Photography Site ranking!
-
Hi
I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing)
Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too.
However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings.
So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea?
If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer"
Thanks

I see you point Egol and thanks for your input.

Without maybe using numbers after i.e Bride & Groom at The Alter, Bride & Groom At The Alter 2.
These people have names, were married on a specific date, the photo is at a specific venue, taken with a certain type of camera, could be that filters were used, who was photographer.
This photographer should know these two important facts....
- every picture tells a story
- every picture is worth a thousand words
If photographer wants to be lazy and not put text on the page then don't expect the benefit. There is a lot of search for people by name, lots of search for venues, lots of search for different types of stories.
Most people dont want to read the text especially when looking at a large number of images they just want to browse the images.
This is an assumption. I think that it is wrong. I bet lots of people would read lots of the words on these pages. Mothers, friends, and others are interested in these people.

Hi R.Kent
When you say put some of my favourite testimonials and link to my testimonial page can you let me know how this is improving my site? Is it SEO or is it in terms of user experience?
Regarding my award I understand Im just struggling on visualising how I woulc accomplish this whilst not making the site look crowded or unattractive any suugestions?
Thanks
-
Again thank you for your repsonse EGOL
The best way to think of my site is like a photo album and if you think most photo albums dont have any text in them at all.
Most people dont want to read the text especially when looking at a large number of images they just want to browse the images.
However I see the point you are making I guess I need to find the correct balance so I can get the most from my site.
I was thinking maybe to have a title section where I title the image however the problem I see is that many iamges are similar and it can be hard to differentiate them.
Without maybe using numbers after i.e Bride & Groom at The Alter, Bride & Groom At The Alter 2.
Do you think this would be a good idea? and maybe have the title tag for the page change according to the image too?
Thanks for the ideas.....I will try and make the blog better so people click back to my main site.
Thanks again!

Your blog already has sidebar navigation which offers links to your Home, About Me and Gallery pages. You can add Testimonials, Press, Pricing and Contact Me to that navigation and then you will be max'd out in terms of links.
You do have opportunities to improve your main site.
-
pick a couple of your favorite testimonials and add them to your home page, with a link to your testimonial page.
-
you won an award this year @ Miami Fashion Week, and have coverage in Vogue! Don't bury that info on your Press page. Highlight it on your home page with links to the Press page.
-
your many photographs in the gallery can be supplemented with a bit of text. You can talk about the black and white photographs you show and how b&w photos sometimes are preferable to color photos. For each picture tell a compelling story of how your photography enhances the wedding experience and helps couples remember the best day of their lives. Be creative!

Content is very limited on a gallery / images.
I would find a way to get more content. People want to know what they are looking at. The photographer can communicate type of camera, filters, image processing, etc.
there isn't a way of funneling the "link juice" from the blog to more appropiate pages of the site?
Add a ton of links to every blog page hitting other pages on the site that are outside of the blog. And, limit the number of links on all pages of the site that hit pages within the blog.
However, if this was my site I would not try to strangle the pagerank out of the blog. The blog is working so I would be feeding it and figuring out how to get traffic onto other pages of the site. This is a design problem where you need interesting thumbnails and descriptions that click to the main site.
Capitalize on the blog. I would put more effort into it if this was my site.

Thank you for your response

I am working on more links but basically you are saying there isn't a way of funneling the "link juice" from the blog to more appropiate pages of the site?

Google is being good to the blog.... you should be rejoicing! Yay!
I would get to work improving the other parts of the site if you want them to rank better. Improve content, sharpen optimization, get more links.

How is this site ranked so high on Google?
How on earth does "southeastasiatravelblog.com" rank No 3 on Google for "Asian travel blog"? It's just a collection of basically PR type travel articles. I have profiled its backlinks using Open Site Explorer and 71% of them are dead. The rest seem to be mostly "run of site" links from his other websites, which aren't particularly travel or Asia related. The highest PA for a live backlink to this site is a link from within his own website (PA 27, DA 15). Most of his backlink anchors are URLs and look fairly EMD to me. The site has few shares (6 FB shares, 7 FB likes, 1 Twitter share). So what makes it rank so highly for this phrase? My site I'm comparing against is "travelnasia.com" which is a fairly new domain with a DA 23, PA 31 and about the same amount of shares but far fewer backlinks at this stage because I recently changed URLs to shake off what might have been an algorithm penalty from Google. I am now receiving a growing level of Google search traffic again, but it's a long climb back. I'm looking at strategies, which is why I was checking out the site above.

Will feeding a blog through a widget onto a wix site help rankings?
I have a client I am writing blog content for, however his site was recently redesigned on wix html5. They offer no native blog. I have used a widget to embed blog from another site, however does this help seo in any way? When people share on social media, etc., it is linking the embedded page, not the clients site, right? So it would not be giving any link juice to site. It also doesn't help for organic search of content if it is embedded, is that right? I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to overcome this issue. Would creating a "faux" blog on the Wix site work (as in multiple pages that I would then categorize and link to each other to navigate like a blog myself)? Wix looks like it has page length maximums too, so I'm not sure how I would get around that. It is also clunky to share on social media without a "share" button for viewer, but perhaps I am mistaken. Is that a ridiculous solution? What have other people done to deal with this issue and get better rankings with Wix platform? Thanks in advance for any input! I'm feeling a little frustrated with what to do.

Backlinks to site.com (without www)
I have a website with 301 redirection from site.com to www.site.com. And we have built many backlinks to site.com (without www). Are these backlinks still give us juicy?

Rank dropped suddenly. Ways to bounce back?
So, like million threads out there I lost my rank for a particular page and is looking to bounce back. However there might be something different in my case, hence the thread. 1. The rank drop was an after effect of design change, where we merged two pages together. Page A - which was ranking for Keyword A and Page B which was ranking for Keyword B. So we merged it together in the sense that both had similar content and design except the meta tags and page title (I wasn't involved in this project so...) and Page B gets kicked out of Google web index. Page A still remains number 1 for Keyword A. 2. There was some shady link building contract that was implemented some 3 months back (again me not involved, I joined later) and there were an unnatural number of links created with a striking artificial anchor text pattern from low quality "built for link building" blogs. I presume this also affected page B. as this effort was done only for Page B and not A. So now, I managed to clear all the pages for duplicate content, implement a better page structure where I deleted out possible similar pages, redirected them (301) to main pages, and created a new page for Page B, like Page B1 with different content. Implemented a better internal linking profile too where terms related to Page B (Keyword B, Keyword B1, B2 etc) links to Page B. Its been two months now, and Page B ranks for Keyword B1 but not the original Keyword B. I suppose the "penalty" still remains in Google. Any clues how I can get around this? What I want to achieve is to get ranked for Keyword B for Page B, if not the first result, at least start all over from a lower rank but at least break out of the penalty.

Are nofollow links really not effecting rank?
I honestly find it hard to believe that nofollow links are not being considered for rank. Take for example Google finds 2,000,000 nofollow links for a site. Are they really going to ignore that?

Strengthening my personal coaching site
Hello, My domain for my personal coaching site is my name bobweikel(dot)com and I think this is weak for all of my keywords, but I'm sticking with it. What's some of the easiest way I could gain strength with national keywords so that people will pursue phone coaching with me, terms like nlp coach wealth and success coach wealth coach personal coach life coach I know that these are varying greatly in competitiveness. Thanks!
