Wordpress Old Articles date - Update or Not
-
Hey there!
Been reading around and I believe that there isn't a perfect answer to this question, but I surely want to know your opinion.
It's a fact that google likes new content but also updated content, so whats your position concerning the wordpress articles. Meaning, when I decide to update articles from 2011 on its content, should I also update the date?
If I make a search and an article from 2011 will be shown, its unlikely that I will click on it...
So that you can understand my point.

Maybe I will leave the date as it was then...
Based on minimal changes, I would do this. A minimal update doesn't need to sit in the background though. Remember to get busy and let everyone know when you update something

Yes, my only point is to tell user that it was updated and not being penalized by google.
Sometimes the changes are minimal, like in 2011 we recommended X and Y products and now we recommend the Z product because X and Y were discontinued.
Maybe I will leave the date as it was then...

I would be tempted to add an 'updated' date and leave the original posted date in place. This way you satisfy both readers and Google.
The only time I would update the actual posted date, is if the article was very significantly different - to the point it wasn't that recognisable as what it used to be.
Get busy sharing the post socially again and make sure you advise people that it has been updated to reflect new data.

If you do this - do it for the reader, not Google.
If the article has been refreshed with some great value and you think your audience would benefit from seeing it again, then I would update the date. However, if you're trying to game Google by making out that the content/URL is new and fresh (by trying to take advantage of its freshness algorithm), not only would that be frowned upon, but I think I'm right in saying Google has clamped down on that effectiveness quite a lot since 2013.

Question About Embargo'd Dates and SEO Timeliness
Hello, this is a very specific SEO issue my company and I often have so we want to get a definitive answer for it. Let's say we're writing a guide about a product. Would we be better off releasing that guide as soon as we can (the information embargo date) or is it better to post that guide on the day the product officially releases for the public? We really don't know the answer here, because while we understand being first is very important, we wonder if timeliness with when people are searching for the information matters more. Thanks for all the help, Moz community!

Images for WordPress
I'd be grateful for any advice regarding sourcing, adding & attributing images/photos for my WordPress blog. Budget is tight so have to rule out paid stock libraries, but I heard that Flickr images can be used under Creative Commons providing they are correctly attributed. eg. http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/business-of-it/2011/04/07/mps-criticise-bbc-siemens-38m-contract-failure-40092428/ eg 2. http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/networking/2011/10/05/bt-lines-up-300mbps-broadband-launch-40094109/ Example 1 does not seem to link back but example 2 does. Are there any rules on this? I have looked at some plugins: Insights, iFlickr, WP Flickr Manager, Photo Dropper. Looking to save time by streamlining the process of adding images, resizing and attributing. Many thanks.

Duplicate Content on WordPress Blogs?
We are getting ready to add a WordPress blog to our established website. Our plans are to place it in a subfolder on our website to maximize rank. My question is...Do we need to utilize a Meta Robots WordPress plugin by Yoast or similar so that noindex, follow robots meta tags will prevent search engine indexing of search result pages, subpages and category archives? We want to avoid the dreaded Duplicate Content Error and penalty. Any other great SEO WordPress plugins? Thank you for your time. Brian
