Am I better off buying a .com with a stopword or a .net / .org without?
-
I'm trying to decide between three domains:
mydomain.com
domain.net
domain.org- What's the latest word on if there is an actual SEO impact to the stopword or whether it is just ignored entirely?
- Further, does anyone have any insight into whether any of these domains are seen as more credible (from a searcher's standpoint)?
Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, Alan. Have a great weekend.

As I've communicated in other Q&A posts here, and elsewhere, it comes down to the cumulative impact of the entire SEO factor evaluation process.
Any single factor is only as impactful as the entire picture paints. So if a site uses a .net or .org or .whatever domain, and/or the domain root is exact match, partial match or even gobbledegook, as long as the entire SEO picture is strong enough across other factors, the domain name and TLD can be whatever you want, within reason.
If it's an exact match root, regardless of TLD type, it will more likely be evaluated with close scrutiny to determine if its a spammy over-optimized site, given that Google has a specific Exact Match Domain algorithmic factor for spam. Yet plenty of sites have EMDs and do perfectly well in search because enough other signals are strong and authoritative.
Having said that, .org was originally meant to be for non-profits, so it's not ideally a best practice to use .org for a commercial business web site. And .net can be a challenge if there's already a .com with that same domain name due to user confusion and marketing challenges. So its ideal for a .com in those cases. Yet there's a similar issue when you're using a non-exact match domain name and an exact match domain name exists where the exact match version is strong in its overall SEO.
Bottom line - I always recommend that site owners not become completely lost in worrying as much about the domain naming factor because it can become paralyzing - and instead, to go with what you're comfortable with enough to move on. Then focus all your energy on making sure the overall SEO signal strength is strong regarding quality, uniqueness, authority, relevance and trust.

.land extension or .com extension? Please help!
hi, its me again. I bought 2 domains for my new site I want to build. My keyword is: "BabyHazelGames" babyhazelgames.land ( for me it sounded like "the land of baby hazel" etc ) PlayHazel.com ( short .com domain, still says what the sites about ) If u check first page for this keyword u see most of the sites are EMD-s or filler partial EMD ( on .com-s)Someone told me to buy a EMD since I fight with EMD-s on first page, and its the only way I have a chance! I bought The games license, theme license and all of these. That was alot of money, and I dont want to put all my money and work on the wrong domain name. Please help me decide between these 2; Thanks!

Authorship/publisher markup - Author photo vs. company logo
I'm trying to get a company logo to show up next to the search results for a search on [company name] AND a separate author photo to show next to the About page of the author of the same site for a search on [author name] There is author markup on the company's "About" page and Google's structured data testing tool shows that that page is correctly configured to show the author pic. There is publisher markup on the home page and the tool shows that the page is correctly configured to show the company logo. However, no company logo shows up in the search results for the [company name] search--just an author pic next to the "about" page for the [author name] search. if I add author markup to the homepage in addition to the publisher markup, I get the author pic showing up for both [author name] and [company name] searches. How is anyone making this work? Thanks.

Drop In Rankings / Traffic... Can you find any technical issues with my site?
I haven't spammed the engines, if anything I haven't done enough link building. So let me start here: I split my old domain www.STbands.com into two separate domains - www.Suddora.com and www.CustomOnIt.com . The main site now goes to Custom On It and each page directly 301 as it was relevant. I knew there was going to be a little blow back... The first month went fairly well but last week we noticed a dip in organic search traffic and sure enough some of our main keywords are now suffering. I am wondering if this is because we haven't been building enough links to the new domains or if our new eCommerce CMS (magento enterprise) has technical SEO issues that is giving Google trouble. Nothing on GWT looks terribly wrong, should i be searching for something specific? Anything helps at this point, we are in dire need of some direction on what could be wrong. Any suggestions?

Is it a good idea to participate in review / giveaway bloggers
Hi, I sell Gift Baskets for children and the best customers are Moms. Is it a good idea to participate in review / giveaway mom bloggers? The way it works I give the blogger a product to review. They write their true experience with the Gift Basket and they link to my site Then we do a few product giveaway to moms / (bloggers subscriber) once a month. Then moms will review the winning products. To participate in drawing moms will visit my site, follow my tweeter. Like or dislike me on Facebook……. For each action they do they will get one extra chance on drawing. In here I will get few links to different page of the site. Are these links are good links? I am not paying cash to buy the link. But I give them product to review and they get to keep it. Simply Sassy Media at http://simplysassymedia.com/ is a good example. they manage and connect me to a lot of the blogger sites.

Using Multiple Locations for Google Business/Maps
Hey MOZers, I currently work for a company with several other offices in other countries. Is it possible to set-up Google 'Business' and Google 'Maps' pages so when a user in a given country queries 'our business' on either Google 'Search' or Google 'Maps' they will receive the relevant business information for that country. For example, if an internet user in Canada enters a query for 'our business' in Canada (and we have an office in Canada) is there anyway to set up our Google Business page and Google Maps page so that user receives the contact information for the Canada office, rather than the US office? Conversely, if someone in the United States enters a search query for 'our business' is there a way to set it up so that the user receives our address in the states?

.com or .co.uk
We're lunching a new site and we've managed to secure desired domain name with .com and .co.uk The business in question is UK based and is catering for UK customers. We're not interested in foreign traffic. Should we go with .com or .co.uk? .com sounds much better and I think it will be easier to build a brand using .com

HubPages.com?
Hi All, Does anyone have any info/opinions/scoop on HubPages.com? A client is considering using the service and I don't know much about it. Having a hard time figuring out the SEO value it would provide. It doesn't nofollow the links you create, which is nice, but not sure if the pages you create on this site provide any real link juice. Client isn't interested really in generating revenue, but rather just wants to help increase exposure for his brand. He already has a blog going, so I'm trying to determine if putting in effort to creating articles on this site would be worthwhile, or if we should focus efforts more on other backlink methods, such as guest posting on blogs. Anyone have thoughts?

Do I need a .com as well?
Hello Mozers, I need your advice. I have a new client that runs a paralegal shop called - Christophers Legal Advice up here in Canada ChristophersLegal.com is taken but ChristophersLegal.ca is available Question: Should I register ChristophersLegalAdvice.com and ChristophersLegalAdvice.ca and just redirect the .com to .ca (since both .com and .ca are available) or should I risk it and opt for the shorter url and just register ChristophersLegal.ca I'm thinking that I might be able to get away with just ChristophersLegal.ca since the site will be used to attract new visitors via the search engines and social media. What do you guys think?
