Yelp to Show Evidence of "Review Fraud"
-
I just came across this post on SELand: http://searchengineland.com/yelp-adds-link-to-evidence-of-review-fraud-222740
Has anybody noticed this on their/a client's Yelp page? I'm curious to know what percentage of listings have received this type of flag.
What are your thoughts on this new implementation?

Hey James,
Thanks for starting this discussion. While I don't have stats on the number of businesses being 'caught', I do think it's a good thing that Yelp is willing to show proof to back up their decision to take action against a spamming business. I like transparency and some of the examples being featured in posts about this are totally outrageous. Business owners who want to fake reviews are starting out on such a wrong foot in rep management that an experience like being caught by Yelp could actually be doing these folks a huge favor. It may be one of those hard but vital lessons to learn.

In broad strokes, this is Yelp's attempt at transparency, probably the first step in a strategy to realign themselves with quality reviews. A closer look into the reasoning behind this and you start to see the writing on the walls.
This article goes into the specifics, and it was posted almost 3 years ago.
Yelp has always stated they take paid and fake reviews seriously, and now that they are making attempts to rectify their brand image, our best guess is... this is only the beginning.

We have not seen it on any of our clients' pages. We did successfully talk a prior client out of paying for 500 G+ reviews though.
At the same time, I'm not amazed that companies are doing this. There are entire TV shows not dedicated to putting Yelp reviews and restaurant owners in the same room to talk it out. Businesses know that 5* reviews make a difference and they're willing to do anything to look better online.
-
Wow! I haven't seen that before but it's interesting they'd take it that far.
A couple quick searches shows more of these than just the example:

They're taking it VERY seriously ... although my initial thought is "people still use Yelp?"

Why would the review count be different between the Ad and the Organic result?
A client inquired about this after finding that their review count was different on their Google Ad that appeared in the map pack compared to their organic result right below it. I am stumped so any thoughts or reasoning as to why this is the case would be appreciated. See attached screenshot! Lptujep

Any Success Getting Fake 5 Star Google My Business Reviews Removed From Competitors?
Hi, I am working on a competitor who is obviously building up fake reviews using a 3rd party service. I need to build more evidence. A majority of his reviews on Google My Business, they are done by reviewers with very few reviews (no profile pic), and that seem to review 3-4 companies in the Chicagoland area the exact same day. This happens again and again. It started about 1.5 years ago. Before that everything looks normal. Any idea how much proof I need to actually get those reviews and/or his company removed? I am working on getting access to a private group on Facebook where he talks about it. Thanks in advance!

Experience Getting Google Reviews Restored?
Does anyone have any experience or know anyone with experience getting google reviews restored? We have no technical issues with our Google business pages/locations, but for some reason, they deleted some of our recent reviews. These reviews were not at our location or review station or anything like that. A couple of the profiles were very new accounts, and a couple of the users posted reviews for a few locations, however, they were legitimate reviews that they did on their own. I was hoping someone had an idea of what to do to appeal to Google or if there was a form to fill out to get our reviews restored. Thanks, Ruben

Yelp hides my reviews
Hello, This is pretty frustrating. This is the third time Yelp has hidden a review for my business. I don't know why. I am trying to get lots of reviews on different platforms but I feel at the mercy of Yelp as they decide what to show and what not. I think it was triggered when I actually replied to the reviewer on Yelp. I should have done nothing I think. Any hints or reasons why this might be happening?

Review page set up
Hey Gang! So I have a client with multiple locations in different metros. I would like to set up a page in WordPress for each metro that the technician can give to the happy client so they can review us. I would like to have a link to my GMB, Yelp, Yellowpages, and whatever else I can grab. Is there a badass plugin for this or what would you guys do? Much love.

Local Reviews.
Hi I was wondering if someone can tell me if I understand this correctly or at least my observation has been right? Does Yelp pick up the reviews left of Google and post it on yelp, if you are using the same gmail to log in to both your yelp and google account?

Does advertising on Yelp help a business get more Yelp reviews?
I've gotten this question from a few clients. There seems to be a correlation in some cases between paying to advertise on Yelp, and the volume of reviews received. Of course, correlation does not necessarily equal causation. And I can attest to the fact that other clients who have at times advertised on Yelp did not even see a correlation. Has anyone else seen this correlation? And if so, can you speak to the possible causation or lack thereof?
