New site. How important is traffic for a new site? And what about domain age?
-
Hi guys. I've been building a new site because i've seen a real SEO opportunity out there. I'm a mixing professional by trade and so I wanted to take advantage of SEO to help gain more work. Here's the site: www.signalchainstudios.co.uk
I'm curious about domain age. This site fairly well optimised for my keywords, and my site got pretty good content on it (i think so anyway). But it's no where to be seen on the SERP's (link at all). Is this just a domain age issue?
I'd have though it might be in the top 50 because my site's services are not hard to rank for at all!
Also what about traffic? Does Google want to see an 'active' site before it considers 'promoting' it up the ranks? Or are back links and good content the main factor in the equation?
Thanks in advance. I love this community to bits
Isaac.

Yeah, Totally makes sense! Better get building
-
No problem. I love the Moz Community. It rocks for sure.
I mean small as in very few pages and content. I consider a site to be authoritative based on the information I can find on it. So if you have 12 pages with a ton of uniquely valuable content, then your site is authoritative in my opinion.
That being said, it is better to have a site with 12 pages of great content than 100 pages of lame, duplicate, uninformative content. You can get the same authoritative stance in the SERPs with few pages of outstanding content, or many pages of outstanding content. Does that make sense?
-
One other quick question if I may?
When you say the site is small, do you mean there aren't many pages, or that there's not a great deal of content (copy, images, etc) on the site?
Or both?

Awesome Monica! Thank you so much for your time Should;nt be to hard to change this.
This community is just ace!

Yes, ideally your URLs would build as you go through them.
abcinc.com/online-mixing/studio
abcinc.com/online-mixing/software
abcinc.com/online-mixing/software/download
Something like that
-
Ah! So the site would benefit from adding the "online mixing" keyword to the URL's for all the deeper pages in the site? Can't change Home page now though
-
It is very important to have the keywords in your URL and Title tags. It is what the engines use, aside from content, to determine what your page is about. It is how they determine where you are relevant in the online world. I wouldn't say that they are not important. Content is king of course, but your URL and Title are kind of like the introduction to your content. Successful content builds off of the main key term for the page.
So, for online mixing, my url would be something like abcinc.com/online-mixing/studio
My title tag would be something like Chicago's Best Online Mixing Studio or The Only Online Mixing Studio You Need. Then my H1 would be something similar, The Only Online Mixing Studio You Will Ever Need To Use, and then my content would focus on the pros of the site, what tools are beneficial to online mixing and how my site uses them to achieve the ultimate mix
-
Thank you for your kind words About the URL. I was under the impression that keywords in here wasn't such a big deal anymore? And only 2 competitors on top page have the main keyword phrase 'online mixing' in the URL. Plus I do have 'mixing' in there, so it's no so bad?
I hope so. I really wanted to commit to the brand, and keep it strong and not 'dilute it' by just putting keywords into the URL.
I will take your advice a build my site out, add blog, fresh content. All part of running a good business anyway Don't want to only really on SEO Though free traffic is alway nice!!!
Also, I'm working on gaining my old back-links at the moment, some pretty decent ones, highly relevant. It was a Flash site before, so not great from an SEO point of view.
Thanks again!

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us!
My thoughts, you need some quality backlinks and more content. Your URLs are not optimized very well, meaning you don't really target your key terms in them, and the site is small. I would say getting a blog and adding fresh content, having a social media presence, building some quality backlinks and adding more content to your pages will help you. The design of the site is beautiful, though! Good Job!

Apologies apologies apologies. Typed in my old sites URL. duh! New one is on the bottom post.

New site is below

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm so sorry I sent you to my old site. New one is on the post below

If you use the new domain change the moz points and also the google score. In my opinion, the best way is to use the other domain and improve it. Good Luck!
-
It is the hosting I believe that has expired, not the domain.
-
I see the same thing as Jonathon. Though a whois search says it doesn't expire till this August (and has been registered since August 2009).
-
All I see on that domain is "this webspace is expired".
If you still see your website, try clearing your browser cache. It could explain why your site is not ranking.

