOMAIN AUTHORITY DROP FROM WHAT IT CURRENTLY HAS?? I also want to know if the Algorithm Penalty will affect the subdomain (news nightwatchng.com) of my site?

If you discount a subscription when the client links to you, does that classify as a paid link?
For example, we all subscribe to MOZ, but if we received a 25% discount on our subscription if we linked back, would that be considered by Google as a paid link, or would it be seen as a sales tool / promotion?

Deep Links From Same Domain
I know that it is best to diversify your inbound link profile, but I would like to know the best practices for a domain as a whole as opposed to the domains component pages. If I have a good link source (say for example Squidoo) that can provide links to a website's home page AND a few of its lower tier pages, are all these links of more or less equal value (for seo purposes) to each of the link targets, or does Google simply use a "one source domain, one counted link" approach? Thanks Bill

Does blocking domains help remove bad links?
I have affiliate websites that are harming for one of 2 reasons: 1. They are on adult websites (and I don't want to be in a bad neighborhood) or 2. They are using a Frameset (so their content appears identical to mine and I am getting "credit" for all their junk links) I cannot get these websites to remove our links so I have blocked their IPs on our production firewall. Is this an effective method or should I do something else with these links?
