Ways to expand your marketing area
-
I have a local business and put additional city names (7 of them) into the main title page along with the biz description in order to expand into these areas. I included these same cities on 3 other pages in the site as well, along with the custom descriptions for these pages. Is this overuse of city names in title pages? Will it negatively affect my rankings? What are the best ways to expand your marketing territory for a local biz?
Thanks for any and all responses.

Hi there
This could potentially be overoptimization of local SEO, I would be very careful, especially if the content on these pages are closely related with the names being switched out.
You can look into Google My Business Service-area businesses, as well as citations through services like Moz Local and Whitespark.
I would instead have an "Areas We Serve"-esque page that lists areas and any relevant contact information for those areas.
I highly recommend reviewing this piece from Moz called Get Your Multi-Location Business Ranking in Multiple Cities With One Domain, which says "Putting ANY Geo, City information in your home page title tags." is a No-No.
Lots of great tips there - hope it helps! Good luck!

Multiple service area pages that rank well. However the primary keyword page tends to bounce around between the pages. How can I stabalise the ranking to the primary page
We have multiple service area pages attached to the primary keyword for the site which arent in the navigation and we have the primary page which is in the navigation. Currently Google is choosing different service area pages to rank for the primary keyword so the rankings bounce around a lot for the keyword when it doesn't have a service area target in it. Eg work shirts vs work shirts brisbane.

Expanding to Other Geo Locations
Our company originally started in one city, now it is in multiple and the city we started in is actually now less important to our business than some of the new cities. We've of course have Google Places for Business listings for all our cities and are listed in the other prominent directories for each City (Bing Places, Manta, Superpages, etc etc) We have created once city page for each city in our domain. All this has improved our Local SERPs for those cities but they pale in comparison to our dominance in the city we started out in. We did have the first city in our home page title, we took that out. The obvious problem is from an SEO standpoint your home page is your "strongest" page but how do you make your home page rank top for multiple location intent searches: "{city} {target keyword}" ? The 3-pack is KEY. For example, for one city we make it into the local 3-pack but we are not in the organic SERPs on page 1 outside of the 3-pack. As far as I can tell the major factor in 3-pack ranking is of course proximity of business to the user's location or user's location intent. I would say followed by the natural ranking factors (or at least a large subset of them) that Google uses for its normal organic rankings, followed by Google Places reviews. You would think the Google places reviews really make a difference, but not as much as you think. So how do you dominate local searches in different cities when competing against local-only companies? My only guess is you need to create as much content as possible. You don't want to make micro sites I think as you lose all the link juice going to your main site. But how much content can one make that isn't duplicative. You can describe the same products and services over and over for each city but that's not useful nor wise. I guess you could do some re-writing. But other than a different address, phone, and staff members, if your service is identical for each city it doesn't leave a lot of room for useful content creation to improve local search SERPS. I guess this begs the overall question, can a multi-city company ever dominate local SERPS when the search has a location intent (city name in the search) it there is even just a couple competing local companies doing some SEO work. it seems it is an extreme uphill battle if not next to impossible. (Never say never.)

How to approach SEO for a business with three distinct focus areas
I have a client who has asked for the development and optimisation of three websites for a business located at one address. They offer specialised skin care, have a make-up artistry division and also a luxury portraiture/photographic service offered to clients. I have suggested one website, based on all I have read in this community (Possum etc.). Their concern is that they will seem like a "master of none" and envision three sites interlinked. Before I push back and categorically say that this is a poor idea, I wanted to gain some insight from those of you who may have dealt with this scenario before. I need to explain how one domain can be structured to present all three these areas as distinct, given that the home page will speak to all three. Any ideas regarding site structure and optimisation strategy would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Looking For A Chicago Marketing Agency
Hi guys, I am looking for a trusted, digital marketing company specializing in local search services and SEO. I would prefer to be from around Chicago due to the type of business we are in, limousine business, but ultimately, I would be willing to try someone from a different city but it needs to have experience in this type of business. If you know someone, please send me a private message and I will give you more info. I am not looking for a 2-3 man company, we are past that stage. I know about Moz's recommended companies, none of them are from Chicago, bummer. Thanks!

What is the best way for a UK company to source SEO Support to boost SERPS in USA Google?
We are a niche web retailer with a world leading product and as such are probably the best option for USA customers (even though we are based in the UK) up to 18 months ago google agreed and placed us high for USA searches and we had good business as a result however since penguin (or around that time anyways) google increased our SERPS for more local markets (UK and EUROPE) and decreased our ranks for USA with a consequent reduction in our USA sales We want to improve rank again in USA (and Canada and Australia and Russia) but need specialist help What's the best way to source that? (short of someone saying they know exactly how to do that) ant recommendation most gratefully received Tom