Redirecting an Entire Site to a Page on Another Site?
So I have a site that I want to shut down http://vowrenewalsmaui.com and redirect to a dedicated Vow Renewals page I am making on this site here: https://simplemauiwedding.net. My main question is: I don't want to lose all the authority of the pages and if I just redirect the site using my domain registrar's 301 redirect it will only redirect the main URL not all of the supporting pages, to my knowledge. How do I not lose all the authority of the supporting pages and still shut down the site and close down my site builder? I know if I leave the site up I can redirect all of the individual pages to corresponding pages on the other site, but I want to be done with it. Just trying to figure out if there is a better way than I know of. The domain is hosted through GoDaddy.

New Domain, No 301 Possible - Any Advice
A client of mine lost their domain when an ex business partner sold it out from under them. They've filed with WIPO, but in the meantime we're trying to figure out how to help them out. They had two really excellent links - one from the NY Times and one from a .edu website. I'm going to reach out to the authors of those articles (the articles are pretty old, so I doubt they'll change the links), but does anyone have any advice on how to let search engines know the new domain replaces the old without having the ability to do redirects? The content on the site is exactly the same - we were able to get the files over, happily. I've re-submitted the site for indexing, changed the domain links in Moz Local, changed in Analytics, and on all their social sites. Is there anything I'm not thinking of that can be done to let Google know that this new domain replaces the old? Thank you!

How Can I Redirect an Old Domain to Our New Domain in .htaccess?
There is an old version of http://chesapeakeregional.com still floating around the web here: http://www.dev3.com.php53-24.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/component/content/category/20-our-services. Various iterations of this domain pop up when I do certain site:searches and for some queries as well (such as "Diagnostic Center of Chesapeake"). About 3 months ago the websitetestlink site had files and a fully functional navigation but now it mostly returns 404 or 500 errors. I'd like to redirect the site to our newer site, but don't believe I can do that in chesapeakeregional.com's .htaccess file. Is that so and would I need access to the websitetestlink .htaccess to forward the domain? Note* I (nor anyone else in our organization) has the login for the old site. The new site went live about 9 months before I arrived at the organization and I've been slowly putting the pieces together since arriving.

My direct traffic went up and my organic traffic went down. Help!
So on Oct. 21, our direct traffic increased 3x and our organic traffic decreased 3x. And it has been that way ever since. Almost like they flip flopped. Additionally, that was the same day I started retargeting to our site. I have tagged all the links from the ads and they're being counted as google paid clicks in GA. And our accounts are linked. I am just dumbfounded as to how this could happen.

Is it posible to improve site rankings working only with an other site?
Hi everyone, i´ll try to explain a situation is happening to me, i´m goint to try to explain the case (im writing the sites without links for explication purposes. Site 1: Adventurerooms Site 2: Adventureroomsmallorca Site 3: Adventureroomsmadrid (the new site) What happen is that at first there was only Adventurerooms and Adventureroomsmallorca, Adventurerooms was for Madrid and linked to the one in Mallorca too, was kind of giving the information for Madrid but in first page split with a link to Mallorca. In a new strategy we create Adventureroomsmadrid for Madrid, and leave Adventurerooms for Spain (with links to Adventureroomsmadrid and Adventureroomsmallorca. We redirect the info for Madrid in Adventurerooms to Adventureroomsmadrid with 301 redirections. We work during this 3 months in Adventureroomsmadrid making content in the blog, and improving (now Adventureroomsmadrid is Moz 15 (perhaps even more), and Adventurerooms is Moz 10. Surprising Adventurerooms is getting better in its search rankings, even when we took away content from it and even without working well. Adventureroomsmadrid is also improving but not as much as Adventurerooms (i know that is a new site, only 3 months), but Adventurerooms gets better results with no content and only DA of 10. I hope i´ve explain the case with my english so the question is: "Is it posible to improve site rankings working only with an other site?" Thanks in advance

Move webshop domain to the brand domain?
Hello, A client of mine has a brand with a website for over 10 years now.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Seeders
About 4 years ago the have opened a webshop on an other domain (like www.brandnamewebshop.com). At this moment the brand domain has a seomoz authority of 45.
The webshop domain authority is 25. The question:
Would it not be better to transfer the webshop to the brand domain because of the domain authority? If so, how can this be done the best way? With a 301?
I also think: what a loss of energy of building the authority on the other domain.
Is it an idea to use both domains for a webshop and rewrite the content? Or is there an other way to still make use of the built up domain authority? Would it really help the other domain when I make a 301 redirect (and make use of the pointing links to the webshop domain?). I hope somebody have some experience with this...
Looking forward to the possibilities! Gerjan0
